About White Rose Lounge
There's nowhere quite like The Grand when it comes to Afternoon Tea. Take in views of York's ancient city walls while indulging in a contemporary take on Britain's long-loved tower of savoury and sweet treats, presented on a silver stand. Optional upgrades to include Prosecco, Champagne, or Hendrick's Gin and Tonic are available.
Afternoon Tea is served daily, 12:00 - 15:45.
Please note that for bookings of 8 guests or more, we may offer a different venue to host your Afternoon Tea. A £10 per person deposit is also required to secure these larger bookings. For more information, please call the Dining team on 01904 380038.
Enjoyed the afternoon tea menu which offers a good mix of both traditional and more inventive flavours. Reassuring attention to specialist diets. And what a lovely waiter who looked after us so attentively.
The amuse bouche was the best part of the afternoon tea! We thoroughly enjoyed the soup and the mini Yorkshire pudding. The desserts could have been smaller portions as we were quite full up by then and couldn't manage to eat them all.
Excellent value, very friendly staff.
We had the afternoon tea and couldn't fault the food or the service, it was all fantastic.
My husband and had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon tea. The staff that served us were very efficient and made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. We couldn't have been treated better. My only criticism would be that one more sandwich and one less cake would have suited us better but that is only personal taste. The surroundings were most fitting for the type of food we had. Thank you.
Excellent service. Very friendly and attentive. Food was excellent.
Really fantastic afternoon tea thank you
Absolutely fantastic Afternoon Tea - cant wait to return
We first had afternoon tea at the Grand 2 years ago, whilst you give brilliant service, the quality of the food is questionable & the refurbishment doesn’t give diners the traditional afternoon tea experience. Sadly we did not enjoy this visit
I was very disappointed with my Afternoon Tea on 15/2/20, which I had booked to celebrate my engagement on Valentine's Day. The Afternoon Tea was denoted as being in the "Rise Restaurant" but on arriving and going up 2 flights of stairs to that Restaurant no-one was there. Eventually we eventually found a member of staff who directed us to the ground floor "White Rose Lounge" as Afternoon Tea had apparently been moved. We were shown to a small round table which was outside the periphery of the other diners, so we didn't really feel included in the atmosphere. It soon transpired that our table, smaller than all the others, wasn't really large enough for the Afternoon Tea stand and the other crockery, as it sat between the two of us making conversation difficult. We moved the stand to the window ledge which was higher than the table but as least this was an improvement. The windown was draughty and the top half of us was chilly and uncomfortable. The staff were very friendly, however, service was slow to start and it was a least 15 minutes before any food arrived. I was being served the vegetarian menu and have doubts about the first course which was a vegetarian filling inside a small 'yorkshire pudding' which tasted greasy and I had suspicions whether is was veggie as this was the same as included on the normal menu. We were served 3 finger sandwiches each, and two scones - the latter being warmly wrapped. However, we had no plates on the table and when they were brought to us they were stone cold - not even at room temperature which was a shame as the warm scones were welcome on a stormy wet and wintry day. Finally, we were given a selection of 4 resonably sized cakes each. We both felt we would have preferred more sandwiches and less cake, in fact we had the cakes boxed and taken away as 4 each was too much. I would add that the toilets were quite a way away, being along a corrider then up two flights of quite steep stairs. For the price we paid, and the fact that we both felt let-down, I feel the number of stars I have given is fair. I wouldn't make another booking unless improvements are made.
Really good catering for me as a veggie with an egg allergy! Loved the food, service was great. Can't fault anything!
The service we received was outstanding, with a special mention to how excellent Shabi was to detail.
Really pleasant way to spend a late afternoon with Champagne Afternoon Tea, good food well presented with very attentive staff at a reasonable price.
We received an afternoon tea gift from our children to celebrate our silver wedding. Unfortunately the service did not match the fabulous food! We were brought a pot of tea at least 10 minutes before any food, and then after waiting 15 minutes we had to ask for our prosecco. When the sandwiches arrived we asked for a fresh pot of tea as the earlier pot was cold. The tea was brought eventually but in a pot with a chipped spout and we had to ask for clean cups. We then had to request a bottle of water. The cakes were delicious but we again had to ask staff for plates to eat from. Very poor service from a hotel that sells itself as a 5 star establishment
Went in at 12 on a Saturday and it was quiet. By 1 when we left it was pretty busy. Service was fantastic. Tea and food was lovely. Portion size of the cakes were that huge that we had to take some home! :) Around £57 with included tip for 2.
Everything was perfect and the young lady who was hosting breakfast in the White Rose Lounge was delightful.
Service was outstanding All food was fresh and presented well however not to my taste
