About The Wayward Pigeon
Designed by award winning Christchurch architects RM Design, this state of the art “local pub” services the suburbs of Rototuna, Chartwell and Queenwood. At a massive 800 square metres, the Pigeon features designated bar, restaurant and function areas as well as a number of well appointed outside areas and balconies with great views of the surrounding area. The bar has a quality wine list and fifteen tap beers including Heineken, Monteith’s and five genuine craft options. The dinner menu has been designed by one of the Waikato’s most awarded chef’s Andrew Clarke and represents the best of New Zealand contemporary dining. There are also a range of delicious bar snacks like burgers, pizzas and the signature Pigeon chicken wings as well as plenty of kids options. The lunch menu has a lighter café style with a number of brunch items and cabinet options too. The Wayward pigeon is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
I heard really good feedback from the food from others who have been here. But I wasn’t satisfied with my meal.
Fantastic meal the build your own pizza for kids is a great fun idea and our server was fantastic
3 of the 5 of us had the Scotch steak but nowhere near as nice as a previous meal we've had there. Last night our steaks were very stringy & not melt in your mouth like our previous visit a few weeks ago. Despite this, we would still go back for another meal while we're in town. We can't believe the Kombucha had sold out.... In both visits!! Service is excellent!
Great food and service
Food was delicious! Couldn't finished the fish n chips, lamb was yum.
Lovely, first time visitors
Absolutely amazing place and the most amazing staff! We had the most lovely waitress who was so kind and friendly, and we had such good service! The food was absolutely delicious and so mouthwatering that we forgot to take pictures before it was in our mouths! We can't wait to visit again!
We felt the pizzas were a bit overpriced. The service was a bit inconsistent (orders not properly taken) perhaps due to a new staff member otherwise an enjoyable evening and meal for daughter's 21st dinner
Very happy will be going back
I was actually really disappointed this time, and I’m a regular. I had the 1kg of mussels and they were over cooked, though this time they were at least bearded (last time they weren’t). They were served in a small pot with a small bowl offered for the shells after - it was too small for the job. Last time, I had a mussel pot with plenty of room. I had to flag down a waitress (the Maître d’?) to get our plates cleared. She took the kids’ plates but not mine. She asked me if we were ready for the kids’ desserts and I confirmed we were, but she never asked if I would like dessert. She served my kids’ desserts a while later, while I still had my dirty plates in front of me. I then asked if I could order dessert and asked for it to be as take out, as my kids were stuck into their desserts already by this time. She queried if I wanted the ice cream with my apple pie and I confirmed I did not, as it would melt on the way home. When she delivered my apple pie (without an apology for forgetting to take my dessert order), it had ice cream inside so I had to quickly eat it at the table. When we came to paying, the girl at the desk was perfunctory but when I came to wish her a good evening, received no reply, which was disappointing, particularly after the issue with desserts. One of the waitresses, a young woman, was lovely. She checked on us during the meal, and apologised for my lack of dessert order, even though she was not at fault. She has great customer service skills. The other ladies, not do much. I normally don’t complain. But tonight’s experience was definitely below par. The restaurant was busy, but I’ve had amazing service at the Pigeon before with even more customers there than there were tonight. It is a favourite of ours but I’m not sure it will continue to be so if we have more experiences like this one.
Meals came out before we even got our drinks, they needed more people behind bar to help out. Whittaker’s chocolate cheesecake was a huge let down couldn’t taste Whittaker’s chocolate at all.
Service and food was amazing
Great food and good service
We had a great waitress with a smile. When we wanted drinks or to pay the bill it was a very long wait. Meals were substantial and delicious
What an amazing venue, we really enjoyed the A+ Food and Service. If only we had a Wayward Pigeon in my hometown of Motueka !!!
We booked at short notice on a Tuesday night. The service was excellent and the food lovely. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Foid was nice but the menu had changed since last time preferred old menu
Lovely food and helpful, cheerful staff - but you really need to do something about the state of your carpet, it makes the place look pretty grimy
Ordered fish & chips. The fish was ok but the chips were dripping in oil. Had to return the chips uneaten. Otherwise the food was ok. The promptness and quality of service were excellent!
Very good, enjoyed the dinner ! Friendly staff aswell
The restaurant was untidy, food on the floor under our table from previous guests, sticky tables, carpet in the restaurant is foul and should be replaced. Meat in burger was raw & menus should be cleaned as they were covered in sticky stained mess. Not a brilliant experience. Disappointed
We were greeted very warmly and were very happy with how Dorothy looked after us. It was an enjoyable first time visit to the restaurant. Thanks :)
Oysters and scallops
Love the new menu and great value.
