About Ubiquitous Chip Restaurant
The Chip was opened by Ronnie Clydesdale on the 11th January 1971, at a time when Scottish cuisine was confined solely to the home. Chefs of the day knew only Italian or French cooking, and if you wanted to eat out in Glasgow your choice was limited.
In the early years, to suggest that Scotland had a legitimate unique cuisine was an anathema. We had a vision to bring back Scottish cuisine, and to become the best place to eat in Glasgow.
From day one The Chip drew its inspiration from regional Scottish dishes. Aunties, grannies and even folklore were a constant source of influence. Some thought us daft, and saw eating out for Glasgow and Scottish cuisine preposterous. Yet, some 40 years on Ronnie’s faith in our national cuisine has been embraced across the country, and Scottish produce is deservedly acclaimed as some of the best in the world.
We are now one of the best places to eat out in Glasgow. But we will never settle, and will constantly strive to improve our food, fresh ingredients and atmosphere.
Continually inspired by Scotland’s larder, The Chip has grown to become something of a Glasgow icon. Our courtyard dining room is one of the most endearing magical spaces to eat out in the area. A fine dining menu is on offer in the restaurant and a lighter brasserie menu in the various bars, mezzanine and roof terrace.
As one of the best restaurants in Glasgow we have picked up a thing or two over the years. Throughout the year our menus are dictated by the seasons. Over the decades we have built up a network of specialist suppliers who share our love of food. For locals this ethos has made The Chip a veritable institution and, for many, their chosen place for eating out.
For a memorable dining experience, come down and see why we call The Chip one of the best places to eat out in Glasgow.
The location and atmosphere was a perfect date night dinner! The food was delicious, but perhaps a bit on the small side. The lamb wasn’t available but it was substituted for roe deer and it was Perfect!
Hello We have just returned to Canada from our Scotland trip. Ubiquitous Chip was most certainly the highlight meal of our two week stay. Servers were welcoming and knowledgeable, food thoughtfully prepared with interesting flavors on offer. Good atmosphere. Would definitely recommend UC to friends!
Wee bit of an issue with getting two starters on time, but that might be us at fault as much as our waiter. Stunning as always, been a few times now and it’s my favourite restaurant in Glasgow. Steak was amazing and the Caledonian ice cream was mind blowing. Keep up the great work. 9.5/10. 👍🏽
Excellent food, wine and service. Could not fault it despite it being a busy Saturday night
The Vegetarian Menu is fine and well presented. We have been ordering from it for many years. That said, like other Restaurant Veggie Menus outwit London, you are omitting to ensure Protein Veggie dishes are available. Please consider adding Gardain,Tempeh and Quorn dishes to your Veggie Menu. As always a Glasgow institute great food, great restaurant, great Westend.
Had a lovely lunch and afternoon, as usual, though the rib- eyed beef was disappointing.
Delighted to get a seat in Courtyard, as it's a special place
Great value for the set lunch menu. Beautiful food, great service and such a treat! Would absolutely recommend.
We really enjoyed our meal. The service was great and the food was superb. The Dessert & drink matching were a particular highlight.
We couldn't fault it - from the service to the food quality, gorgeous surroundings and value for money. Definitely going to be back.
Great surroundings. Great food. Great staff. Great night out with family.
Everything was perfect!
The Chip never fails to impress and delight. From front of house reception to waiting staff, sommelier and the ‘boys in the back room ‘of the kitchen, all were working at the height of their game to make us feel welcome and provide the sort of dining experience for which the Chip is deservedly renowned. Great food, great wine and great service. Thank you.
Staff were friendly and professional in providing a first class service. Food and the overall experience excellent.
Beautiful room but we felt the service was what made it, we had an amazing night & a big thank you to your staff.
We ate at your restaurant every day we were in Glasgow. And I posted a 5 star review to TripAdvisor.
High quality food, high quality staff! A wonderful Glaswegian eating experience. Comes at a price but is highly worth it.
Everything was great -food and service with a great atmosphere 👍 only quibble was price of children’s meal and soft drink £12 per head for a 2 year old seems excessive
Great night at the Chip.
Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Maybe a little bit pricey but nice to visit on a special occasion.
We had a very nice evening here. Food is of a high standard although portions are small and prices are high. The atmosphere is excellent as was the service.
This was honestly the best meal and best restaurant experience that my husband and I have ever had. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and every single aspect of the meal was superb. We can’t wait to come back!
Very slow to bring the wine and had to be reminded. Wine came when almost finished main course! Kids menu is dire!
