Set in the historic courtyard of the hotel, where in the 1780’s the first mail coaches arrived from London, the 2 AA Rosette WinePress Restaurant is one of Norwich’s finest dining establishments, offering modern cuisine to today’s discerning diner. Head Chef, Magic, semi finalist in this years Chef of the Year competition, and his Brigade, produce seasonal menus which reflect the best local produce available.
Excellent food and great service. The staff worked well with the covid restrictions and although a bit odd no real issues. Would definitely recommend.
First night open following lockdown so inevitably was very quiet. We noted a changed and limited menu. Service was good albeit no atmosphere.
Due to the current circumstances we had an Afternoon Tea Takeaway for Mother’s Day. It was lovely food and very kind of them to give complimentary flowers! Thank you so much
The food was exceptional, the taste , the presentation and even the cost. The winepress has a great selection of wines to choose from. And basic spirits, my only suggestion is to invest in more of the basic spirits gin, vodka and whisky. The service was also to high standard, asking if we required anything. Overall the food, atmosphere and cost exceeded expectations. We loved it, and will definitely go back.
The food was amazing I gave atmosphere only 3 stars but that was because there were only a few diners due to the corona virus and I’m sure normally it would score more
Excellent afternoon tea , thank you.
Lovely sunday lunch.
The whole experience was excellent, great setting, friendly staff, some of the sandwiches were starting to go hard apart from that it was very nice
Admittedly we made a last minute reservation, however, the afternoon tea was fairly awful. The cheese scones were so tough we could not manage to eat them, the cakes were tiny which was fine, but again, they were so tough we could not slice them with the fork or manage to swallow them. We were told it was unlimited drinks, but there was no one available to ask for a top up. One poor customer was wandering around with her cup for approx 10 minutes trying to find a member of staff. I tried to tell the waiter when we were paying but he just spoke over the top of me expecting that we had had a lovely time. We had not, but we felt so deflated we just wanted to leave. On the way out we did think we would explain to reception, but again, there was nobody there. What was supposed to be a last minute celebration became a real let down. What a shame. Also, to top it off, one of my vegetarian sandwiches had coronation chicken sauce on it as if it had been sliced with the same knife as the meat sandwiches. Safe to say we felt tremendously disappointed and will not be recommending to friends.
Great food, really can’t fault it. However, £60 p/head was a bit dear for Norwich - I’ve had food of a similar calibre in both London and Manchester for less.
Staff very friendly and professional
The food was delicious. Venison was cooked perfectly. Service was a little slow but forgiven as food so good. Perhaps some side dishes of vegetables would be nice.
We sat in the snug which was very cosy. A lovely place to celebrate with friends.
Too many cooking techniques in each course sometimes less is more. The flavours didn't always go for example I had the scallop for starter the waiter poured over the broth without checking with me which resulted in the Yuzu gel and pear ensemble being washed away and the crab wonton being slimey. I couldn't see any benefit it didn't even add an umami flavour. The dish would be better without the broth with the crab in a fried wonton wrapper to give texture. The pickled veg added nothing to the pork which had a strange bitter aftertaste. The Millefleur didn't need the cubes of jelly they had too much gelatine and no flavour. The petit fours arrived with the coffee the chocolate truffle was lovely but again two other items which contained too much gelatine not pleasant. I think you would benefit from some staff tasting the food. It was also odd that with exception of the lovely amuse bouché none of the food had any smell when it arrived. When I completed my sensory taste training we were taught about the sense of smell as being part of the tasting. This is the first time I have eaten somewhere I didn't have that. You could see the wonderful techniques used but you do not need to use all of them in each course. I came away feeling disappointed. Also it was valentine's night where was the mood music?
Wonderful afternoon tea. Would thoroughly recommend.
Excellent food served in historic and atmospheric surroundings
We had lovely evening, the food was fabulous and the staff lovely. The service was a little slow, maybe not enough staff on duty? But we would go again.
Really enjoyable afternoon tea. Excellent selection of sandwiches, savouries and cakes/desserts. Great decor and really good service.
It’s always an experience eating at the winepress, The passion and attention to detail is clearly Evident. The presentation and flavours, an art form many do not live up too. It was great to meet Magic this time and to hear what his future plans are. Easily our first choice for a meal as a couple or with friends when choosing where to eat. Keep up the great work and look forward to our next visit
We had a wonderful evening at the Winepress. The food and service were fantastic. The food was delicious.
I have never had a bad meal here. Good food, service and environment.
After booking online and not getting a confirmation email I then had to telephone the hotel to ask if they had received my order. An apology was given and we were accommodated but it negates the option of booking online.
Excellent service from the waitress
Dawn was amazing and just made it it so lovely for my sisters 40th birthday x
My friend and I had a wonderful relaxed time at the Winepress. Afternoon tea and service was excellent. First class place to visit. Thank you.
