A traditional British inn with 14 individually designed bedrooms, roaring fires in winter, heavenly gardens in summer and delicious pub food all year round.
Our menus are all about great quality, locally sourced, simple rustic food. Wherever possible we use local producers, supporting rare heritage breeds and farmers that care about what they’re doing.
From 8am every day we serve our guests and locals alike French Press coffees and the finest English breakfast.
We’ve worked side by side with UE Coffee, the only artisan wood-fired coffee roastery in the UK, whose Master Roasters combine their talent and experience to bring out the optimum taste, aroma and colour to create The Lucky Onion’s truly unique and sustainable house blend of beans from Brazil, Costa Rica and India. Cherish each sip at The Wheatsheaf or grab and go with your coffee of choice in one of our biodegradable, takeaways cups.

Fabulous stay! Would definitely come back! Absolutely loved it
We made a reservation some time ago for 4 people, we wanted a later time but we're told we had to go at 7.15, only to arrive on time & still waiting half an hour later to go to our table, point being we could have come the time we actually wanted, only got to our table when we did because we mentioned it. We were put in a small room in the back with some people on one other table, our table was set for six & we were four, behind was a table obviously set for a birthday party, big balloons etc, why not!!!!!! The only trouble being the other table left & we were in there with the noisiest people on the planet, we could not even talk the four of us it was impossible to hear anything but the birthday bash 6 inches behind us. To say it ruined our evening is an under statement, we do like a good party ourselves but in the correct circumstances!!!!!!
We have stayed with you on three previous occasions and each time it has been wonderful. So much so that on this occasion I booked the Sunday Sleepover package as a birthday gift for my sister. My sister and her husband thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to return in the very near future! Thanks so much.
I have dined here often over the years, and it’s all ways been a pleasure,in fact I’ve booked a table next month, long may it continue.
We reserved a table for family Sunday lunch. Food and service was excellent and everybody commented how much they enjoyed lunch. Great job!
We had such an enjoyable stay at your hotel, our room was very luxurious and clean. The food and beverage was excellent and loved the very friendly and helpful staff, will definitely be visiting again in the future
Lovely food! Really enjoyed our visit here and would definitely return
A Great experience
Good and varied menu for Sunday lunchtime. Staff were friendly and service good. Food was excellent and we really enjoyed our lunch. We will certainly be back.
Party of 7 in with 3 hungry teenagers. The online menu for lunch was completely different than we were offered. Why? This was a problem as there was nothing on the menu suitable for them. Luckily the bar could offer burgers to satisfy the boys. But only that?!? Service was pleasant but missed the details....no condiments offered, no offer of whether we wanted any extras, had to ask so many times to get attention from the serving staff. Portions tiny for main courses albeit when I complained they bought some more food out so fair enough. Not very impressive which is a shame as I have been many times before. The Wheatsheaf was chosen as the original choice was the Wild Duck (part of the Lucky Onion Group) and that is still closed for refurbishment. Lovely venue though.......will be back again so hoping things improve by then. AR
In spite of having a menu of long standing, the quality of cooking remains high and the service is efficient and friendly.
I was really disappointed with our meal at The Wheatsheaf. First of all we had to awkwardly wait 5 minutes to be seated. I am pregnant so asked if the linguine with Tuna came cooked through or like a steak - the waiter confirmed it was cooked through but when it arrived it was a rare tuna steak so I had to reorder my main...when it arrived the rest of the table had finished their food so I had to eat on my own. There was also a 40 minute wait between the starters and main courses - so a good hour between my starter and main course. The non alcoholic gin came as a brown colour (we wanted the seedlip gin so I feel should have been warned) and the half pint of ale we ordered came flat. The whole meal was extortionately priced for the quality of food and service and overall I was seriously disappointed. I was offered no compensation for having to eat my main course after everyone else so had to ask for it. When you charge £22 for a main course with no sides you have to be doing better than this.
This was our second night eating st The Wheatsheaf and we had a good and enjoyable meal.
A little disappointed by our rib eye steaks, particularly the oily dressing on the greens. Forgot to order a sauce, and not prompted by our server. Starters were good.
lovely stay, spacious room, dinner and breakfast was very good! friendly staff, highly recommended.
We spent two weeks in the United Kingdom and our dinner at the Wheatsleaf Inn was our favorite. Great restaurant. Great service. Great atmosphere. We loved everything about it.
A fabulous experience We all loved it!
This lovely old pub is exactly as described on the website...... The food is delicious and the service outstanding.
Excellent meal. Enjoyed by all. Service was wonderful.
Brilliant service, delicious food, great atmosphere. I return again and again.
We came for lunch on Sunday 25th August and had a lovely time. Great service from Jerry (that's what the receipt said his name was) and epic food all around. Our full table of 5 had no complaints - some even said best roast they've had!
Awful experience service was slow and disorganised it was for a special occasion and was quite upset by the whole experience. Food was average and not fitting of the prices was most disappointed and so was my family couldn’t wait to leave
I love coming to the Wheatsheaf, we pop in every now and then as we live close by. I booked a Sunday lunch as a treat for my other half as he has been working flat out. There was no service at all. I had to get up every time I wanted another drink as no one was around. The drinks took about 15 mins to come every time, and the old glasses were never taken away. in total a starter and a main took 2 hours.
Great way to spend the Bank Holiday, garden was buzzing, great music and atmosphere. It was all hands on deck and the staff seemed to enjoy working. We had a nice stay and would visit again but a few points to mention... We booked on the "Sunny Strolls" offer which included a post walk "Chateaubriand" however when we got to dinner it wasn't on the menu and the staff (including Chef) hadn't heard of the offer! Late check out (1pm) was also part of the deal. We took advantage and went to breakfast at 9.30am (still 30 minutes until the end of breakfast) but there was no pastries, bread or fruit left that had no intention of being replenished either.
Service rather slow, but gave us free drinks to compensate
