About The View at Hencote
The View at Hencote sits atop the Hencote estate with fantastic views over the Hencote Vineyard, Shrewsbury and the Shropshire hills.
Partnering locally-sourced produce with bold, international style cuisine and authentic cooking on our open-fire charcoal grill, the View at Hencote offers a unique culinary experience in Shropshire.
Open not only for restaurant reservations, relax in our lounge or wine & cocktail bar with views into the Hencote winery where our award-winning wine is produced or sit by the pizza counter to enjoy a pizza made in our Italian rotary pizza oven.
Throughly enjoyed our dining experience apart from the starter service . Our table of eight people were given the choice of two starters we all ordered then received only six and advised they should be shared extremely strange this was resolved only when a member of our party complained. The main meal and desert were extremely enjoyable and the chocolate we received with the bill was to die for I would recommend this be sold along side your wines..
The price of Sunday lunch has gone up since December last year but the portions are smaller. Needs to be better value or you will lose custom.
Can't wait to return to see the view during the day and enjoy more of the amazing food.
We were super impressed with the service at Hencote. We were watching the Hencote team in action and customer service is top priority. They delivered a perfect mix of service and giving us space to enjoy our food and drink. We had a beautifully served cocktail before being seated in the restaurant. The food was delicious. Even though it was fairly busy our table felt very private. I can’t wait to go back!
Service was impeccable and setting was amazing. However food was served to us very cold and took around an hour to come, which you wouldn’t expect when spending over £100 on 2 main meals and a few drinks. Disappointing and expensive food wise however staff are very good. Waiter was very professional and friendly however was told the lamb served would cost around £30 and ended up being £42 on our bill.
Having not studied the website properly, I did not realise as a party of 9 we would be limited to the sharing menus only and all have to order the same thing! Would have been helpful when I received the request for £100 deposit 2 days before the meal, if I had been advised of this. Food and drink was nice but not in any way special considering the prices!
Very expensive for small portions. When you do this the food has to be spot on and unfortunately really was not. When I mentioned that the steak was not cooked how we had asked, I was read a script about thermometers and how they cook it. Not once did I receive an apology.
An incredible experience. The service, the food and the setting were all wonderful. I would highly recommend.
We visited Hencote for Sunday Lunch 13th January at 2.30. 4 adults and a 4 year old child. Nice welcome and promptly shown to our table with a magnificent view over Shrewsbury. We were given an al la carte and a set Sunday Lunch menu, however it was made clear that it would suit the kitchen if we all chose either one or the other ! Ok we chose 4 set meals and a small plate of the main course for the child. Starters and main course were tasty and appetising however the choice of Hazelnut Pavlova for Dessert was poor, a bowl of thick cream with a few nuts and lime sprinkled on top, not a hint of meringue in sight. Service although pleasant was slow and we had to remind the staff we were there. Over 3 hours for lunch is just too long, in fact the order for coffee never materialised and so we asked for the bill. £40 per head plus £20 for the one small plate for the child was not good value at all. Lovely place but needs to shape up.
We had the most amazing meal and can’t wait to return again soon would highly recommend
The Hencote is quite simply a really nice place, the staff are efficient, welcoming, polite and very friendly. There is sufficient parking and stunning views. The meal was exceptional if not pricey but we went for the "buy a chunk of meat option from the prime cuts" which was very good, the wine waiter knew his stuff, the tables are not cramped together and the explanation of the prime cut of beef was very well explained. What i would not do next time - i would not go with a group purchase of meat for the following reasons: 1) Expensive 2) The meat can only be cooked to one level, well done, medium/well blue etc. As our group had four people we all had different cooking choices so some of us had to compromise. 3) The eat wes served centrally on the table so it was a self serve situation - i like mine delivered on a plate. so will go a la carte next time So the above are my personal opinions on how the food is picked, cut, cooked and served... However i will be back for a next time as the service was exceptional
Overwhelmed by everyone being so provessional and lovely. Made the whole evening
Absolutely loved our meal here, the food, staff and whole place in general is excellent!! Would definitely recommend and can’t wait to come again!!
