About The Viking
The Viking Pub & Bakehouse will open in June 2016. Serving the best in food, brews, cocktails and coffee.
Staff very welcoming, friendly & efficient. Food & drinks were lovely. Will definitely return again soon.
One word - shocking. Service was poor, wait time was over an hour for mains. Kids meals supposed to come out with starters but came out with mains meaning hungry kids. Lukewarm meals, including mash which was sent out again and was lukewarm for a second time! Missed stuff off the order, burnt pizza, piece of sharp plastic in the lamb burger about 0.5 inches in size, ended up in a pregnant ladies mouth before being discovered. Think there may be a gravy ration going in in West Kirby too. Drinks weren’t the best, not sure why they charge £3.80 for a small glass of coke. Told the plastic lamb burger would be taken off the bill - left on. Charged for spicy slaw which never showed up. Ended up getting 50% off as it was dreadful overall, but still cost me £125 and everyone left very disappointed. Shame really as I’ve been a few times before and had good experiences, but after this one I won’t be going back and neither will the other 12 people.
Hi The food was nice just a pity the roast potato’s had a bit of a warm up taste not fresh from cooking and also the Yorkshire puds were dried out a bit maybe both been under lights to long we ate at 14:00 Sunday not really late, but all food was eaten by are party of three and we all enjoyed are afternoon Regards Mike
Lack of gluten free menu made it hard to choose something which was a shame.! Nice food however
We chose The Viking for a Friends get together after I assured them that the poor service issue was addressed. How embarrassed am I. We arrived at 7:45 for pre dinner drinks (our table was booked for 8:15) and the waitress assured us that she would notify us when the table was ready. She didn’t we had to go and find out. We were having the festive menu so had to prebook our meals. We had to wait for our starters until 9pm, even then they brought out four and the fifth about 5 minutes after. We then had to wait until 10pm for our main courses, and again totally unimpressed with the food. To be honest the food was mediocre to say the least one guest referred to it as airline food, only needing the plastic knife and fork to make it complete. Totally embarrassed that it was on my recommendation that my friends agreed to visit here. The restaurant wasn’t very busy either and now we know why, I doubt we will be back despite it once being my favourite. Very disappointing
We had a lovely 99th birthday meal for my Mum. Our family group ranged from 3years old to 99! We all enjoyed our meals and were well looked after by the staff. Mum said that she spent a very lively VJ night in 1945 in what was then called the Black Horse and thought it had changed a lot(for the better😂)
You advertised the festive menu without stating that you had to specifically say when booking that you wanted it. We were therefore unable to have the festive menu. We were also unable to have the chicken from the main menu because you had run out. You had also run out of jerk chicken and chunky chips. The waitress and the assistant manager were at least apologetic and embarrassed. The manager was flippant and left with the phrase “awesome “ when he had explained that we couldn’t have the turkey.
We have dined at the Viking as a family of 3 on many occasions or just my daughter and myself on even more occasions. The food, drinks and very friendly service has never failed to impress us. Simon whatever it is you are doing with the training of all your staff keep up the good work.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was tasty, a shame several items off menu were unavailable.
Good food. Pleasant venue.
I think that the pizzas on offer are a little bit limiting, and you should think about varying them on a regular basis. The dirty plates on our table remained for over an hour after we had finished eating, whilst two waitresses chatted between themselves for quite some time completely oblivious to what was happening around them. I had to ask for them to be removed as we didn't have enough space for the five of us to play the quiz.
Really great place
Always busy, always friendly. Good food and loved the new Winter salad!
We arrived at the Vikings on Saturday, only to be told our 7 oclock booking had been input for 6pm and the table had gone, so we had to wait about 30 mins for another table. My further booking for Tuesday I brought our pre-order in as requested only to get a call later that we had been given the wrong menu so again I had to re do the pre-order with 22 people and drop off the choices to be told that you don't do tomato soup on the new menu so I suggested they look at the menu they have given and its clearly on their. I do get nervous booking the Vikings as we have had other problems in the past and things seem very chaotic behind the scene. I also gave the list of what people had been having but when the food arrived they couldn't locate the list until later so it was a case of shouting across 22 people. However, we had a good time and the lady that was leaving had a great night and we made a good fuss.
Food was great as always. However, the service requires much attention! Every time I have been there is always a long wait on initial greeting from servers, and then a long wait on the drinks arriving. No check back throughout our entire meal either. Worth coming for the food!
Was a little disappointed for a number of reasons. It was my son's 8th birthday but I didn't feel it was really noticed even though it was on the booking. No soft drinks menu even when requested? Food arrived about 3 mins after ordering which made it feel very rushed.
Online booking time was 11.15. I rang and changed my breakfast booking to 11.30. When we ordered our food,my party of 7 people were then told that breakfast was unavailable after 11.30. If I had been told that when I changed the booking time, I would have gone somewhere else. We said we would leave and go elsewhere but manageress spoke to chef who said he would do breakfast for us. If the staff had told me over the phone this problem would not have took place.
Nice place but too expensive for pub food. I had bangers and mash and was nearly £14!!!!!
First visit here, and have to say food was excellent and not stupidly priced, so on that level, superb. My only gripe was we were sat at a table that was right in front of the back door, and seemed 'stuck out', and with the draught from the door (and exiting smokers), it kind of spoiled it. We asked to be moved but were told all tables were reserved, fair enough, but not great. Staff were excellent, friendly, attentive and had a smile on their faces - what a refreshing change. Yes we will go back, but maybe not on a quiz night.
Another great quiz night at the Viking. Table was comfortable and even managed to fit an extra person on no problems. Staff are always fantastic, really friendly and helpful. If being really picky there was sometimes a bit of a wait for drinks but that was it. The food was excellent. Atmosphere brilliant, venue is really comfortable and clean.
Only disappointment was once again no Pigs in Blankets on the Menu we dined Sunday 6.30pm very poor management on the kitchen part as this is not the first time they have run out Pigs in Blanket on a Sunday restaurant is losing out on income due to kitchen not holding sufficient food stocks.
On arrival it was busier and louder than expected, our table wasn’t ready and we couldn’t get served at the bar, however, we did manage to get seated fairly quickly and there are only positives from this point. The food was gorgeous, loved the music and atmosphere and staff were attentive. I would definitely return
Great food, everyone enjoyed their meal. Place was full so quite noisy but service was good
A great family pub
The service was pretty awful to be honest. We said we wouldn’t come again because the service was so bad last time. Because Simon comes across well on TV we thought we would give it another go. Not enough staff working, waiting too long for food and the bill was disappointing. The blonde haired waitress was so miserable, just putting drinks on the table and walking off was laughable in the end. It is such a nice place to eat, but two bad experiences , and two lots of friends saying they had similar experiences, means we won’t be returning sorry.
