About The White Swan
The White Swan in Fence is a small lively local pub that serves great food, wine and Timothy Taylors award winning real ales. Chef Tom Parker is rapidly gaining a deserved reputation for outstanding food, Awards include a Michelin Star and 2 AA rosettes whilst The Good Pub Guide and Casque Mark also recognise the quality of Real Ale that is being served.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff. Unfortunately we were all disappointed with some of the food. Very limited choices, especially when there was only one potion of the beef left! You know how many bookings you have way ahead of time and with such limited 3 main course options at least make sure you have all 3 available. I had the egg starter and some of the white was raw which was very off putting. Dessert i enjoyed but there was the treacle tart or cheese, very limiting. I enjoyed it but dont feel the pressntation, or the meal/ food overall for that matter, was michilelin standard at all. Not a patch on Northcote.
Food was amazing, service was good but had to ask for a drink a couple of times and was not served the original drink request.
A great meal in a relaxed atmosphere, thanks to friendly staff and outstanding cooking.
Wonderful thank you
We've eaten at a number of restaurants at a range of starred places, the White Swan stands up to the 2 and 3 star ones we've eaten at. The food was outstanding and extremely reasonable in price. Can't wait to go back for our next visit.
Wow wow wow definitely be visiting again amazing food, great friendly service and fantastic real ales. Going to be hard to beat only wish it was on my door step as would be there 7 nights a week.
Food was incredible, from start to finish I can’t fault anything we ate, or drank for that matter! It was quite unusual going to a Michelin star in such a relaxed setting, it was a refreshing change to say the least. Service was good, it was a little more transactional than what I’d expect but the people were pleasant and friendly. Overall a good experience and we would go back again.
Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable evening with great food and friendly, welcoming staff. Highly recommended
An excellent meal all the food was great, but the salmon starter was exquisite, melt in your mouth. I also loved the Rubarb gin. Friendly knowledgable staff. A perfect evening. Thank you.
We had a wonderful meal - each course was very good. The wine and cheese advice was very good which really enhanced our meal.
Tom's food has always been exceptional. We invited some corporate colleagues from Skipton and they couldn't believe we had such a fabulous restaurant on our doorstep. Keep up the good work, team!!
As always a wonderful meal. We count ourselves very lucky to have such a fabulous place to come to and eat amazing food!
Best sunday lunch ever...
I didn't realise dogs were allowed in the seating area in the bar and we'd been allocated a table there. I asked for a different tablw away from dogs and this was immediately sorted out.
Had a great Sunday lunch and a couple of cocktails. Staff were lovely
Perfect on all counts, absolutely delicious food - I only wish it was closer to Manchester so I could have stayed for a bit of all day drinking... I'll definitely be back!
Extraordinary experience. Five courses, two of them 10/10. The only thing that could make the food better is more texture; a familiar problem with chefs coming out of the North West starred brigades. And keep hold of the bread! You'll want it for mopping up. Gordo, from www.confidentials.com
hi , wont beat about the bush , didn't like it, poor limited choice , very very small portions , not good value, would not come back again .
Excellent lunch, superb Taylors beers, wines, brilliant food and fantastic service...
The pub is a good pub with good pub food. I appreciate how horrible this sounds, and it isn't meant to be, but the Michelin star has been a curse rather than a blessing. Rather than expecting a nice homely pub with great food the star suggests Michelin standard service to go with the food. Unfortunately in my experience this wasn't the case and the service is at the standard of a normal pub. Being handed plates/glasses/cutlery as waitresses cannot reach your side of the table or having to stand up to pour your wine isn't what I would expect form a Michelin star restaurant. the food on the other hand, though small, was worthy, and was a delight. The meal was value for money, for the quality and invention of the food the price we paid was more than fair. But, we all did leave hungry. I think when the restaurant loses the star it can go back to what it should be, a great little homely pub/restaurant - still a destination pub. Unless the service vastly improves it isn't at the same level as other one star restaurants in my opinion. Appreciate this isn't great and may not be what you want to hear...but you did ask!
Warm welcome, attentive but not intrusive service, Exquisite flavours in unusual beautifully cooked and presented dishes. Set lunch a “steal” but unable to resist dishes with extra supplements. Table on the small side.
The best duck breast I have ever eaten! Our party of four had a great time. Thanks.
The food was amazing the staff really attentive without being intrusive
Amazing food, staff so friendly, the tasting menu coupled with the wine flight was awesome. Relaxed fine dining at it's best, we have already re-booked.
Amazing staff, nice and relaxed atmosphere and incredible food! Keep doing what your doing. We will be back
