About Wine Chambers Restaurant
Wine Chambers Restaurant is situated in the historic General Buildings at 29-33 Shortland Street in Auckland’s CBD.
The building was originally built to house Yorkshire General Insurance in 1928. It was famed for its use of palatial and local marble and bronze, being the first centrally heated building in the country.
These factors are very much still in evidence today, with Wine Chambers offering you an elegant and grand setting for your special event.
Wine Chambers Cuisine is modern European with Kiwi influence. Our menu changes constantly with the seasons and we source only the finest ingredients; never compromising on quality.
The menu is designed to suit a variety of tastes.
The menu has something for everyone. We also have set menus available for groups over 10 people, either in one of our private rooms, or in the main body of the restaurant.
Wine Chambers has an extensive wine list.
We carry 70% New Zealand / Australian Wines including an extensive range of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone Styles. The other 30% is made up of French, Spanish & Italian wines which all compliment the menu superbly.
We came here after a short game of tennis and appreciated how the FOH staff didn't discriminate on our attire, as we weren't exactly formally dressed. We were promptly seated and later provided some water. We found the service was a little slower than we would have liked, however... as it took a while for them to come around to present food menus and see if we were ready to take our orders. Although, we kept ourselves entertained in the mean time. The guy serving us seemed friendly and the atmosphere was slightly different to other places I've dined in. It was a historic building and seemed to be popular for business people. The food did take a little while to come out but once it did it tasted delicious! Slightly smaller portions than I would've liked, but I guess it was fine dining after all. Thanks to first table we were able to sample their menu at a great savings. My other two colleagues were happy with their mains and thus another new place we tried in auckland. Thank you for having us!
How this can be called fine dining in the entertainment book is unreal. The main course(duck breast) and vegetables were almost cold, when bought to our table. The wine steward was dressed in faded jeans and trainers. The closest we got to fine dining was the view out the window of the O'Connell St Bistro over the road. We will never be going back.
Thank you for the lovely food!
Really enjoyable food thank you! It took a bit longer to come than we had expected but was delicious
We had the privilege of having our Xmas function at Wine Chambers last week Friday and were totally blown away by the wonderful service and treatment received by all the staff. A huge thank you to Anjali, Jeff, Curran and Michelle. Food was excellent (well done to the chef), venue was awesome and staff were exceptional. Well done to all involved, we will definitely be back!!!
We were a group of 16 & seated in the private dining area. Unfortunately the service was very slow and we had to wait an hour for our entrees to be served. The pre-ordered wines were not on the table when we sat down and people had to wait 20mins before they were served drinks. Drinks should have been served before meal orders were taken. Overall a really disappointing experience and unfortunately we wont be returning which is a shame as the restaurant setting is beautiful.
Sadly this was a very bad experience for our teams end of year Christmas Lunch. We were a table of 5, the only guests dining and the service was most disappointing. Our waiter seemed either uninterested or just had no experience in this feild of work and really needs some training. Our drinks were not topped up, I had to physically get up and go find him to request to order more wine and get us some salt & pepper for our table, just very basic stuff. Our meals took a long time to come out. We were there for 2 very long hours! The food was quite tasty but in all seriousness we did wonder if there were hidden cameras and we were part of a prank or the next episode of NZ's Funniest Home Videos. Will not be returning or recommending. Perhaps it has just changed hands because we had heard good things previously.
The food was AHmazing. A wee hiccup with our pork belly was swiftly remedied with the provision of a mini recreation of the dish including the previously missing crackle and it was delicious. Can't go past their chocolate mousse either for dessert :) Super attentive and helpful staff, even offering to cook food well before our booking time while we had a few pre-dinner drinks.
We had a great evening which everyone have said they’ll remember.
A terrific venue for a working lunch. Intimate enough (with sufficient spacing between tables for privacy) without denting the atmosphere of being in great CBD restaurant. Menu for lunch was appropriate re choice. The food was up to the expected high standard as was the wine list. Recommended.
Great space and delicious food
I love Wine Chambers, the food is great, the building is fabulous, and the calibre of wines by the glass is excellent. I will be back.
Food is probably one of the best I have had!
Great service, relaxed ambience & fantastic food
We had a fantastic evening dinning at this restaurant. The food was lovely, the atmosphere was superb and with over 60 people in our party the service was fantastic! Thanks again for a great evening!
Food was great. First 2 wine selections were not available. It was a very quiet Monday night and the service was adequate although we had to wait after our main, for the staff to complete their meal before they came back to check on whether we needed anything else.
Food was good, service too, but the menu was limited and the wine list much shorter than one might expect from the website and the name.
Wonderful service. Great food. However it felt very quiet for a Saturday night.
A bit empty, but then it was 4.15pm. Excellent service and the wines well priced
First time at the restaurant... we were greeted by the manager who took a very keen interest in our wellbeing at the restaurant. Very nice experience for us. Looking forward to our next dining out night there.
Relaxing atmosphere, friendly host and fantastic service.
