Fabulous evening. Food was excellent. Lovely chilled Sunday evening. The only disappointment was that we had to ask for the table to be cleaned and we then had to further remind the server to clean the chairs including the arms - not as safety conscious as it should be. Otherwise, service was super friendly.
Wonderful lazy lunch and great to see you were busy. We will be back!!
Such an amazing evening, food was delicious and service impeccable. Such a friendly team. We loved it, thank you.
We arrived for our booking on Tuesday 4th August. The ballon company we’re waiting to place the balloons on the table as a surprise for my partners 40th birthday. The balloon company called me to say I didn’t have a reservation. When I arrived they put us on a table where we couldn’t be seen and were forgotten about. The drinks they got wrong, after an hour of waiting they bought the wrong starters and the mains took another hour after the correct starters were received. To top it off they added the wrong starters to the food bill and also a discretionary 12.5% to which I refused to pay. The food was actually lovely but the service was appalling and a complete disaster which was supposed to be a lovely surprise for my partner.
Really terrific Sunday lunch. Appreciate that they may be trying to finesse staffing levels vs customers but we felt somewhat ignored for a good 20minute stretch at the end of our meal. Incredible how good some restaurant staff are at literally looking through you. There must be a name for this but we had a good dose of that before having to step up and ask for things ourselves at the bar, which we shouldn't really be having to do. This won't put me off revisiting because the food / kitchen is outstanding but I will make sure I leave a lot more time for appointments afterwards.
Service was awful. We were taken to a table and nobody came to us.. after 20 minutes we stood up and left. Terrible service considering staff were stood around the bar talking.
Food amazing. Service friendly but very slow. However due to Covid 19- i would have liked to have seen a higher level of sanitising and hygiene and food servers to be wearing masks and gloves etc.
Unfortunately it was an incredibly busy evening but they were short-staffed so the service was really slow. But the food was worth waiting for, and we were happy to sit and relax in the sunshine in the gorgeous garden!
lovely lunch - pork belly was delightful!
Always such a pleasure to visit - beautiful setting, helpful friendly staff and delicious food. We’ll be back!
It would be nice to see more veggie main options. The only option was romanesco - plate of which has limited appeal!! I ended up having a starter plus a side salad. Tasted great but other places manage a choice of 2 or 3 for veggies/vegans - so why not The Wheatsheaf? Nice smiley helpful staff.
Stayed in suite 1 for a Sunday sleepover, the room was stunning with a fabulous huge bathroom. Had to ask for the arrival champagne, the guy who checked us in was rather aloof almost disinterested, this was a shame as the other staff members we encountered were nice. No drink making facilities in the room which is just odd, you have a late check out and just want to chill out but can’t have a coffee, not even an option for service from the bar - a bottle of water doesn’t really cut it. Other hotels during social distancing still offer this in room service. A delivery van parked under our window with the engine running before 7am....not the type of wake up call I was expecting. Had a lovely afternoon out in the garden and the food was good but not sure I’d be back to stay the night again.
We made a reservation for 2.30 as we were staying here for a few nights. We arrived just after 2 to be told our table was ready but room wasn’t (which we expected) we were shown to our table and bought some tap water over. We waited a while until the menus were delivered to us and cutlery was placed on the table. The lady was lovely and polite and apologised for the wait. We ordered prawns and the tomatoes along with a chicken and a pork roast. The prawns were delivered along with water with lemon finger bowl. The mozzarella and tomatoes looked lovely, however didn’t taste of a lot. We waited a while before our plates were cleared and our mains were bought out before our starters had been cleared away. The vegetables came in a small bowl including cauliflower cheese, beans and cabbage. The roasts were hot however trying to find someone to ask for extra gravy was crazy! I understand restaurants are struggling however this does not mean staff should be working and buzzing around like a fly to serve everyone. By the time I’d asked for extra gravy I’d nearly eaten my roast. The meat was of good quality and nice to receive a Yorkshire with the chicken. The roast potatoes were nice too just had abit to much pepper for my liking. If you ask for any extra vegetables you get charged for these, so be aware! Again we waited a while for our plates to be cleared due to the poor lady working by herself in the inside area with all tables taken. She came over and offered us the dessert menu we declined due to being to full From the roasts. The lady knew we was staying so explained we could charge to our room which we choose to do, and she bought our key over and explained were to go. It all like poor lady was rushing around trying to do everything. Overall a nice meal in lovely surroundings however more staff is required. The price is expensive for what we received, so do feel it is overpriced.
Really enjoyed our meal and would definitely come back again. Did a great job given the current situation with COVID. Comes highly recommend.
The staff were incredibly helpful and the food was excellent. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and we enjoyed pre-drinks in the lovely garden and cocktails after dinner in the lounge. Thank you for a fabulous evening.
Fantastic Sunday lunch one of the best for Many years.
Excellent food with equally good service.Would definitely return.
Lovely food and really friendly, helpful staff. All tables well spaced for safety, and beautiful large outside eating area.
I am so glad my son recommended the Wheatsheaf to us. A beautiful old building with really friendly staff and some of the best food I have had in a long time. In fact, the calves liver I had for dinner was the best I have ever had, anywhere!
Service slow ordered water for table didn’t come and ordered a salad which didn’t come... for the price poor but lovely venue a shame.
Really appreciated being given a private table/room due to being pregnant, really helpful with Covid. Thank you!
Fantastic food and accommodation in a beautiful setting.
Best pub in Gloucestershire
Bit of a mixed bag unfortunately for our visit... it wasn’t particularly busy, but the service was fairly slow (taking a long time to get our drinks and order another). Food was good, but we ordered roasts, then only to be told that both of what we’d ordered had run out. Starters were great, but mains were a little bit lacking (gravy and roast potatoes in particular). Everyone was polite and overly it was ok, but think we won’t take a drive over again as we have better options in Cheltenham.
