About Wine Chambers Restaurant
Wine Chambers Restaurant is situated in the historic General Buildings at 29-33 Shortland Street in Auckland’s CBD.
The building was originally built to house Yorkshire General Insurance in 1928. It was famed for its use of palatial and local marble and bronze, being the first centrally heated building in the country.
These factors are very much still in evidence today, with Wine Chambers offering you an elegant and grand setting for your special event.
Wine Chambers Cuisine is modern European with Kiwi influence. Our menu changes constantly with the seasons and we source only the finest ingredients; never compromising on quality.
The menu is designed to suit a variety of tastes.
The menu has something for everyone. We also have set menus available for groups over 10 people, either in one of our private rooms, or in the main body of the restaurant.
Wine Chambers has an extensive wine list.
We carry 70% New Zealand / Australian Wines including an extensive range of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone Styles. The other 30% is made up of French, Spanish & Italian wines which all compliment the menu superbly.
I love Wine Chambers, the food is great, the building is fabulous, and the calibre of wines by the glass is excellent. I will be back.
Food is probably one of the best I have had!
Great service, relaxed ambience & fantastic food
We had a fantastic evening dinning at this restaurant. The food was lovely, the atmosphere was superb and with over 60 people in our party the service was fantastic! Thanks again for a great evening!
Food was great. First 2 wine selections were not available. It was a very quiet Monday night and the service was adequate although we had to wait after our main, for the staff to complete their meal before they came back to check on whether we needed anything else.
Food was good, service too, but the menu was limited and the wine list much shorter than one might expect from the website and the name.
Wonderful service. Great food. However it felt very quiet for a Saturday night.
A bit empty, but then it was 4.15pm. Excellent service and the wines well priced
First time at the restaurant... we were greeted by the manager who took a very keen interest in our wellbeing at the restaurant. Very nice experience for us. Looking forward to our next dining out night there.
Relaxing atmosphere, friendly host and fantastic service.

great meal, we'll be back
Great food and excellent service
Once again we had a beautiful meal and a wonderful experience.
Delightful restaurant for a private room group dinner for 11. It is a beautiful space you have there.
Had a wonderful dining experience with 11 friends in the private dining room. Excellent!
Had a really good time! The private room was slightly too big for the 30 people we had invited, but the staff were happy to re-shape the room to make it look not so big. I think the room would be perfect for 40-50 people. Everything was really good and professional. I think in hindsight, I would have preferred to pre-pay for the food we had pre-ordered but it was nice that they were happy to let us pay at the end of the night. I organised this from overseas by email and they made the process of booking and ordering etc very easy. If I had another event I would come here (as long as I had a few more people)
Very pleasant evening, food was delicious and portion sizes were spot on. Attentive wait staff too.
Excellent dining out experience
Amazing food. We had the set menu which was great value for money. Service was excellent.
Was a great night, thank you for hosting my birthday evening.
The first time here. The service was great, however the restaurant was cold and the food was ok but I was expecting more.
Excellent service. Great food!
I visited the Wine Chambers on a Friday night with my partner for our anniversary. We had purchased a grabone voucher, and I had checked reviews were good on trip advisor beforehand. When we arrived the restaurant was clean and well presented, however we were the only customers there. This meant that there was no atmosphere at all to speak of. We were seated next to a window but as they were open we became cold very quickly as it was winter still. The waitress was lovely, very polite and helpful. She moved us to a different table and got us a little heater from the back. It actually didn’t do much to warm us but the thought was there. The grabone menu was sufficient and we chose what we wanted. Then we waited, and waited. When the starters finally arrived my arancini were barely warmed and lacked goats cheese, and my partners squid was rubbery. He sent his back and asked for the arancini, which arrived quickly. It then took over 40 mins for our mains to arrive. To say that we were the only customers it was difficult to understand why we had waited so long between courses. When our mains did arrive my beef was very tasty but a tad dry as it lacked sauce. My partner’s risotto was a little watery but again was tasty. Thankfully our dessert arrived quickly but my panna cotta had a strange texture unlike any I’ve eaten before. To be honest if we had paid full price for these meals we would have asked for a refund. The only good thing about our night was the front of house staff and the wine. Such a shame as the venue is also lovely. A disappointing anniversary.
