About Whitby's Restaurant & Bar
Whitby's Restaurant & Bar is renowned as the best buffet restaurant in town. Located on the 17th floor of the hotel, it boasts views of the city and harbour. Whitby's offers an extensive buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner with an a la carte dinner as well.
We are from Whanganui, and took our daughter and her partner to Whitby's Restaurant for a family meal, to celebrate her graduation. We were very impressed with the variety and quality of the food on offer. The standout feature was the desert buffet, complete with an ice-cream cart! It was also nice to have a piano player providing the background music, and this made a lovely ambiance. We were extremely pleased with our evening, and glad we chose to celebrate at Whitby's. We will be recommending it to all our friends and family as a must do when visiting Wellington.
Our experience was alful we booked a mother’s day lunch for myself and daughters at whitbys restaurant however we were put in a side conference room with no windows or service and no atmosphere absolutely shocking will never go back. when mentioning it to the staff as we left she simply said we were very busy well how about to let people know that they are not actually going to be in the restaurant terrible ruined my whole day 😢
Limited selections plus average taste, not worth for the money.
The food was amazing and we’ll definitely be back! Only feedback is some hot chips or wedges would be awesome! The waiter looked at us a little odd when we ordered coke spiders and said you didn’t do those. I had to tell her I’ve ordered those multiple times before……she never asked us if we wanted to ordered more drinks. Either way we will be back
Food was very average, layout of food wasn't attractive and desserts lacked variety. Was obvious service staff were inexperienced or poorly trained, slow to clear away used dishes efficiently.
Good value for money and changes in dishes are nice and refreshing without having the same food Everytime. Lovely staff, only small downfall is it can get quite loud in the dining area, but overall we enjoyed a great dinner.
On Saturday my family and I enjoyed a very beautiful meal at James Cook Hotel. Unfortunately their lack of communication and poor quality of policy constitution is a reason we will never go back. Following research there is no evidence of their statement attached at the bottom of my invoice: "Please be reminded that you must inform us if there is any change of the number unless you will be charged in full amount" being a policy. There is no policy manner i.e. a disclaimer, a statement of intent, and is implemented as a procedure or protocol. I had tried calling their restaurant 3 times in a row previous to my dinner reservation and the male that answered my call said "Sorry we are very busy can you call back at 10pm" which I replied "So if I turn up on Saturday with or without my booked numbers it shouldn't matter?" His reply "Yes, yes" and then he hung up. Upset at the fact that we paid 7 adults at $54.00 a person, 1 of which never existed on original booking. Had we known this was going to be the case and they explained it to us on the night we would not have such a problem and we would not be as upset as we are with the extra cost we were forced to pay.
Shocking service! Paid for our party of 10 upon entering (as I was shouting and didn’t want anyone to pay for their meal). We ordered a round of cocktails they arrived after 20mins. Mine didn’t though, we asked and they apologized and said they would follow it up, 10mins later, reminded them again, they were following up, eventually when I saw the bar staff standing around and laughing with other staff, I approached the bar staff to get it made. I got my cocktail approx 45mins after ordering it?! It was my 50th birthday and I really wanted to celebrate but ended up only having 1 drink because of terrible service. Then as our party was leaving the manager ran through customers to get to us, holding the lift to ask if we had paid our bill?! How bloody embarrassing, other customers looking at us thinking we were skipping out without paying!!! The food was nice but was totally ruined by the service!
Thank you, your team provided an exceptional experience for mothers day and we would return again!
Our host Lance was attentive, interesting and kind. I cannot recommend him highly enough. My friend who was celebrating his 80th birthday had a wonderful time and Lance even decorated a plate with birthday greetings and chocolates. He really was exceptional. The food and teas were of a high standard, so thank you very much. Please thank Lance again from us.
The food was great, except for the chilli garlic corn baguette, which had no detectable chilli or garlic flavour at all. That failure was probably made more noticeable because everything else was excellent
Awesome service overall, will definitely come often for future important celebrations 🍾😀👍👏🙌😊🥰💝
Thank you to the Chef Tasi and the lovely crew for a beautiful evening. Highly enjoyed the service and atmosphere. The dining was delightful as I had 3 mains and 2 desserts!! 🤪
Ther was no plates ..no glasses .spoons .mugs for coffee without havin to chase a staff member.at times no pastries or bread for 45 mins .once things were ran out of the breakfast service at 9am they went replenished for the entire service
Food was not that great, pork was too hard. Not a good variety for the cost of $54, not worth it. I wasn't impressed, I dined here 2 years ago & that was better food than this time round. Maybe add some fries or lasagna or something. For $54, that was not worth it! Disappointed this time round, food is overrated
Experience was interesting.
We had a great breakfast buffet , thanks.
We thought the $10 for a bottle of still/sparkling water was pricey. Overall we had a great night.
An excellent variety of food, including the seafood area which many buffets skimp on. Everything appeared to have been cooked fresh that day and certainly everything we ate was fresh and tasty. Nice sauces on all the meats and fish. The only minor disappointment - common to all buffets - is that meats which benefit from a bit of pinkness, like the wonderfully tender beef on offer - continue cooking so by the time we got there it was all well done. But a minor quibble in what was otherwise excellent value for money. The wine list has some better than expected choices, too.
Great food and excellent service.
Excellent for our 54th reunion at the Piano Bar.
great place for families to spend time.
Horrible food especially at $58 a person, was an absolute rip off. Terrible selection of food and the food were pre frozen food. The meat was so chewy you couldn't even eat it! Would definitely be telling people to stay AWAY from this place.
