About Turtle Bay Colchester
Welcome to Turtle Bay Colchester!
Jerk... Rum.. Reggae....
Caribbean eating and drinking... is at the heart and soul of the Caribbean Island culture and we, here at Turtle Bay, aim to capture the essence of this way of life and the great food that evolves here. We are a Caribbean restaurant serving authentic great tasting Caribbean style food from Aruba to Saint Lucia. You will also taste our fantastic rum based cocktails and experience friendly service which we hope leaves customers wanting to come back to our bay again and again.
Good food, surprisingly cheap
The food was out of this world.... never been to a place where we felt so welcome and comfortable in .... can’t wait to go back and try more
The waitress was really lovely and polite. Great service.
Third time at Turtle Bay! Service is excellent and the atmosphere is great if you want a fun night out. On top of all that the food is good and the cocktails are outdtanding😀
Amazing food, 4th time of eating there and never disappointed.
I was disappointed with my cocktail. It was served in a metal beaker, the same as was used for fries. I could not taste any of the alcohol. Very weak.
The staff were very friendly/helpful and the food/drinks were amazing! Would definitely go back there
Great food, atmosphere and service, this was our 2nd visit and we will be back again.
It took 15 minutes to get a drink, another long wait for our food, food was only warm when it arrived not hot. Our wine never arrived at all. We left as soon as we had eaten and went elsewhere for the rest of the evening. Nice place, nice music but Very disappointed with poor food and service. Won’t be returning.
Great place to eat lovely atmosphere
Delicious food, brilliant service in a happy, buzzing atmosphere!
We waited about 20 minutes before somebody took our order. My friend complained as her food was cold. Mine was tasty but lukewarm. Our drinks still hadn’t been served by this point (white wine and lemonade). When we made a complaint about no drinks, somebody explained that they’d ran out of the wine my friend ordered so had to get some. I don’t know why they didn’t offer her an alternative. When we finally got the drinks, her wine was warm, not chilled as it it had been stored at room temperature. Our waiter was apologetic but dismissive. We were given a discount of our bill.
Fantastic food choice - I’ll definitely be back
Had a great time on my birthday, my family hadn't eaten there before but they all want to go back. The only negative and it's small really, is that the restaurant was quite cold. We were struggling towards the end with the air vents being directly above us. Otherwise we had a great night!
I love Turtle Bay and it was the first time I had visited the Colchester branch and I was very impressed. The staff were super friendly and attentive and even gave us 2 free drinks as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The food was AMAZING yum yum yum and the cocktails were great too! love the atmosphere there and the music was great! all round very happy with our experience and cannot wait to go again soon!!
Food and cocktails were poor quality and nothing like carribean food but service was great.
Really good, friendly service and top quality value for money food
Great evening & food
The waitress was really friendly 😬
Great evening the service was wonderful wish I could remember there names but a young girl and a guy were great
Service was really bad
Service was slow initially but once we had ordered it improved.
Everything was amazing!
I went for the first time to Turtle Bay with my husband and another couple. A booked a table online on the previous day, which was very easy to do. And when my husband was late finishing his work I managed to change the time of the table reservation online again very easily. When we arrived at the restaurant and made our way past the bar area to the restaurant area, our confused look on who to approach was greeted by a man in a shirt who took us to our table. Then we were greeted by a lovely waitress who attended to us for the night. I have an intolerance to lactose so she brought over the allergens menus and pointed out that the dots indicate the dishes where dairy is present. The allergens menu was easy (though rather large) to read and cross reference with the normal menu and there were enough choices for me to choose what I wanted. Also when I glanced at the pudding options I was very surprised and excited to see one “milk free” option, which was a cheesecake. We all ordered our starters and mains and our starters arrived within a very reasonable amount of time. We all very much enjoyed our starter. Our main course however had mixed reviews. The Curry Goat was very much enjoyed by one friend, my other friend also enjoyed her dish, I enjoyed the flavor of the spinach, Aubergine and sweet potato curry but did have to pick out several woody stalks from my mouth on several occasions, which was a bit embarrassing whilst in conversation but did not wish to swallow them! My husband ordered the pork belly, which he found overly fatty and actually made him feel sick so much that he had to lay down and go to sleep as soon as we got home. He also found the side order of dumplings very dry! He did however very much enjoy the peanut butter and banana smoothie, twice! When it came to puddings, I was glad I checked with the waitress the “milk free” cheesecake as the cheesecake was not in fact milk free at all, which was very disappointing. And there were no other milk free options. She was kind enough to check with the kitchen for other options, but unfortunately was unable to offer me anything. But this did make me question the accuracy of the rest of the allergens menu as to whether I did have a milk free dinner at all... It also seemed like the waitress needed a little more training on intolerances/allergens as she seems a bit confused by the fact that I was not intolerant to eggs but just milk. They may both fall into the “dairy” catergory for vegans but not for the lactose intolerant. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive all evening. The atmosphere was good, though the bass was quite intense from the music at times. We overall had a lovely evening, with just a few disappointments.
