About Thomas Carr @ The Olive Room
“A simple, homely restaurant beneath a B&B, run by an experienced local chef who trained under Nathan Outlaw. Ultra-fresh seafood is the focus, with dishes only confirmed once the day boat deliveries come in. Cooking is skilled” - MICHELIN guide inspectors
Recently awarded a Michelin star for the 2017 Michelin Guide, here at Thomas Carr @ The Olive Room in Ilfracombe, quality and comfort are paramount. We believe that fine dining is best enjoyed in a relaxed and unpretentious environment.
We are incredibly lucky to live and work in such a beautiful area. To take full advantage of our location, we source the very best in local, seasonal ingredients, making the most of the abundance North Devon has to offer.
We hope to welcome you soon.
A really enjoyable and intimate dining experience with some truly delicious food!
A welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Food absolutely amazing. Would love to come back. Highly recommend
We had the 6 course starter menu, mackerel amuse bouche followed by 4 fish dishes, 1 meat and a chocolate based pudding. The fish dishes were stunning, particularly the bream & hake and we would have been happy for all the dishes to have been fish based. The pudding was to die for. Our only criticism would be that there was a little too much time between the dishes being served, and had we of known that we would have booked an earlier table. All in all a fantastic experience for a special occasion.
we only get to come once a year whilst on holiday and great to see that the impeccable standards have been maintained. Great food and service, nice to see a reasonably priced wine list too.
Thoroughly enjoyable meal. Really welcoming and friendly service. The food was beautifully presented and tasted lovely.
Service was outstanding. Rarely have waitresses been so technical, knowledgeable and precise. Enthousiastic and friendly, they considerably enhanced our experience. Thumbs up!
Fabulous meal. Second visit and didn't disappoint. See you next year.
Food was great, 6 courses maximum on the night we attended. Delivery could be a little slow (arrived 6:30pm left about 10:30pm), so ensure you're set for the evening! Overall, great!
Absolutely delicious and a very special evening celebrating my husbands birthday with visiting family. Felt very proud to bring them to The Olive Room as we love everything about it. Thanks again to Kevin who always enhances our evening.
Lovely food, great service, a wonderful evening out.
A fabulous dining experience. Really great food and very friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend.
We went for Veggie and I was not disappointed. WOW. Great flavours dished up 6 times. What's not to like. Recommended. Will be back soon.
I booked in for my fiancé’s Birthday as I wanted to do something a bit special. The whole dining exercise XS at thomas Carr was just that and more. The food was incredible and you could really tell how much time and effort had gone into making each dish as unique and tasty as possible. Along with the wonderful service from the staff we received, we really could not fault our visit. 10 out of 10 all round.
The food is absolutely stunning
Small intimate restaurant with excellent food.
I now know what Michelin food standard is Simply stunning
We had excellent value for money as we were offered a deal for moving our booking from Seafood and Grill.Much as we love the food we are not in a position to pay £75 or £95 for dinner. If there was a more affordable or a la carte option we would eat there more frequently-so we now book Seafood and Grill instead. The food,as ever, was perfection on a plate. There was only 9 people eating so maybe Thomas could be more like Sat Bains and show his face to the customers.
Fantastic Food, Service and Ambience! Would highly recommend if you are looking for a dining experience in a simple, relaxed atmosphere. All 6 dishes we had were fantastic, and with a great mixture on the Vegetarian sharing option also.
Cannot fault the lovely meal and experience we had last night. Wonderful to find food of this quality on a quiet street in North Devon!
Music was intrusive and a bit loud. That’s my only criticism! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - we were on holiday from Northumberland so are used to great fish cookery but we thought our meal was brilliant. If we comeback to Devon we will come again.
Superb from start to finish Thank you very much for a great evening, highly recommend to anyone who enjoys fantastic food! John & Fliss, Hay on Wye.
Food was exceptional, Waitress was lovely, Fairly priced
the food was excellent, the fish courses were top, the main course being meat was very nice but fish is certainly the specialty of the chef. I gave a 5 star quote just for the food which is still the most important to me but the welcome was not great. It was a pity we could not have the 8 course menu due to one of us having an allergy for shellfish but we can understand that. The girls didn’t suggest an aperitif which we found odd. The wine was very nice and excellently priced, but we had to poor it ourselves during the evening. So all in all excellent food but the service could be much better and we would have loved to see the chef after diner.
Great meal. Very impressive flavours and lovely staff.
