A traditional British inn with 14 individually designed bedrooms, roaring fires in winter, heavenly gardens in summer and delicious pub food all year round.
Our menus are all about great quality, locally sourced, simple rustic food. Wherever possible we use local producers, supporting rare heritage breeds and farmers that care about what they’re doing.
From 8am every day we serve our guests and locals alike French Press coffees and the finest English breakfast.
We’ve worked side by side with UE Coffee, the only artisan wood-fired coffee roastery in the UK, whose Master Roasters combine their talent and experience to bring out the optimum taste, aroma and colour to create The Lucky Onion’s truly unique and sustainable house blend of beans from Brazil, Costa Rica and India. Cherish each sip at The Wheatsheaf or grab and go with your coffee of choice in one of our biodegradable, takeaways cups.

Recommend to anyone! Fantastic food and service always
A wonderful Father's Day lunch in a special place
Great food, service was really good, knowledge of wines and recommendations was great!
Gorgeous as ever. Thanks for putting our party of 6 into the lovely separate room. We had a wonderful time and will return every time we are in the area.
This is my local and over the years it seems to have diminished. It is endlessly short-staffed and the bar was empty of service for over ten minutes. The food can be good and you can be assured of large portions. The private room is quite excellent, which can’ Be said of the wine list.
Evening was lovely and the food delicious. Would recommend to anyone.
The food was excellent and the two waitresses who looked after us were great, even fetching water and biscuits for our dog without being asked! However, the front of house manager seemed to be creating chaos: barking orders, enjoying the sound of her own voice and confusing the waiters and waitresses. When we came to pay there was some confusion about which bill was ours as we had taken our coffee into the garden at the end of the meal. The manager was outstandingly rude about this, telling me that it was our fault because we had left our table without telling anybody. I explained that we had told the waitress and she then went and interviewed the waitress (who I assumed was intimidated into agreeing with her), returned and told me that the waitress had no recollection of this and it was definitely my fault! I had previously been very fond of The Wheatsheaf, but this is one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had and as a result I will not be coming back. To add insult to injury, the customer who paid her bill before me did not have to pay the service charge (steep for a restaurant outside of London at 12.5%) because she was a friend of the manager! I would seriously recommend either some intense training in front of house management, or a new manager.
As always, a brilliant time at The Wheatsheaf. The roast dinner was delicious, impeccable service and lovely atmosphere. Thank you so much to you all!
Was fab evening everything perfect THANK YOU!
We had a lovely meal with old friends. The friendly staff and great food helped make the occasion even more enjoyable. Well done to everyone at the Wheatsheaf
Really nice place to dine outside in the sun during the afternoon. Good service, and good food.
Fabulous place. Very welcoming. A little bit of luxury in the country
Very impressed with quality of food. Not cheapest pub in area but, for example, you could pay £2 less and get a ropey roast. So on balance I'd say good value for money. I particularly enjoyed the tuna linguine (as did my wife) and we would very much like the recipe! The tuna tasted like it was cerviche cooking in lime juice and then warmed through in the pasta. We will be back and well done to all. Best, Jamie
Lovely menu and food and a warming atmosphere
Lovely steaks. Nice experience. Very quiet that night, which effected the atmosphere. Drinks prices always bump the cost up in The Wheatsheaf. Food is good value though.
Came with 6 people on Friday night I was worried because I had heard a few negative comments. Didn't have to bother had a great night everyone loved everything thank you
Dinner very good. Breakfast very good food but service slow and poor- fruit plate not replenished although only 9 am and breakfast was until 10 am. Had to ask for more bowls and plates, tables not cleared, juice not topped up on sideboard until asked, took ages to take our order! Could clearly do with more staff!
A great 'local pub' atmosphere (being one of only two establishments in the village). Excellent food and attentive service.
Great service and atmosphere
The food was good although my steak was not medium. The wait staff was very busy and did not pay much attention to us until our food was finished. We were charge a gratuity of almost 15 percent which I believe should be left up to the customer.
Booked birthday lunch for 4 on bank holiday Monday - food was fabulous, restaurant lovely but service unacceptably slow. We waited almost an hour between our starter and main course. This was acknowledged by the staff but there was nothing in the way of an apology or offer of a complimentary drink , we were just told that they were exceptionally busy. Get more staff! Such a shame and it spoilt the whole experience
Excellent service and food, Shame the full Menu wasn’t available.
It's now the 3rd time in a row that I've been disappointed and it used to be so good . I wouldn't recommend it any more . Very slow service everytime , 3/4 hour to get your drink . Food , so many things were off the menu already and we arrived at 1.00 . Food too salty to eat . Crossing it off my list , reluctantly .
Excellent meal. The young guy on the front bar when we first arrived was particularly hospitable and welcoming.
Fantastic dining experience. Delicious food, beautiful atmosphere and excellent staff!
