About Wine Chambers Restaurant
Wine Chambers Restaurant is situated in the historic General Buildings at 29-33 Shortland Street in Auckland’s CBD.
The building was originally built to house Yorkshire General Insurance in 1928. It was famed for its use of palatial and local marble and bronze, being the first centrally heated building in the country.
These factors are very much still in evidence today, with Wine Chambers offering you an elegant and grand setting for your special event.
Wine Chambers Cuisine is modern European with Kiwi influence. Our menu changes constantly with the seasons and we source only the finest ingredients; never compromising on quality.
The menu is designed to suit a variety of tastes.
The menu has something for everyone. We also have set menus available for groups over 10 people, either in one of our private rooms, or in the main body of the restaurant.
Wine Chambers has an extensive wine list.
We carry 70% New Zealand / Australian Wines including an extensive range of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone Styles. The other 30% is made up of French, Spanish & Italian wines which all compliment the menu superbly.
Each of our selected courses were excellent, and the chocolate mousse is worth a special mention. The staff were attentive and welcoming. We'll be back.
Dinner on 06 April was great. Second dinner at Wine Chambers in the past several weeks. And consistently good food and warm genuinely friendly service.
Amazing food and service. So filling, portion was just right but they fed us with lots of breads & dips for starter so we were so bloated! But food quality is amazing, especially the fish which I shall describe as succulent !
Perfect food, thank you
We had a most enjoyable experience. The staff were excellent and the food delicious. We were given good advice on the wine and enjoyed a great French wine. We used a grab one voucher, which made the evening more affordable. We would definitely visit again, with or without a voucher!
Service excellent! Wine list excellent! Foods world class. Menu change from time to time is very good. Divider removed brilliant! Spacious.
Amazing food, great service - wouldn't hesitate to go again!
Beautiful food. Friendly and helpful waiter. A great night out. Will be back
Nice building. OK service. Examples of why OK only: - we were initially allocated a table right at the entry; when we requested a nicer table location, the quick answer was "no, nothing available"; one of us pointed to a vacant table, of the same size but a much better position, and we were - somewhat reluctantly - moved there; - soon after ordering, ones of us decided to change their main dish order and asked the waiter whether it was not late to do so; without checking with anyone, the waiter's quick initial reaction: "too late"; at our request, she went to check it with the chef, and it turned out not late at all! Food: good but not great. Examples: the steak of the main dish came with a cold kumara salad; the fish dish was the same (a cold potato salad); the "marinated tuna" entree was hardly marinated - just raw fish; sauce in the main steak dish were rather simple and too overwhelming. Very good dessert (meringue, with cream, dried berries, etc.) Value for money: good at the GrabOne deal price.
Wine Chambers is a great place for a business meeting as it has a great atmosphere but is still private enough to discuss business
Although my business guest arrived 40 minutes late, I was exceptionally well looked after by the wait staff. Very pleasant in every way.
Michelle & Nicole were great.
Love your restaurant!
Gift voucher for Christmas - great idea!
Lovely dinner. Great service. Thanks
One of our mains was the chicken brest and sadly it came out very tough and hard to cut. A wee blip on an otherwise superb menu.
We had a party of six. We would have liked to have been able to buy a bottle of port. Port by the glass is awfully dear. Everything else was great, the food delicious.
Had a good feed and nice friendly staff
Service was excellent. Food was fantastic. We will be back as soon as we can :)
Awesome restaurant out with great service and a wonderful night. We were lucky enough to meet the owner and had a great chat over dinner. Well worth the money.
Food was lovely and well presented.
I was excited to be coming here but from the time we entered it felt like a staged restaurant and we were just awaiting to be punked. The bottle of wine we ordered, when we went to order a second were told there was only one bottle. Then the mains came out and mine had to be sent back twice because the pork belly was just a slab of fat with no meat and then the next one came with no vegetables. It was 30minutes between my meal and my partners so we ended up watching each other eat dinner. By 9pm, the restaurant was empty and we were the only ones left and the staff had all settled down and started their staff drinks. Awkward!! We left and went to De Bretts for cocktails - thankfully they managed to end the night on a high for us. Wont be back and have told others to avoid also. With so many good restaurants out there I wouldn't risk going to this one.
Fabulous dessert. Friendly staff but service could be quicker
