A traditional British inn with 14 individually designed bedrooms, roaring fires in winter, heavenly gardens in summer and delicious pub food all year round.
Our menus are all about great quality, locally sourced, simple rustic food. Wherever possible we use local producers, supporting rare heritage breeds and farmers that care about what they’re doing.
From 8am every day we serve our guests and locals alike French Press coffees and the finest English breakfast.
We’ve worked side by side with UE Coffee, the only artisan wood-fired coffee roastery in the UK, whose Master Roasters combine their talent and experience to bring out the optimum taste, aroma and colour to create The Lucky Onion’s truly unique and sustainable house blend of beans from Brazil, Costa Rica and India. Cherish each sip at The Wheatsheaf or grab and go with your coffee of choice in one of our biodegradable, takeaways cups.

Great food and service as always, and lovely to make use of the beautiful outdoor area
An excellent meal once again, in a great environment.
Disappointed. Lots of things sold out from the menu, my husband and I did enjoy our main courses but my children’s food was poor - they are fussy eaters and we just asked for plain pasta with peas and carrots. The pasta bowls had a lot of water in(clearly the pasta hadn’t been drained properly ) and the pasta was completely unsalted. The peas were very over boiled and hard and wrinkled. We essentially paid £16 for these 2 poorly done bowls of pasta and an extra charge for the horrible peas.
Had an fabulous weekend break here! Breakfast and Dinner was delicious and service was great. Will definitely make a trip back.
Had a family Sunday Lunch for my wifes birthday. Pub is, time wise, halfway between family locations and will definitely use again.Staff where very welcoming and friendly. Food was excellent and the staff where very conscientious about a member of the group with food allergies. Wine good. Had a very good relaxing time. Only draw back is lack of parking, you can end up parking quite away away.
Excellent all round. Pie was especially good.
Really lovely setting and friendly and efficient staff. The food was excellent and we had a nice time.
We had an amazing time from the minute we arrived... The food, room, facility and service were impeccable! Thank you!
Amazing food, was perfect for my boyfriend's birthday meal. The wine was incredible and it was a beautiful building. Would definitely come back!
My favourite pub, never fails to impress
Possibly the best roast dinner ever
An enjoyable evening
Rooms were too hot and even though the beds were super comfortable the temperature of the room was unbearable even with the window open.
Good service, only problem - the car park was full - a good sign!?
Lovely Mother’s Day lunch, would recommend to friends and family and will return one day.
Very rarely am I impressed by pub roasts (there's always something I think I could have done better at home!) but everything on our plates on the Wheatsheaf was divine! If we lived closer we'd be there every Sunday - in fact I'm not sure the 50 miles will stop us becoming regulars...
Lovely atmospheric pub but I was let down by the food. We ordered the roast which was accompanied by a really impressive number of sides. However, the nut roast was too packed (almost claggy) and the yorkshire pudding was cold by the time it arrived.
Best three course meal both of us have eaten in many years. We each chose entirely different meals and were totally satisfied.
This is the second time we have been to the Wheatsheaf and we were not disappointed. The Sunday lunch was excellent as was the service. The only slight gripe is that the seating is quite pinched. The tables are very close together making it difficult to get in and out of the seats, and aware that conversation is overheard.
Beautiful pub with a lovely decor and atmosphere. Food was absolutely brilliant as was the wine however, this was all let down by the poor service! Was sat at the table for atleast 30mins before our drinks arrived. One starter was served to the wrong table so we had to wait for one guest to get theres. Asked two times for a drink during the meal which took over half an hour to come. Had to ask three times for the bill, twice of those times we had to go and search for staff, they then charged us for the additional drink which didn't arrive. We then asked for the optional 12.5% tip to be removed as quite frankly the service level didn't warrant that large a tip. Such a shame as great food and atmosphere, just need better staff who understand customer service!
We visited to celebrate my partners birthday. Everything was lovely and the food amazing but I was disappointed the birthday was not acknowledged. I did advise the person who called to check our attendance and she noted that she would make a note.
Excellent lemon sole And oysters
Service was very slow and we sent the bill back twice for correction.
Exceptional food, great service, very friendly staff, great atmosphere.
Great Location. Staff always friendly. Food always delicious.
