About Turtle Bay Oxford
Welcome to Turtle Bay Oxford
Rum.. Reggae.... Jerk... Caribbean eating and drinking... is at the heart and soul of island culture.
Our food is inspired by laid back beach shacks and street vendors of the Caribbean. From fragrant jerk marinades, to slowly simmered curries there’s something for everyone. It’s not just about spice either, for us it’s all about FLAVOUR – we spend months crafting each dish until it tastes just right. And just like a beach shack in the Caribbean, the food is just the beginning. Wash down with a cocktail (or two), sit back and be transported to a world where conversations and reggae beats flow long into the night.
I changed my order while ordering and I don’t know if I then got the wrong order, as my trini curry wasn’t as good as I’ve had them. I have ordered them numerous times before. So the food wasn’t as good as i know it to be but it wouldn’t stop me going back again.
Amazing drink and atmosphere!! Rum chocolate pudding was far too rum heavy and the aftertaste was like having a shot! Super amazing sharing board though! Will definitely come again
Hi Elizabeth, I am glad you liked our drinks and the atmosphere i will pass along the information about the chocolate pudding. Next time why not try our chocolate brownie loads of good reviews and no alcoholic after taste.
First time visit and I was really pleased with the service received and the quality of the food. Will definitely pay another visit and recommend to people
Staff were friendly and attentive, bar staff worked so hard, especially as there was only 2 working and lots of people wanting orders .. Mostly coctails
Brilliant food and great service, even though it was a Saturday night and full of people - food came quickly and was amazing.
Had a lovely time here. Was in the middle of happy hour so things couldn’t be any more great. Food was quick and delicious as always. ‘Drinking rummmm and red bullllll’
My food was burnt quite a lot which made it difficult to eat and couldn't eat much of it. Service was good once we actually were seen which took a while from when we were seated.
I booked here with a large group of 10 friends.I had never eaten here before. I ordered the curried goat which I'd never eaten. It was delicious! Service was fast and efficient. Staff were friendly too. All in all I would definitely eat here again. 😀
Have to say a very poor experience for the second time in 6 months and will not be going back to the Oxford venue again. Although the week before in Bournemouth was very good. Oxford again was crazy slow service with food and drink. Six months ago our order was taken but never arrived. This time people arriving 30 mins after us had their food and again ours did not appear until we complained. It was then cold. They did explain they were short on staff again. Like last time, but this is a shocking way to run a restaurant. Both times the manager sorted the bill out for us but you want to go out and have a good time and nice meal not spend your evening waiting for your food and then having to complain aboug it.
Really do not know why people come here...the food is awful...not authentic Caribbeanin any way, tasteless...sorry no super salty...no spicing and very little on the plate for what you are charged. The wItresses would be better served to attend to the few customers in the place rather than flirting with the male staff or playing in their phones. At least the manager was good enough to acknowledgment dissatisfaction with our meal and not charge us for them...would we return....that would be a no.
Service was so slow and SO quiet. Had to call over waiter to ask for menus/bill/place order each time and took ages to come.
Loved the overall experience. The staff was amazing and all the cocktails were made to perfection, can't recommend this place enough!!
Favourite place in Oxford :) would recommend to anyone.
Nice venue, but we experienced extreme delays with main courses, having to re-order twice as they didn't know what was in stock. This meant we all ate at different times, which wasn't ideal.
7 of us dined at Turtle Bay on 24th March. We arrived ten minutes before our due time of 8.00, aware of the fact my confirmation email advised that if we were going to be late our table could only be held for 10 minutes. I was told which was our table and would we like to go to the bar for drinks as the diners on our table had just ordered more drinks. It turned out they were also still waiting for food. At 8.10 I went to speak with the guy near the door to see how things were progressing. He said he was sorry that we were waiting but if needs be he would find us another table. I pointed out what my confirmation email had stipulated which he knew nothing about, he also said it was his first day. At 8.30 my husband asked to see the duty manager. The same guy I spoke to was the duty manager. Turns out it wasn’t his first day with Turtle Bay but his first day at Turtle Bay in Oxford. The manager apologised again and said they would look after us. We were eventually sat to our table 40 minutes late but from then we weren’t disappointed. Our food was excellent and our waitress Abbie was very professional and friendly. We will definitely return but maybe not on a Saturday evening. I think if you have an early table booking the customers need to be told what time the table is next needed to avoid the situation we were in. Either that or remove the fact the table booking is lost if you’re ten minutes late ( and that’s if you tell Turtle Bay you’ll be late). We received a discount on our bill which was very much appreciated but could have been avoided if our table was on time.
It’s now our regular! We love the heck out of this place, great food and drinks and the atmosphere is nice and chilled!
Fantastic food and value for money.
The staff dealt with our complaint (luke warm food) swiftly and without fuss. We’ve eaten here a few times and will continue to do so :)
Fabulous way to spend time with friends, fab food and amazing cocktails.
Food felt thrown together and poor presentation. Lacked a kick in flavour. Felt like a canteen - all squashed together
Easy to book, great food
Regular visitors to Turtle Bay Oxford, always great atmosphere friendly staff great cocktails lovely food, Perfect for before and after the Theatre Thanks Chris & Carol
Lovely food great cocktails staff are excellent
It took 35-45mimutes to be seated even though I reserved a table for 8pm. And took just as long for our mains to arrive if not longer. Good job the music distracts you to have a little boogie while you wait
Booked for Valentine’s Day, we were really looking forward to it as we have been to the Liverpool branch and always had a lovely time. Unfortunately our expectations weren’t matched in the oxford branch. The Valentine’s set menu wasn’t explained to us; we felt that the man who served us was quite standoffish. The main was a little disappointing, one of the meals wasn’t quite hot. This would have been okay had we not then had to wait nearly 40 minutes for dessert, which was very underwhelming and really not worth the wait. The server was not apologetic at all even after we had to ask multiple times how long our dessert would be. Overall we were very disappointed as we have always had really positive experiences at Turtle Bay in the past.
