The food was very good but the service was very poor and the staff were poorly dressed
Excellent choice and quality of food and wine. Ambiance is also very nice. Staff can do better, training on how to provide adequate service is required
We were most impressed by the helpfulness and pleasant manner of all the staff, especially the young man who served us afternoon tea.
Service was very attentive, possible a little too much! I appreciate this is a personal thing. The food was very nice apart from my lamb rump which was a little chewy in part and served a bit too "rare" for my liking. I like lamb pink, but this almost raw in the centre.
Had a wonderful experience with our afternoon tea a few days ago. We were made very welcome and the food were excellent -a fabulous way of celebrating a friend's recent retirement. The Georgian suite has a great ambience and magnificent views too of the beautiful countryside from where we were seated. We'll definitely be returning soon!
The Afternoon tea sandwich’s were very simple finger sandwiches, The scones were delicious as the rest of the cakes. I had to ask for a replacement teapot the spout was damaged .Most of the cutlery could have done with a good clean. Service was very good,I wouldn’t return for Afternoon tea even though it was a 2 for 1 deal.I think a little more attention to detail would not go a miss .Even the table displays had smear marks all over them quiet surprised to see that. We haven’t dined at the restaurant so cannot comment on that but maybe it will be a better experience.
A huge disappointment. Brought my husband for a birthday celebration & have been apologising ever since.! We had savoury tea - no choice of tea offered, no accompanying hot water. No description of what was being served. Sausage roll lacked seasoning & was tastless so couldn't tell what meat it was.; grilled chicken was burnt, rarebit was a disgusting mustard mousse, salmon bagel was fine. Scones were undercooked & tasteless, toasted teacake had no colour & in effect was dried out fruit bread. Biscuit was ok & apple tartlet very good. We were not offered clean plate or knives for the transition from savouries to scones etc. I went looking for staff to request them but could find none & ended up taking them from another table. We had to leave a lot of what was served. I made my feelings known to the receptionist & as we left the hotel another guest came after me to say she had had a similar experience. Lesson to be learnt Wood Hall. I shall not be returning.
Enjoyed a relaxed afternoon tea in the Georgian dining room. Service was excellent, very quick and staff were really attentive. Only downside came when I had to pay but only a minor and does not spoil anything, but could be improved on a little? I was paying cash but the dining staff said I had to pay at reception, went to reception who said they had no facility for that and had to pay in the dining room. Went back in the dining room to a confused waitress who called for help from a colleague but I was just left standing wondering what to do at this point, the waitress walked off to reception not really telling me anything but i followed and she appeared to be sorting it out. I left the cash with the waitress after a bit of a kerfuffle
sandwiches slightly disappointing especially the bread of gluten free ones.
Delicious afternoon tea in beautiful surroundings.
Mixup with table despite a morning telephone call requesting a particular table in drawing room. Arriving on a cold and wet afternoon it would have been nice to be greeted by a welcoming fire, or some form of heating. Unfortunately this was not the case and my wife spent the duration of the Afternoon Tea with her jacket on. The finger sandwiches, scones, assortment of cakes and drinks however, were of a very high quality.
Lovely afternoon tea in splendid surroundings
Excellent attentive service from Lucy and her colleague when we visited for celebratory champagne afternoon tea yesterday. Scone selection was my favourite.
Lovely afternoon tea, sandwiches, scones and cakes were delicious
Beautiful location, attentive staff and gorgeous food.
My prior visits to Wood Hall for drinks and food in the bar have been most enjoyable. But this review is about my 2for1 afternoon tea experience in the Drawing Room on 24/09/19. It did not meet expectations and was very disappointing. Reasons: unwelcoming reception; absence of staff; lack of convivial atmosphere; slow and poor food service; poor food presentation; poor quality and tasteless sandwiches; and "heavy" scones. Champagne was the only good thing. Definitely would not recommend Wood Hall for afternoon tea based upon this experience.
Food was delicious there was nothing left on the plates when we finished! Portion size was just right and made to a high standard. Service staff were very polite and attentive.
The manager on shift at the time of our afternoon tea could not of been more friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much!
Lovely hotel and stay
I had a lovely afternoon with a friend having afternoon tea. We loved the variety of food on offer.
This was our third visit this year. Great food and service.
I have to say I was very disappointed with our experience on tuesday. The greeting was lovely from the ladies on the reception desk but once in the dining room it seemed that another function took priority and we were forgotten about. The food was ok but not of the same standard as similarly priced afternoon teas. Everything had to be asked for- this is missing a trick as we would have had champagne had we have been offered but the waiter was barely around. Twice I had to actually go find a waiter to enquire about ordered items and order more tea/coffee. It took 20 minutes to receive tea and coffee at one stage despite speaking directly to the manager regarding the slow service. Staff were impolite at times, abruptly interrupting conversation to ask (shouting over from the door) if we required anything further instead of approaching the table and enquiring, turning away mid order and subsequently not delivering the correct items. also with regards to the service- hot drinks should never ever be served over the top of diners, especially not children. I was informed by a member of staff that they were short staffed due to budget cuts - this is neither my concern nor need to know and no excuse as we were the only people in the dining area for the duration of our tea. On receiving the bill it was incorrect given I had 2 children dining and the discretionary 10% service charge had been added. Given the issues with poor service I felt that this should not be awarded automatically.
Great venue, beautiful views, excellent food and service
Lovely afternoon with my mum. The lemon meringue pie was absolutely devine. Everything we were served was delicious.
Really enjoyed the afternoon tea. Loved the surroundings and loved the Eton mess milkshake ! Loved the little scones as well. Staff friendly and helpful. Best afternoon tea I have ever had and good value for money.
