We celebrated our company anniversary here and thought the service and food was excellent. We had a large group and everyone was very impressed by how quickly all our food was served at each course and how good the food was considering such a large group. I have and will continue to recommend The White Horse as a place to host a large party. Thank you.
Absolutely delicious food and a great drink selection – introduced me to a non-alcoholic spirit that tasted just like a gin and tonic. Amazing! The environment is lovely and the staff are really friendly. Highly recommended.
We have been to eat at the White Horse three times and although the food is good the service has always been really slow to non existent.
Very pleasant atmosphere, served well and an enjoyable meal with a Tring brewery bear for me. Thanks.
Service was for the second visit terrible. This was a table of 8 reservation for a birthday. Small things missed like offering a wine list, telling us what the soup of the day was, informing us that they were out of a certain starter until we tried to place the order. Starters took nearly an hour to come with no apology. Mains took a while too & when they came no cutlery was already laid on the table ready. Had to ask for condiments about 7 times to different waiting staff & we had all nearly finished our entire meal when one measly spoonful of mustard arrived at the table. Not one member of staff explained at any stage despite is asking when the food would arrive etc. They returned saying it's coming now but with no apology or explanation. We had to call the manger over mid main meal. He did apologise but honestly did not feel is sincere enough given the circumstances. He did however take £35 off our bill & give the birthday boy a glass of free fizz which a nice touch but did not repreave all the previous misgivings. Was thinking of bringing my family here for Christmas lunch but now will not take the risk. Lovely place, decor lovely, food lovely but service shocking & ive been here half a dozen times now at different times of day & never been impressed with it.
Excellent food and service, especially from the young foreign waitress who was attentive and shared a joke or two. We had a great time and look forward to returning.
perfect - staff brilliant, so helpful
Food was average some plates better than others. The service was dreadful, so bad that it turned into a joke !!! Shame because beautiful pub great setting could be a gem !!! And local to most of the party.
Last time i came here it was closed!! What a good job. Place has been refurbed beautifully. Food was lovely, service was great and was a lovely warm night so sat outside for a drink as well. Good work owners, i will definately be coming back
The setting is lovely; however your food and service are not up to scratch. Too many very young staff with not enough guidance. Starters took nearly 40 minutes to arrive and then main courses appeared almost as soon as the plates had been cleared!
We preordered our menu as we had a large party of 12. We were seated at 5:30. Drinks orders took ages to come out and our starters all come out at different times. We had to ask several times where the missibgbstarters were? Food was lovely but service was very disappointing.
Thank you to Steven for all his help in organising the meal for my mother and all her friends. The staff were fantastic, the food was great and the atmosphere was lovely in this wonderful setting in Hertingfordbury.
Beautiful setting, a really great job on the refurb it looks beautiful. The glass wear down to the seats is beautiful thought of. The food was excellent - however the waitress doesn’t know the difference between well done and rare beef and seems neither did the chef , both were well done. We didn’t complain though but was a shame. Waitress didn’t offer to check. We we’re seated outside which was nice, waiting a long time to order, no check back, waited to be cleared, then finally a nice young lady was allocated to the area and service was good to finish. However dessert wa supposed to be with vanilla ice cream and came out with chocolate. Will come back but really need to train staff before letting them out, lots of young staff hanging around with no clue. No direction - very poor in terms of service. I’ve ran pubs and restaurant and now In hotels so u suppose I notice more . But no personality to any of them.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and polite but the service was quite slow and the restaurant wasn’t full. We were sat outside and waited about 15 minutes before our drinks came and the next round of drinks took about the same. Everything else was great! Food was delicious and plenty of veggie options. Decor lovely too. Will be back!
As much as I wanted to write a glowing review, I’m afraid I couldn’t. A few things I was unhappy about. Ordering three different drinks; two of them you didn’t have and one of them you’d run out of raspberries. This should have been stated right away. Our starters turned up before the table water even though that was ordered first. My steak was not cooked rare how I asked. One waitress kept calling me sweetie, cherub or some other term that I don’t expect from someone who isn’t even old enough to vote. The place looked amazing inside the refurb is superb. Prices were great and my partners food & drink were excellent which was the main thing. I did appreciate the 50% discount on my steak meal also. Just a shame the few things let me down on this visit. I’m sure it was just a one off and will try again soon I’m sure.
The waiting staff were excellent, food delicious and decor is lovely. Really enjoyed our Father's Day meal.
Great Food Great Service lovely Atmosphere
you were terribly under staffed we had to wait ages for everything and i felt the poor staff you had were working so hard to try and do a good service but it was impossible. That is the only thing that let the night down. Such a shame.
We were really disappointed. The decor is lovely and our waitress was nice but we did not get the olives we ordered and it was difficult to find someone when we wanted to pay. The food was not great - the super food salad was very tasteless. The fish dishes were fine. We were amazed you had no herb teas - not even mint. 6 ladies who said they would not come back. I was disappointed as I come last year and the food was better then
Amazing food and service
Superb service from everyone - the bar, our waitress - in fact the while team.
We had to wait over one hour to be served starters. Mains took forever to come too. The whole process took 2 hours! Even the waitress asked if we wanted puddings when she cleared our starters’ plates - as we had been there so long!! We could not be bothered to wait for puddings so left after a complaint to the manager who knocked 20% off our bill; but we won’t return. (No avocado in the Caesar salad btw although shown on the menu). Shame as the atmosphere is nice.
Took our confused elderly parents here for lunch. Staff could not have kinder or more helpful, even providing an omelette for Mum when she was not keen on her first choice from the menu. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you very much.
I reviewed on TripAdvisor - positive. 6 of us and everyone enjoyed their meals. The waitress was extremely pleasant and any question we asked that she didn't know the answer to, she went away and checked - a lot better than guessing. My son eats in class restaurants around Europe and he was very positive in his comments.
