About The White Horse Brasserie
Situated at the heart of the historic market town of Romsey, The White Horse Hotel has been a coaching Inn for over 600 years. We offer all that you would expect from a casual drink, or maybe dinner in our restaurant or stay over with Bed and Breakfast, whatever you requirements we will be pleased to help.
Following three years of restoration work the hotel reopened in 2008 and now offers guests 31 individually designed bedrooms and suites with 24 hour room service, an award winning brasserie and the perfect place to host private events.
Afternoon Tea is served daily, at two sittings: 12.00 & 15.30
We stayed here just for one night's bed and breakfast and also enjoyed a nice dinner in the evening. Our room (no: 204) was not especially spacious, but clean, quiet and comfortable with well planned bathroom. The staff were friendly and the food excellent although breakfast just slightly disappointing (smashed avocado on sourdough with poached egg would have been better had avocado been riper, but our grouses were minor). Pricing not especially cheap, but generally fair. All added up to an excellent place to stay - ideal for exploring the lovely old town of Romsey. The hotel doesn't have its own carpark, but there's a public carpark only a minute or two away.
Very slow & poor service
I can’t praise the staff enough. The afternoon tea was delicious and WOW factor for presentation.
Food good, good service - a pleasurable experience. will certainly come again
Service is normally excellent but we had afternoon tea and we had sandwiches but they forgot our cakes. Everyone had cakes apart from us. I asked and they said there coming but they had forgot. I know the service is normally better than that
Afternoon tea was excellent - we all absolutely loved the mince pie cheesecake! Will definitely recommend to everyone we know :)
Excellent afternoon tea!
We all really enjoyed our dinning experience at the White Horse, very chilled atmosphere, quality food and service was excellent. Steve Wilkinson
Have had lunch and had evening meal many times at the White Horse unfortunately this time we were all disappointed with the service such as glasses left on the table not used and empty bottles left on table leaving no room for main course and the food was a not as we would have expected.
fantastic food, bar a bit tatty. Service in restaurant amazing, bar understaffed. Food - just so good.
First time we had done breakfast at the White Horse. Food was good value for money and the service was excellent. Definitely do it again.
The passion fruit souffle is one of the best desserts i have ever eaten. That alone was the highlight of the trip. The service felt a bit rushed and agreesive. One of our party had sat down less than a minute before she was asked what she wanted from the menu. It did not feel relaxed and at points we felt like we were in the way.
In my opinion, the best restaurant in town for a business lunch/dinner.
None at reception when we arrived had to wait for several minutes. Had booked afternoon tea as a special treat for foreign guests. Nice set up on table, but quality lacking. Sandwiches just ok, tame not much flavour. Scones ok, jam not very nice and the cakes way too sweet and all tasted the same. Very disappointed since I have dined at the restaurant before and really enjoyed it. Not worth the £88 we had to pay with the already added service charge.
Our lunch was absolutely perfect and just what we needed after visiting a beloved elderly relative who is very ill. As a sufferer of coeliac disease, I particularly appreciated all the delicious gluten-free choices on the menu. The minted pea and broad bean risotto was the best risotto I have ever eaten. Kind and friendly service. Nothing was too much trouble :)
You need to try & attract some younger people, not kids late thirties early forties.
Lovely location and dining rooms, a very pleasant place to eat
One of the best restaurant meals my companion and I have had -- very enjoyable.
Our second time dining here, and the food and drink was just as nice as the first time. The service was a little hit & miss - friendly staff but we had to chase up drinks, and there was an extra line on our bill by mistake. Although it's a nicely appointed restaurant, there were some people there who were dressed in sportswear / very casual clothes which spoiled the atmosphere a bit.
Food - excellent Ambience - excellent Service - began well but tapered off as restaurant became more busy. We had to abandon coffee as after a 15 minute wait nobody came to clear our table and ask us if we would like anything else. Needs improvement !
The evening was a good one but the service when we arrived was appalling. We were not given Menus and had to ask and were ignored for some time both at the bar and when sat down awaiting someone to take our order for dinner. Food was excellent but service poor bearing in mind you add 10% gratuity automatically!
Dinner: Great somelier, very affable. Also great staff in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. Also one other minor thing - was a bit strange having pop music playing whilst eating a 7-course tasting menu with somelier wines - wasn't great for the overall dining experience. Maybe review restaurant soundtracks for the post 8pm adult dinner watershed? The English of staff in other parts of the hotel wasn't always great so had a couple of confused situations re booking etc. Think the first impression upon checking in could be a bit warmer at reception. Overall a very nice experience though - the junior suite was a great size and good value for money and the atmosphere in the whole place was good - we'll definitely come back.
Food/Drink over-priced. Gratuity should be discretionary not automatically added. Loud children on adjoining table spoiled the atmosphere.
this was brilliant
