About The White Hart
Nestled in the heart of the pretty village of Nettlebed and close to Henley and Marlow. The White Hart is a stylish and comfortable country inn that dates back to the 14th Century and still retains a traditional charm.
Unfortunately not up to the standard of the crown which is where we usually go. Didn’t provide us with menus, then when asked for them, she couldn’t find the children’s ones, so had to google their menu... Then forgot my starter, drinks weren’t forthcoming throughout, and then forgot my coffee at dessert time (only 4 of us). Wife ordered steak, got served with no potato side, so she queried it with them, to which she said they were extra but she’ll provide them for free due to the hassle...when the bill arrives they’d charged for the chips?!. Looking at the menu the steak comes with side of chips/mash etc included, so again had to query it. Had to ask for cutlery for each course as well, and got served Prosecco in a large bottom wine glass, so overall not impressed. Given all the above was surprised when she then asked if we wanted to leave a tip, which made me feel a bit awkward that she was so oblivious to the whole bad service thing. This wasn’t a great treat for Mother’s Day and won’t go there again. Will stick with the Crown as much better and this place is letting the brand down tbh, which is a real shame
We have eaten at the White Hart many times over the years and always regarded it as a solid, no risk option with good steaks. Sadly we had a really disappointing evening. Service was really poor and inattentive, steaks tasteless and/or too sinewy to cut or chew and even a bottle of Prosecco was served warm. It was explained that all the staff were new, both waiters and chefs, but the lack of training was obvious. We really didn’t want to have to complain as doing so tends to ruin the evening but we felt there was no option. Let’s hope that this is a dip and standards will quickly return to previous levels - they better had! The manager was apologetic and we appreciated that he didn’t charge us for the food but we would rather have had an enjoyable and relaxed evening.
Very nice environment, service and food
We stayed for the weekend and enjoyed all aspects.
Enjoyable dining experience
Another great meal at the White Hart.
Excellent service and delicious food.
Good food. Very quiet.
Probably the best steak I’ve ever had!
Very enjoyable stay. Lovely suite. The staff were very friendly, helpful and the service was excellent.
We arrived early and ordered coffees. I had to return my cappuccino which was lukewarm. It was soon reheated to perfection. Fraser and the team behind the bar were good and fun to deal with. We had the Sunday carvery. I'm a vegetarian and asked about the options. They mentioned a nut roast (didn't see it on the menu) and the wait time was 15-20 minutes so I let that go. I had a veggie only carvery but wasn't offered a discount of any kind, which would have been a good gesture. We went to the lounge for drinks and to play games and eat a big birthday cake. Again, the team looked after us very well indeed. It could have been 5 stars all around but for the nut roast and lukewarm drink. We will be back.
The only comment I would make is that the food at the Sunday lunch carvery could have been warmer, otherwise smashing! I will be back.
We had the carvery and the food was cold!!
food was a little expensive, but the service is great
Good meal, fair choice, reasonable prices.
food was fine. however the room was cool and drafty by the windows. The fire was not lit and the radiators were not working.
Very slow to clear dessert plates, both other than that everything was excellent.
Hi - we were a bit disappointed with our experience recently at The White Hart. I would say that the food was definitely mediocre. My husband ordered the duck which looked and tasted very dry. He did mention this at the end when the waiter asked how our meal was but there wasn't any response to what he had said. Three of us had banoffee pie for dessert which, to looked very amateurish and had had a huge amount of "squirty" cream added on top to hide the very small amount of actual pie that was there! The starter of scotch egg which we all had was quite nice and the wine was good. Its a shame as its a nice looking pub inside and in a convenient place where there aren't many other options around. I think you need to up your game if you want repeat business.
Super restaurant , un très bon moment
the food was pretty poor and we had to ask for the fire to be lit.
An excellent meal and service as always
Great carvary - all meat cooked to perfection and tasty vegetables too. A little lacking in atmosphere for a Sunday afternoon in the lead up to Christmas
Good breakfast and very prompt service.
Excellent staff, great service, lovely accommodation and very tasty food with an extensive menu
Sunday Lunch. Food was good huge portions, only let down was the Yorkshire puddings a bit soggy. Not the cheapest of Sunday lunches Main dining room is a bit morgue like lacking atmosphere