A fabulous restaurant, which I would highly recommend
What we ate was lovely and well cooked, and the fixed menu was good value. The fish menu looked very expensive tho so we didn’t try it.
What a delicious meal! We shall certainly be returning and have already recommended Hencote to friends. Staff apologised for the delay in serving our food and offered us some breads while we waited.
Love it here and now so do my daughters after our Christmas Eve lunch! Truly a lovely place to spend time in 👌🏻
Having emailed this previously with no response, I am posting this here. My husband and I came to The View at Hencote for dinner last night to celebrate my husband’s 50th Birthday. Although set in delightful surroundings, we were disappointed with some of the meal and the service. Firstly there was no lamb available on the menu leaving only a choice of beef or fish. We both therefore chose sirloin steak despite having hoped for lamb - myself choosing a 200g amount and my husband 300g. When it arrived after a 45 minute wait, it was not particularly well presented. It came with various accompaniments, one of which was supposed to be triple cooked chips. The chips served clearly weren’t, although when we queried this with the waitress she said that they were. Again we asked the Head of House, who told us they were unable to do triple cooked chips because the restaurant had been busy over Christmas so had ran out of certain things. Therefore substitutions had been made. We had not been informed of this when ordering and find it hard to believe the restaurant had run out of potatoes. My potato choice - Baked Arran Victory potatoes - was ONE incredibly small potato not at all warranting the price of £6. Our frustration with the meal was further compounded, when the bill arrived and we were charged for 600g of beef. When we questioned the waitress over this matter, we were told that they don’t serve 200g weight of beef but indeed that the meat had been pre-cut to 300g weight so had to be served like that. We were left confused as to why again we were not told this especially when it appears from the menu that it is served by the 100g. The Head of House was not around to further question this. We had been so looking forward to this special night out in a local restaurant serving local food and indeed wine, which incidentally was delicious, but left feeling disappointed and unlikely to recommend or return.
A fabulous Christmas day. A great time had by all. Thank you.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It would be pointless trying to claim that a meal at the View is anything other than expensive, which means that the View will only ever be a place for special occasions as far as I am concerned. I do recognise, of course, that top quality can never be cheap so I will definitely be back. I liked all the staff but Emilyia was particularly helpful. My only negative comment would be that the orange juice was nothing special. It may have been fresh but it still tasted as if it was out of a carton. Other than that everything we ate and drank was superb.
Food was great, only had a steak once in my life and it was horrible. I decided to get one a Hencote & it was fantastic! House wine (Red) was gorgeous soooo so easy to drink and went well with the dinner. Will definitely be back & would recommend to anyone who likes a good dinner. the chips are also good top quality, kinda served like a mini game of jenga :)
Amazing service, beautiful venue, great ambiance. Informative and attentive staff. A touch pricey but it was for a birthday celebration - views would be best appreciated in daylight /Summer months. Felt it was very remiss of any of the clearly available staff to not wish us goodnight upon leaving or assist us in getting our coats from the stand!
All I can say is Superb superb superb. We gad a fantatic time. Can we book for next year now please. Lol. X
Again the food, service and wine excellent, so pleased we have an eatery of this standard on our doorstep, will be back again soon. 5 Stars
Arrived at 14:15hrs for as 14:30hrs booking. we asked if we could have a window seat and they very quickly set a table for us.. Sunday lunch menu is 3 courses, we started with BBQ Octopus and Berlotti bean broth which was delicious, main course was beef (cooked to perfection) with sprouts and ham and a beautiful red cabbage with red wine, the roast potatoes were crispy and the Yorkshire pudding finished it off nicely. There was more than enough for 2 people and was a taste sensation. Dessert did not disappoint either, The toffee apple tarte tatin tasted delicious ... all of this was accompanied by Hencote wine straight from the vineyard. Hencote is a fine dining restaurant with beautiful scenery and a touch of luxury which is reflected in the price. Highly recommended.
