Chef Robert Thompson’s style has always been a congenial one: his menus have remained brief and to the point, his style of cooking respectful of the old classics, yet mindful of a modern dining trend that values, above all, lightness and freshness, only serving dishes that you can imagine he would enjoy eating himself. He always looks no further than the producers outside his front door.
Great food with a great service
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, attentive service!
Best food I ever had! We loved the cook on the lamb, and how moist the fish was. Appetizers were full of flavor and light. Drinks were great and excellent service. Thanks so much for a great experience, can’t wait to come back!
We had an amazing lunch at Thompsons, great food and wine in a lovely relaxing and unpretentious setting, thank you
Wonderful experience as always - delighted that my London based family also rate Thompsons highly!
I’m often disappointed when I eat out, but not this time. We had the seasonal set lunch menu, which was delicious and very good value. The staff were attentive and friendly. It was the perfect lunch experience.
Wonderful food, great service!
All the tasting canope were a delicious addition to the fabulous three courses we enjoyed. Our visit was a gastronomic delight and a good feel experience. Looking forward to returning for the tasting menue.
Fabulous lunch, all perfect. Burnt honey panna cotta dessert best ever 😀
Great lunch at an excellent price. Enoyable introduction to an interesting wine from Uruguay.
Every amuse bouche and each course was a wonderful combination of amazing tastes. This is top class cooking combined with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere
Dinner was lovely. The staff were all very attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Thank you - we shall try to return soon
Great food and brilliant service!
The game menu was excellent, particularly the carpaccio of venison, the duck and the cheese beignet assembly. The only dish we felt missed the mark was the cannelloni of pheasant where the meat was lacking taste and texture. Service spot on.
A wonderful experience as always, food, service and friendliness of everyone there. I think it’s a universal thought though that the seating could be made more comfortable, and individual upholstered dining chairs would make the experience less painful. Keep the rustic tables if you think that enhances the decor but please consider replacing the hard wooden benches which are only marginally made more comfortable by the staff offering cushions if required. We might even consider visiting more often if it were comfortable to sit for a couple of hours! Apart from that, highly recommended.
An excellent lunch in the Kitchen Room with my parents who thoroughly enjoyed both the wonderfully prepared dishes but also the opportunity to see the chefs at work in the Kitchen. Thank you Thompson’s!
The food was beautifully cooked and presented and the detailed description of each dish was both fascinating and also heightened the taste experience. We were a little disappointed that our choice of wine was not available, and we had two questions about the menu which our waiter was initially unable to answer. The Game Night menu was a great opportunity to try different dishes and we enjoyed them all, with the proviso that, overall, we found the selection rather rich.
We enjoyed an excellent evening of delicious food, superb wine and cocktails and a very convivial atmosphere. We can't wait to return
Good to be served by the people who have cooked and really understand the food.
In my experience, consistently excellent in all aspects. Robert & his team always make us feel very welcome. Thompsons is our first choice for stunning & interesting food & drink on the Isle Of Wight. Thank you!
Yum! Lovely, as always.
Fabulous food and excellent service in a lovely building.
With out question one of the most enjoyable dinners we have had. Intimate, inclusive dinning with spectacular dishes, each one introduced by members of the brigade and supported by a knowledgeable and attentive front of house team. Leading from the front, Chef Thompson was engaged with his guests and wonderfully approachable. This is an exceptional restaurant and deserving of every accloade it has received.
Very enjoyable time spent watching Robert Thompson showing us how to improve the cooking of the humble pheasant followed by a delicious meal to follow. Highly recommended.
