About The Vineyard Hotel Restaurant
I'd been looking forward to this visit since booking it on the day before Guy Fawkes night (5th November 2020). I'd been along to take a walk through the vineyard, since I'd joined the National Trust on 30th November 2020 so I could use the car park at 'Denbies Hillside' beside the Ranmore Road by St Barnabus' Church, the old school and the beech forest around Polesden Lacey. One of the dog walkers who used National Trust car park mentioned that he often saw fallow deer by the 'concrete road'. Turns out there's more than one 'concrete road'. I'd gone into the shop and asked Jo White for permission to film what I hoped might be some deer of maybe a badger down by the lay-by at the roundabout on the A24 main road. A couple of trains and somebody creeping along through the vines to work - but no deer foxes, or badgers. I made a long walk around the perimeter and met a local chap who'd weorked for the railways and lived in Dorking all his wife. He knew all about Madonna an Guy Ritchie living locally. But why would I rebook for a place who can't even send an email with the right message on it .. and even when there's no guests to cater for. Take a look at the website.. this a place that was once great, but has forgotten how it lost it's grandeur and only remembers a 'Disneyland' edition of what it could have been ? Lockdown and pack up is what I'm feeling. My wife's got soaking wet going out to buy a takeaway and we sat miserable enjoying a bed with no breakfast for £ too much - an no saop to wash your hands with ! Brought my OWN Covid mask. Drank the Baccus Sparkling wine which we bought at the shop. A NEVER-TO-BE-FORGOTTEN / NEVER-TO-BE-REPEATED failure.
The hotel upgrade is great with lovely views. Wish I'd brought my walking boots.
I know you are only doing a reduced selection in your restaurant, but as a coeliac there was literally only one item in each course I could have. Luckily, they were the choices I would have picked anyway and they were absolutely delicious.
Lovely location, staff always friendly and very professional. Food was excellent. Table for 1 in a pandemic with social distancing is why I knocked the atmosphere down to 4 stars.
We enjoyed two lovely meals at the Vinyard Restaurant which I would thoroughly recomend. The food was delicious, it was good value for money and the service friendly and attentive. The accompanying wine from the estate was of course superb; I'd recomend staying the night in order to fully partake :)
Food excellent, service friendly and attentive.
It’s a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming, relaxing and charming. Amazing Denbie wines, the food and service were both excellent. The Staff are extremely knowledgeable and make great recommendations. I look forward to my next visit, very soon.
Great experience and stay at denbies! Good value for money and the staff and food were amazing. Thanks for accommodating me and my boyfriend especially after a lockdown! Much needed! :)
First thing the staff were so welcoming from the moment we arrived till when we left the hotel. We enjoyed the wine tasting session , the guide was very entertaining and clearly knowledgable and the vineyard train tour was equally fun and interesting. Food / drinks all good. The only slight is our dinner wasn’t piping hot.. again your staff were accommodating. Breakfast was good too. Room was comfy , too warm but that was our fault we set the radiator to high. Honestly can’t fault the weekend, we had a great time! Thank you.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Good quality food attractively presented.
The best. Great location. Great Staff. Great bedrooms.
Positive points: - lovely location - very friendly staff - great room and super clean Points of improvements: - the person that answers the phone is not friendly and does not make you feel very welcome - the food is good but you would expect more from a place like this.
The restaurant was lovely. Really lovely atmosphere, relaxed, food was great. Nice to be able to sample a bit of the wine before buying. Staff were wonderful. We did think it would have been lovely if the vineyard (some of it just by the restaurant) was lit up so you could see it at night while eating? I'm sure there's a reason its not though,
Such a beautiful hotel. Great views and very clean. Peter looked after us from start to finish. Could not have asked for a better stay. Thank to Peter and the team. We will be back!
Table was booked for 20.30 but the kitchen closed at 20.00hrs. We arrived at 20.15 and, after showing our confirmation email stating 20.30, we were asked to pick our table. Very limited menu choices, no atmosphere at all. Felt we were rushed to pick something and generally felt uncomfortable. I chose the muscles, I had to ask for a finger bowl and when it arrived it was filled with cold water. Appreciate that we are in a very strange situation at the moment but, on the following night we decided to eat at a restaurant in the town which had an amazing menu choice including a specials menu and a fabulous atmosphere. I don’t think you should be using Covid as an excuse to offer such a restrictive menu and opening hours to residents who have paid a lot of money to stay and are unable to recommend the restaurant.
The good - beautiful view, wait staff were really nice, the wine The bad - the food was genuinely atrocious. The pizza was barely edible and like something a small child would make at school. The chocolate cake (which is hard to do wrong) was similarly bad and the salad starter was ridiculously overpriced. There was also barely any selection of food on the menu. The tables weren’t really clean and given the beautiful surroundings you have, so much more could have been done with the restaurant to make it much better experience.
Thankyou The vineyard hotel and Denbies for a relaxing enjoyable stay. Everything was perfect the customer service, the tours, food and amazing wine!
Incredible waiters in the evening which enhanced the whole experience. The food unfortunately was disappointing.
We really enjoyed our stay, service was great all with a smile, face masks considered. Surprised that we ordered Denbies red wine to be told you didn’t have any??? Ended up with very expensive Argentinian Malbec, disappointing as we were on the vineyard. Special mention goes to Janice who looked after us at breakfast, she is a credit to you.
Thank you for a wonderful stay! I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Denbies to anyone.
Great small hotel with beautiful surroundings, good food, great friendly professional staff. Rooms were spacious and contemporary. Book a gazebo for private dinner! One suggestion maybe use local or British toiletries and ditch the small plastic bottles. Also need milk in rooms or a fridge as don’t want to have to go to the restaurant in my pyjamas when I wake up in the morning to make my coffee. Otherwise all great, lovely stay.
Peter and the team were excellent.
Such poor service led to us waiting over 2 hours for a starter of soup and a salad. Both are pre prepared items. The mains were cold and the service was also not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel which is lovely. The maitre d’ is also rude. This could be an amazing restaurant but the second night we cancelled our booking and went elsewhere.
Lovely visit - amazing place. Setting is wonderful. Will definitely return.
