About Wine House 1821
Designed by award winning Italian architect Claudio Silvestri, The Wine House 1821 incorporates the chic and modern twists that make Italy famous.
The wine Bar with its large picture windows dominates the ground floor of the building presenting dramatic views of the bustling St James's Quarter.
Offering over 100 wines expertly presented by our staff and a variety of classic and modern cocktails, the Wine Bar is the perfect place to relax and catch up with friends over some great wines and drinks or sampling some of our fantastic home made cecchini or tapas in the true Italian tradition of the aperitivo!
Ask your servers for for the best wine combinations or indulge in our bespoke wine, and sparkling tastings and indulge in taking your favourite selection home with you thanks to our take away license.
Great as a bar - good selection of wines, barman very welcoming. The roasts were OK, although skimpy serving for six people and 'sauteed vegetables' was just red pepper. The waiter told us this was the traditional accompaniment to roast lamb and beef in Italy, rather than the honest answer - there were no other vegetables available. The waiter was not sure what was available for dessert and changed the selection several times before advising us that a chocolate and cherry cake was suddenly available, he had tried it and it was delicious. It was actually dry and stale - and the restaurant ran out of cream, so there was very little cream to compensate for the dryness (there is a supermarket next door!). The worst part of the meal was 'cheese and crackers'. Good selection of cheese, no crackers but a few bread sticks, cold meats and raw bacon!! 'the chef did this specially for you'. We were charged £20 for something that essentially we didn't order, but the chef wanted to get rid of. It is a pity because it is a nice bar, but that is six customers who won't be back for food. Edinburgh has too many good Italian restaurants to waste time and money on 'let's use up what we've got left and kid them it is Italian'
Excellent afternoon tea which was a bit out of the ordinary from the usual dainty crustless sandwiches, much more filling and satisfying. The staff were very attentive and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this little hidden gem right in the centre of Edinburgh just across from the Omni. The only downside was the cost of extra prosecco which was quite hefty or else it would have been a 5 star review all round - the value for money score was for the original afternoon tea deal.
Wonderful xmas night out. Cosy gin bar downstairs. Alessandro is the best host. Elaine
Fantabulous food very well presented
Had a fabulous time. All of our party were very impressed by the venue, the large selection of wines available and the service we received. We done the wine tasting and although many of our party had been to wine tastings previously they rated this far superior based on the knowledge showed by Sandro and also the very professional and fun manner in which it was delivered.
Great service, beautiful food at great prices
Excellent afternoon tea - amazing baking and prosecco superb.
