About White Lion
Join us at our restaurant at the White Lion Hotel in the heart of Aldeburgh.
Our food has been inspired by a desire to return to simple, 'back to basics' food and impeccable service, offering freshly prepared dishes in contemporary surroundings.
The restaurant menu includes the likes of fresh fish bought from Dean's Fish Shed, situated on the beach opposite the White Lion, to smoked kippers sourced from Pinney's of Orford.
Every ingredient used in the exciting dishes featured on the menu, has been 'hand picked' to guarantee an abundance of flavours.
We believe that eating out should be a fun experience, shared with family, friends and your canine companians. That's why not only can we offer children their own menu, also if you wish for something for you doggy friend we are happy to cook them a meaty meal.
Please note that your doggy friends are only able to join you at table in either our bar or lounge areas
Again a fabulous Sunday lunch ,efficient friendly service and great value for money . Stylish decor and we Wouldn’t go anywhere else !! Thankyou
We really love our stays at the White Lion - A fantastic setting next to the beach, nice view out to sea, characterful building, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good service, good food, nice walks and shops in Aldeburgh
Very happy with the service and facilities of this hotel.
Very good as usual unlike your sister hotel in Orford. It was recommended by your manager to give it a look so we drove over after lunch for coffee. The front door was locked and so saw a waiter at side he said oh sorry no we are open we often lock front door, so we went in the rear door. We were greeted with a lady who asked if we were resident we said no but we had been to your sister hotel for lunch in Aldeburgh and how we were sent over to give you a look as would like to eat here in following weeks. We were aghast as told sorry we only serve coffee to residents and didn’t even offer to show us around. We said so we can’t get a couple of coffees and they said no. We were so dissapointed I don’t know any hotel / restaurant in today’s climet that can turn business away, it was also very clear that the staff were just standing around with nothing to do and didn’t want anything to do. We had stayed here & eaten here previously under previous ownership and had coffee at separate times but were never treated in this way, we certainly won’t be returning. It is a far cry from the wonderful service we receive with you at the White Lion. We would be pleased if you would pass this feedback on to senior management. Kind regards David & Julie Cable-Warren
Great location. Clean traditional hotel. Food was wonderful. Staff friendly and helpful.
I enjoyed a lovely evening at the White Lion for the first time. The waitresses were welcoming, friendly and helpful throughout our meal. We didn't have to wait long in between courses and the goats cheese starter and pork belly main were delicious! The Singapore sling cocktail was luscious!
A lovely meal. Piping hot. Delicious. We enjoyed every mouthful. Thank you.
Fantastic food, friendly staff, great overall experience. Recommend for a special night out, we will definitely be returning!
Staff were helpful and attentative. Whilst the hotel was clean and nicely laid out inside, with some modern touches, the exterior of the property looked a little tired and scruffy. The afternoon tea was pleasant although I would have expected a glass of Prosecco to accompany the experience. The gluten free options available where enjoyed throughly.
The menu was a disappointment and a little overpriced. When I made the booking online the menu was much more interesting - in the event it was not dissimilar to what you could find in most pubs.
Absolutely love the White Lion. We frequent the hotel numerous times throughout the year. The service is second to none, atmosphere is so relaxing and the welcome we receive each time is fantastic. The food is exquisite, my favourite being the Sea Spice. They never fail to disappoint and couldn’t be more helpful. Looking forward to our next visit. Fiona McGinty
Friendly staff and good food!
We had a lovely stay with our 10 year old daughter who loved it too. We felt very welcomed and looked after by your friendly and efficient staff. We enjoyed playing the board games during happy hour, and the range of drinks and fresh fish were delicious in the restaurant. The scones at Afternoon Tea were perfect - warm & fresh, and the breakfast was excellent. Our room was fresh and clean although a little warm and we would prefer more room another time with a sea view. We'll have to come back!
Extremely poor service. Dinners incorrect. Took an age for drinks to arrive and clear plates
We went for an early evening Sunday lunch - we had 3 different roasts between us and each was excellent- good green vegetables, crispy potatoes and succulent meat - desserts were good too. Excellent friendly staff.
Excellent service especially from Clemence, our waitress. It is a shame that aspects of the food were disappointing. Sauce served with roast pork was tasteless and watery spoiling the dish which was good. Jam roly-poly was appalling! Burnt on bottom and grossly over cooked. It was so dry I was not sure if the filling was jam or chocolate?
Enjoyable Sunday lunch
Food was lovely and staff were very friendly and professionsl
The top stars above say it all, good food, good friendly service, bottomless teapot, comfortable seating, our little dog made welcome - what more could we wish for! Thank you to the staff who went out of their way to look after us.
Always feel welcome here been several times food great though last night was a bit slow great breakfast see you soon
Both restaurants serve excellent food. Sea Spice is truly exceptional, serving the most amazing Indian cuisine. Breakfasts are lovely and all food so delicious and fresh. Lovely comfy, cosy room, but just one small bit of advice.....waiters/waitresses/chefs could perhaps make better note of some customer requests. My husband ordered the fish platter starter but with no prawns as he's allergic to them. Despite the waiter passing this on, the starter still arrived with prawns! Also at breakfast, my husband asked for hot water to drink and I requested just one poached egg on toast......my husband received a glass of cold tap water and I received two poached eggs. Apart from the prawn situation, none of the other mistakes were 'game changing' but perhaps a few 'tweaks' required in this area. Also noticed that soundproofing in our room (5) wasn't particularly good as both nights we were able to hear the guest next door snoring very loudly and this did disturb our sleep. We have stayed here once before and despite these few little 'niggles'...and that's all that they are...just little 'niggles'...... we love the White Lion and will definitely be back again. Thankyou.
Excellent Sunday lunch, would highly recommend. Beef, chicken, Pork and veggie options all good. Great value for money and a wonderful location.
Service Food and surroundings were all excellent and made our stay a very special experience
All your staff that we met whilst staying with you were lovely but Chloe stood out as she has such a lovely way about her. She is a great asset to your establishment.
Very pleasant 2 night stay. Room a little dated and in need of tlc. Cooking smells pervaided the corridor outside our room. Knew fish was on the menu. Given the above we would stay again as the staff lovely and position superb.
