Our menus are all about great quality, locally sourced, simple rustic food. Wherever possible we use local producers, supporting rare heritage breeds and farmers that care about what they’re doing.
From 8am every day we serve our guests and locals alike French Press coffees and the finest English breakfast.
We’ve worked side by side with UE Coffee, the only artisan wood-fired coffee roastery in the UK, whose Master Roasters combine their talent and experience to bring out the optimum taste, aroma and colour to create The Lucky Onion’s truly unique and sustainable house blend of beans from Brazil, Costa Rica and India. Lovely meal in great setting
Hi - We unfortunately had a pretty awful time. We asked for 4 full breakfasts - three without black pudding - all 4 arrived with black pudding and the waiting staff couldnt get this right - they suggetsed we leave it on the plate - this was not acceptable to one of our party - so eventually it was taken off. We ordered two peppermint tea. WHich arrived after the food was nearly finished and there were 8 mint leaves to make two cups of tea - it looked as though t hese ha been picked from the garen as there was mud in the cups - the tea was so weak we sne it back. It then was sent again in a pot for one, and third time it came in pot for two with more mint in yet was still undrinkable. this arrived after we had finished breakfast. Half way through the meal the room was engulffed in smoke as the chimney wnet wrong - no apologies and the front doo was left open freezing our table. The plates were left on the table for over 15 minutes after we finished and we left with plates etc still on the table. The waiter knocked the cost of one breakfast and the tea from the bill - although we would much have preferred a decent breakfast. My girlfiend and I had been staying in Lower Slaughter where the breakfast and service was outstsanding and we will return there in future. The waiter explined that the were slow because customers had been up late the night before - I dont care - really upsetting as Wheatsheaf has long been a favourite of mine bnoth for personal (sister leaves in northleach) and business (head office in cheltenham) but I think lower slaughter will be used more frequently
We were looked after amazingly well. We were a big group so quite chaotic, but the service was exceptional and the food delicious. Well done!
Another fantastic meal on my favourite table .. Service was impeccable.
Good menu choice. Friendly staff. Nice touch to put fizz in old fashioned coupe glasses!
Satisfied with the food and friendly staff, we shall return on Boxing Day !
We had a wonderful time for our client Christmas meal. The food, atmosphere and service were lovely. As soon as we arrived, the function room was beautifully set up for us, which made it so cosy and festive. The service was really fast and friendly and we all had a fantastic time. Thank you all so much!
Lovely country pub. Casual ( we can take our dog! ) but excellent food and service. Love it.
We thought the Liver was excellent
We booked for Sunday lunch at 1.15. The restaurant was packed and to wait for our table. Service was slow &disjointed. Basically 11/2 hours is too tight for time in a very busy restaurant. Shame as the food was very good.
We had such a lovely Sunday Lunch, the food was delicious, the absence warm and cheerful. Thank you so much.
A problem with our booking was easily overcome - despite the restaurant looking very full - and we had a great night.
Atmosphere rated at three stars because there were only a couple of tables booked. I’m sure on a busy evening the atmosphere would be great!
Fabulous food and great service - many thanks!
We had a fantastic evening, the staff were very friendly and lots of fun, the food was excellent and the atmosphere perfect. We will definitely be back.
Really good food and atmosphere. Service rocked too
It was our second visit and on this occasion, I also brought my parents. Everyone was very impressed with the food quality and service. However the first time we came, we paid by card and left large tip, not realising service has been added on. No one mentioned this to us. Double tipping is a shameful act for any establishment. Customers should be made fully aware that service charges are being added to the bill and where a customer clearly is providing an additional tip, it should be highlighted to them. It did sour our visit, as I felt cheated. Such a shame.
Wonderful food lovely staff very friendly atmosphere
A very tasty meal , beautifully presented and served by very efficient and friendly staff
Lovely time and enjoyed the log fire as well as the food and great welcome
We always love staying here and would certainly come back. Our only issue (and one we have had on a previous stay) is that it was absolutely boiling all night - we had our radiator off and window wide open all night (and a cold night outside it was!) but still neither of us slept well. Unfortunately all of the pipes running around the room were hot and the atmosphere stifling. So sad not to wake up as refreshed as we would have liked! Also £5.00 for a single measure of gin with an extra £2.75 for tonic made us think twice (and decline) another of these. Wine selection excellent and much better value however. Food always amazing and good vegetarian selection, the whole stay feels very luxurious. Dog friendly also a big hit.
Perfect for an anniversary
Amazing food . Knowledgeable staff who were very friendly
