About The Waterside Hotel
The Waterside is the "must visit" venue in the family-owned SimpsInns group. The stunning water's edge location in West Kilbride provides panoramic views across the Firth of Clyde out to Arran. Contemporary design, innovative menu choice and wonderful ambiance sets The Waterside apart from the rest.
Choose from our extensive menus as we serve food through the day at The Waterside with something to suit every taste.
Whether you want to start the day with a freshly brewed coffee and newspaper or enjoy a traditional Scottish cooked breakfast, no problem, the choice is yours. Snacks and light bites are available through the day plus full a la carte menu takes you through and into the evening.
At all SimpsInns restaurants, bars and hotels, we pride ourselves on sourcing only the finest local ingredients where possible for our creative dishes and menus.
Had run out of Pinot Grigio. Only other Italian white coats £7.00 more. Only one Rose wine!!!! Need to look at the selection on offer... Too many New Wines and not enough “local” European wines on offer. Someone could have popped up to the local shop and bought some chilled wine from the fridge and offered it as a non-menu item. People on two surrounding tables also tried to order Pinot Grigio. I appreciate it was an exceptionally busy weekend due to weather but there could have been a solution.
Excellent service and quality food. Staff couldnt have been more helpful. Can't wait for our daughter's wedding at this venue in July 2020.
Staff very friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.
Really enjoyed our visit to the The Waterside restaurant. Would highly recommend.
Pleasant atmosphere and tasty food
Service chaotic, staff need training.
Nice friendly restaurant in a nice setting. Excellent food at a reasonable price. Highly recommend on a sunny night to see the sunset over Arran.
Food was very nice however service was poor, waited 15 mins to get drunk order which ended up being taken with food order then starter came before the drinks ! Then when mains came and asked for additional sauces had to wait five mins for them and only gotten them once we asked again. Poor is the best I can give it
Service VERY slow . Had to ask for side plates for Mussel shells and spoon for the broth . Had to ask for coffees and after 25 minutes still no coffee. Just got bill , paid and left. Usually stop for coffee during the day and it’s served nicely . This was the 1st visit for dinner and will probably not be back.
The staff member who was serving us was not very knowledgeable on what was supposed to on offer for the afternoon tea we were in for. While I understand he was a trainee, as indicated on his badge, there didn’t seem to be much support around for him from the other staff. While we did not wish to constantly looked over, there seemed to be nobody around when we were looking for them. Also, the bread on some of the edges of the sandwiches was slightly hard as if it had been left out for too long. This was not the worst experience we have had, by any means, but it did not blow us away either
Had a wonderful 2 night stay at the hotel and would certainly hope to be back. Food and service in restaurant was amazing. First class all round.
Haggis olives arrived for my wife with 2 miniature olives containing no haggis within!? Ended up eating her main meal alone. No apology or compensation offered. Disappointing visit despite having good experiences in the past, view has changed.
Food was beautiful, staff were very friendly and pleasent however we had asked for mayo and they forgot to bring it...twice, then we asked to see the dessert menu and they forgot to bring that to us too and at the end of the meal after asking for a final two drinks at the bar they forgot those too. Asked for loyalty card, filled out the paperwork before we paid the bill then after spending almost £100 asked if we could get our points for that evening and were told no. We loved the surroundings, the food and staff certainly were bright and friendly but we did leave feeling very disappointed with the overall service I'm afraid.
Friendly staff and atmosphere
Pre booked afternoon tea for Mothers Day for daughter, myself and Mother. Order took 40 minutes to arrive at the table which is a tad long for cakes and sandwiches. Food was delicious and server was polite. Brother has booked his wedding here and this was our 1st visit so we had a look around. Venue is beautiful with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff.
We had previously booked a table for 4 for our 'very small' wedding party and arrived about an hour early! The Young Girl on Reception was most helpful and re-arranged our booking on the spot allowing us to take our table straightaway. I was most impressed with this and everything else about our dining experience. It made our special day even more so! Compliments to all your staff. We will certainly be visiting you again when we are up next!
Went for some lunch & would certainly recommend. Food & service were first class.
I have come many times before and really like your venue. However, was very disappointed this time because of the following: 1. Waiting 20 minutes beyond booking time to be seated 2. Terrible table that was really part of bar/waiting area - 2 uneven tables that were off balance joined together - not great for 5 of us. 3. As we were round corner we were often forgotten in terms of service - waited for 1:30 to get to the main meal - around 50 mins between courses! 4. Complained but no recognition of issues in the bill or any further apology 5. Main nice - but sticky toffee pudding was terrible - very dry 5. Cost £110 for 2 kids and 3 adults - not cheap given issues. Certainly won't be back for mothers day.
Went for mother’s day meal on Sunday Starters were nice All four of us didn’t enjoy main courses really disappointing and expensive won’t be coming back
I took my mum for mothers day on Sunday, she was so looking forward to it after recovering from the loss of my brother and my dad in a matter of months, The venue itself is lovely but on arrival our table wasn't ready which is normal and acceptable but we were told to sit and wait at a high level table with very high bar type stools which for an 80yr old is impossible to get up on to sit .there was a wedding on as well and staff were run off there feet ,I waited 20 minutes for a drink at the bar and for our table.once we were seated the food was fine but after every course I had to tell a staff member we were finished after waiting 20minutes .I ordered tea for the 4 of us and 3 of the cups were dirty and had to be replaced ,I am not one for complaining when out dining but the fact my mum was with us and it was her day really did disappoint and angered me .another thing was we were never offered a normal menu just the set mothers day one .alll said and done service was not good enough in my opinion, regards from a dissatisfied Stuart Strachan.
The so called Waiter brought us another Menu because my Mum did not like anything on the Menu. Did not tell us what we could choose from, we choose something that was not available that day because it was a Sunday. so we ordered Fish and Chips with hand made chips, the fish was nice but the chips were more like Massive Potatoe Wedges, in my opinion the Waiter should have said that the chips are massive would you like some normal chips, as my mum is 74 years old and frail, but alas he didn't just wanted to take the order and move on. The drinks came and he spilled the drinks over the table next to us and some went on my Mums Jacket. The dessert Choc fudge cake was ok but crispy on the Bottom. I did bring this all up when I was paying for it but the Girl just said that's what the Fish comes with. Will not be recommending the place or coming back. The couple that got the drinks spilled over them also said they were not happy with their service either.
Food was delicious and waiting staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our meal very much and will definitely be back
Service is very poor.
First visit will definitely be back
