A traditional British inn with 14 individually designed bedrooms, roaring fires in winter, heavenly gardens in summer and delicious pub food all year round.
Our menus are all about great quality, locally sourced, simple rustic food. Wherever possible we use local producers, supporting rare heritage breeds and farmers that care about what they’re doing.
From 8am every day we serve our guests and locals alike French Press coffees and the finest English breakfast.
We’ve worked side by side with UE Coffee, the only artisan wood-fired coffee roastery in the UK, whose Master Roasters combine their talent and experience to bring out the optimum taste, aroma and colour to create The Lucky Onion’s truly unique and sustainable house blend of beans from Brazil, Costa Rica and India. Cherish each sip at The Wheatsheaf or grab and go with your coffee of choice in one of our biodegradable, takeaways cups.

Lovely room, welcoming staff and fantastic food. We had a great stay!
Liver and bacon to die for, excellent food in rustic surroundings.
Cleverly gets the pub decor and atmosphere stop on. Food top notch. Always seemed a tad light on staff and relies heavily on key members of staff to keep it ticking over - one newly appeared staff working in the restaurant last night ckearly didn't want to be there and let the overall experience down. Pricing only justified if matched by consistent quality of standards and friendly service. Overall great stay but jury out on justication of pricing if quality of staff let thinks slip.
Delicious food and very good service. Would come back to eat here any time.
It was probably just because it was an exceptionally busy weekend but the service was a bit slow and disjointed. Friendly staff but lots had run out of the dishes we wanted and no one was answering the reception phone for us to order to our rooms. The bedroom wasn't as comfortable as we've had previously - no headboard, no tea or coffee facilities. Still a great place to visit but perhaps not at a weekend
We had a lovely weekend, thanks for everything!
We were thoroughly disappointed by the service received yesterday at the Wheatsheaf, it was truly appalling. As soon as we arrived for Sunday roast, there was no-one to greet us, no where to sit and we were completely ignored. We tried to speak to three different members of staff to inform them that we had arrived and were told on each occasion to just wait in what was a highly offhand manner. We waited 25 minutes to sit down at a dirty table. We had to beckon staff over to order literally everything from the soft drinks to the main meal to the dessert to the bill which came to just over £80. We have really enjoyed visiting both131 and the Tavern, so its a shame that the Wheatsheaf is letting the lucky onion family down so much. Maybe we were just unfortunate, but as a result will not be visiting again.
hello Been a few times for lunch and always good. First for breakfast and overall a very enjoyable experience - weren't in any great rush but food did take a very long time to come and £6 for 3 mini croissants seemed excessive when other bits were good value. Porridge particularly good and good coffee which is always very welcome.
Just the usual great standard we have come to expect from the Lucky Onion group
Lovely atmospheric Inn, lighting perfect - service efficient and friendly, Richard very helpful in assisting us with choosing the wine to accompany our meal. Wasn't our first visit and certainly won't be our last!
Great place!great atmosphere
Fantastic place! Can’t wait to come back.
The staff we exceptional! We were made to feel so welcome. Food was delicious and the bedrooms are gorgeous with lovely quirky touches. Highly recommended.
Amazing stay, will definitely be back!
Amazing roasts, great pub and awesome host!
The food was good, however the service was poor. When we arrived we ordered our food fairly quickly but it took an age for anybody to take our drinks order. Nobody advised us of the specials; in fact we only found out there were any when halfway through our starters we heard the waitress listing the specials for another table. We had to ask for the complimentary bread and also had to ask twice where our wine was (it took 25 minutes to arrive). One waitress was incredibly bubbly but the other spoke to us as though she’d rather be anywhere else. We received dessert menus but then had to wait a further 30 mins for somebody to take our order - in fact another table had to prompt somebody to come and see us. All in all it will be a while before we return. I visited the 131 last week and it feels as though the Lucky Onion Group have got a bit big for their boots.
Excellent everything. Steaks were especially good. We'll be back soon.
I have for many tears coming to your lovely restaurant and i have always had the most wonderful time there. The last visit was really great and the lady Mgr was very quick at helping us in moving table when the noise in the room became a bit to loud !!She was a perfect lady and a great host!! Also the gent behind the bar was most helpful and kind to us ! 5 star all the way
We enjoyed our stay enormously. The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable, the food was delicious and the staff incredibly friendly and helpful.
Fantastic as always.
We were asked to do pre order for party of 14 in private room also £10 per person deposit We did this but it was ignored including potentially fatal allergies of one diner.Service was slow and often innaccurate. We are customers of ten years standing. Not happy.
Service charge...... I only knew when I got home and looked at the bill......!! Why am I paying this charge..? I'm happy to give a tip.... But not this much.... Not happy...
An absolute first class way to spend a Sunday!
