About Ye Olde Fleece Inn
We have a passion for what we put on your plate and are delighted to introduce a fresh new approach to pub food at the Fleece.
Our investment in a completely new state-of-the-art kitchen is complemented by the appointment of highly acclaimed Head Chef James Harvey and his personally hand-picked team.
The menu will be a moveable feast featuring the best seasonal produce sourced from suppliers across the region, including Lakes Speciality Foods, McClures, Wellocks and Cartmel Valley Game.
We’ll feature a range of familiar pub classics, each recreated and cooked with the same care and attention to detail as everything else we do at Ye Olde Fleece Inn.
And to slake your thirst, we offer a great selection of British real ales and craft beers from Europe and the USA, plus an extensive wine list, spirits, specialist gins and locally-themed cocktails.
My wife and I had an excellent evening meal midweek, we just loved the place the food and the best service we have had in a long time. We are already planning a return trip to Kendal and the main reason is to return to the Fleece, a big thank you to all the staff we got to meet.
Fantastic food and service in a beautiful pub!
Prettiest pub we've ever visited, great all round
Such a lovely atmosphere as soon as you walk in. The staff are helpful and friendly. It's a beautiful quirky building with that feels both old and new at the same time. We had an afternoon tea, and it was the best afternoon tea that I have ever had. I can't wait to return.
Waited for over an hour for our dinner Booked for 645 but food arrived 8pm
Very disappointed with our recent visit, booked for 10 and when we arrived we were given upstairs seating area that had no table that would accommodate the entire family. Food menu was limited, and the ham on both salad and sandwich was a ridiculously small portion and full of bones! But as there is no tab system it was all fully paid for even though we complained. Finally, there was no table service meaning we had to run up and down to the bar with large food and drinks orders each time we wanted something. We won't come back for a meal again in a hurry.
I called the pub on 5th July at 12.15pm to book a table so my Mum and I could enjoy afternoon tea on Weds 10th July at 1pm. The man I spoke to in the phone informed me that afternoon tea doesn’t usually start until 2pm but said he would just check with the chef and see if 1pm today be okay instead. While on the line, I heard the man ask the chef if it would be okay to do afternoon tea for us at 1pm and I heard the chef say yes it would be fine. I let the man know that my mum was a vegetarian and he said he would make a note of it and they could also accommodate us on the day. Looking forward to it, my mum and I arrived today and were seated. The polite girl that served us put our order through of afternoon tea and went to make our selected teas. Shortly after, the poor girl returned to the table very apologetic and embarrassed and said that the chef had ‘just had a go at her for putting afternoon tea through as it doesn’t start until 2pm”. I explained that I had booked on the phone and been assured that 1pm would be fine. She asked me who I had spoken to, which of course I didn’t know as why would I? I just trusted that it was all booked. She offered us the other menu but we decided to leave as we were very disappointed and I was actually quite cross that I had been told it would be fine and was now expected to sit at the table for an hour until the chef was ready. It was all very bizarre and I felt really sorry for this lovely girl. As we walked out, other senior members of staff that were at the bar didn’t apologise or even acknowledge us, and the poor girl said to them while embarrassingly smiling at us “here are the two teas that I made incase anybody wants them”. It was a total shambles and they acted like they weren’t interested in our custom anyway. My suggestion would be that the members of the team need to discuss arrangements made with customers so that this situation does not arise again- if the original man/chef I spoke to/heard on the phone had said there and then that it was not on until 2pm, we would have come at 2pm! Anyway, it was my birthday so we left and went to another establishment and enjoyed a delicious meal there instead to celebrate. A huge disappointment.
Lovely meal, quiet (but Tuesday night), friendly service
The service was very professional The sea bass was top class. Don't fire the chef Greatly enjoyed the jazz. I'm a jazz fan. Please keep it going
I had a Sunday roast with a bottle of Rioja white wine and thoroughly enjoyed both.
