About The Wheatsheaf Pub & Kitchen
The Wheatsheaf has recently been taken over by new management, and has undergone a refurbishment and overhaul of its menus.
We now offer a welcoming and warm traditional pub environment with home cooked quality food and a wide range of great beers, ales, wines and spirits.
Our menu is made up of freshly prepared local fare.
Also our Sunday roast is not to be missed.
2nd visit in recent weeks, the first visit couldn't be faulted. This time had a steak which was ok , came accompanied by standard tomato, onion rings and A mushroom (yes only one, a little stingy I feell as for pub grub it isn't cheap). We ordered a bottle of white wine which was served in an ice bucket but unfortunately had not been pre-chilled so was warm. When we told the staff, more ice was added to the bucket but surely there should be bottles stored in the fridge so they are already cold on serving. My other concern was that there was no restriction on numbers entering the toilets. Most other venues restrict to one in, one out. I witnessed 3 people followed by 2 kids entering in quick succession. Generally I would recommend the Wheatsheaf, which has seen a big improvement but in these uncertain times they need to get the detail right. Don't let us down, we don't want to witness this lovely pub being bulldozed for a housing development.!
Would definitely return
Enjoyable visit, even with Covid restrictions!
Our first visit here. Really great value, lovely Sunday roasts and kid’s meals and we were sat in a great seat where we could see our kids playing on the great climbing frame.
Only gave 3 stars for atmosphere - No fault of the pub. Come on locals support your local pub well worth a visit you won't be disappointed.
Great local amenity
I wish you every success and know how difficult it is trying to establish your reputation in this climate. I am visiting again very soon and I am very happy with your new guise. Sadly we were the only people in so it was a bit empty but it was mid afternoon!
What an improvement. Pub spotless, great service and lovely food. Well done. We'll be back..
Our 3rd visit haven't been disappointed yet. Will definitely be back.
Very clean. Good service. Food was excellent. Cheeseboard was particularly impressive!
Absolutely loved our lunch, food drink and service was fantastic! We felt very safe too! We enjoyed it so much we came back today (17/9/20) for dinner, food was just as yummy. Thank you to all the staff for our great experiences so far, we will definitely be back!!
We went because we were visiting Ness Gardens and like the idea of a Sunday Roast. The food was well presented and tasted delicious. I think there might have been a few challenges as they were under new management. I heard a couple of shouts of "we have run out" but that happens. I would have preferred green beans to Broccoli and we already had Cauli. Also the Carrot and Cauli portion was a bit "light", which was a shame as what we had was excellent. For me if they had got that right with a Pint of Thwaites it was worth a 5* but 4* is about right.
Food was very good, very enjoyable and great service Pricey for a family of 5 but I feel the standard of food was high so worth it. Would definitely go back
Excellent. Proper home made food and good service
It’s such a lovely place. Staff are really friendly but unfortunately on this particular visit the service was insanely slow bearing in mind it was not busy. I don’t understand why it took so long to serve each customer. Also in this occasion I had 2 different ales and they were both pretty grim. We did have a nice visit just a shame really.
A huge improvement on what was there before! So excited about how the venue will develop.
Thank you for rescuing our local. Great refurb, food and drinks. We've been twice in the last 8 days and tried a cross section of the menu and I must say we're impressed. Keep up the good work!
Disappointed that there were no roast dinners left at 5pm.
Great to see this pub being cared for after years of neglect. The food was excellent and great value for money. The garden area is looking so much better. We are fortunate to have this place on our doorstep.
We had a lovely meal and found Kyla and her team to be very friendly, professional and organised. Food was delicious but I would have preferred a more expensive wine- I appreciate it’s early days! My husband really enjoyed his beer. The pub felt very safe and clean and we will be returning soon. Atmosphere is a little subdued because of COVID but I think we will be frequent visitors. It is very good value for money.
Great food, lovely staff and can see it’s going through a positive refurbishment and renovation. Will be back
Food was lovely! Big improvement on my last visit. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The place was in the process of being redecorated and is starting to look much more modern. I think once this is completed this will be a popular place to visit.
Lovely meal in the newly taken over pub, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff, will be returning 😊
