About The View at Hencote
The View at Hencote is a luxury vineyard restaurant destination. Head Chef Trystan Ross Williams and his brigade use modern practices to create a stunning dining experience. With views across Hencote vineyard, Shrewsbury and the Welsh hills this retreat is a wonderful place for guests to relax, entertain and enjoy.
Bread and starters (prawns and scallops) were good. Steak was very disappointing, tasted more like roast beef than fillet steak.
Excellent experience. Loved the approach to the menu and sharing theme. Enjoyed having personal guidance from the chef. A major asset to the area. We will be back.
I had lunch on 14/12/18 with two friends. We all enjoyed ourselves and the food, wine and spirits were excellent. I am so glad that Shrewsbury now has a top class restaurant of which we can be proud. Many thanks to all the staff who were fantstic. Mnay thanks.
Hencote provides 5* food and service in a stunning setting. The restaurant is luxurious but the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. All the staff are knowledgable about the menu and are happy to explain the dishes. A must visit Shrewsbury restaurant.
The whole afternoon was amazing from start to finish. The atmosphere, service, food and drink were all top notch. Friendly and helpful staff but not imposing and the food and drink were exceptional. Will definitely be back
Fantastic venue/location, service and food/drink. We had the set menu at £75 a head. Was hesitant about having English wine but following a quick taste supplied by the bar man, the white wine turned out to be the best English wine I've had (Solarus). If anything there was too much food, but this was down to the amount of bread at the start with two types being served twice. Being a glutton, I couldn't stop myself.. The whole brill on the bone we had was the stand out and the celeriac with honey, apple and truffle went so very well.. Look forward to returning..
Amazing setting and decor. Unmarket but very relaxed. Loved the warm welcome and professionalism of staff. Food was excellent and great selection of beverages to suit all tastes. Looking forward to coming back very soon!
Superb setting, food and view. Couldn't get any better!
Excellent on all counts
We had a wonderful night in a truly special setting. We fully understand “plate sharing” concepts and also that the atmosphere is deliberately laid back, so need to rush. The food was delicious and the young staff very polite and engaging. We were there for over 3 hours and enjoyed taking our time to enjoy the many different dishes, paired with different wines and especially the company of our friends in a conducive atmosphere. We will definitely be back especially as we learnt that the menu will be expanded and live music introduced in the near future. Well done to all at The View. And thank you for such a relaxing evening.
Outstanding on all fronts. I would however suggest you introduce a simpler menu option to sit alongside the a la carte and taster menu.
Amazing looking place (from the inside) You can tell a lot of money has been spent on this restaurant and it looks stunning. Staff are very polite but some still need training to a much higher standard if going to charge London prices, Some of the basics missing like removing used glasses etc. Very slow service with long waits between courses. Very poor wine list with no descriptions for the wines. Over complicated in the way the menu is structured. Keep it simple to order from. As I said, stunning place but we will leave it quite a while before returning. Felt disappointed to be honest.
My only quibble would be that the sauce with the clams and salmon was too strong/sweet - too much of it to complement the dish and instead was a little overpowering.
Great evening. Love the venue, fantastic food, drink friendly helpful staff. Will definitely be back soon.
The View is stunning - you can see right across Shrewsbury; a lovely spot to spend a Sunday afternoon catching up with friends. The staff were fantastic - really helpful and made you feel comfortable. The food was some of the best we've had, but we did find the menu a bit confusing - especially as we were a bigger group of too polite friends - the idea is to share everything. We left a little on the hungry side with much lighter pockets. If the menu is tweaked so you select your own meal or the centerpieces included sharing veg platters and are priced per person I think we would have been a lot less cautious with our ordering. We would also recommend the Hencote white - very nice. We can really see the potential here and it could definitely become somewhere for your special occasion meals.
We ate at The View on Saturday Evening. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Staff were excellent, waiters/waitresses knew all ingredients of the food being prepared, the service was excellent, the food was out of this world. Cost wise not cheap but well worth the money if you like good food. Will definitely return in the near future.
Excellent meal although expensive but great for that special occasion. Set menu £75 pp. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent service. Would recommend. Would like to see a menu and prices on your website rather than facebook. Would definitely go back. Amazing centre piece meat. Thank you
A wonderful first dining experience at The View. The food, wine and service were exemplary with a focus on superior menu knowledge; approachable, polished staff and delicious food. Lifestyle wine quite drinkable but we look forward to sampling the home-grown stuff next year. The setting is unique - and best enjoyed in the daylight as the view is quite staggeringly beautiful. We would love to come in the summer and try out the glamping site which sounds incredible. Thanks to the extended team for bringing something new and exciting to Shrewsbury. We'll be back.
The restaurant is spacious and modern with large tables and comfortable dining area. There is also a lounge area and an attractive bar. The food was exceptional, three set menus ranging from £50 to £75 per head. A mixture of meat, fish and vegetarian and an emphasis on tapas style sharing plates. The starter was very bread based but freshly baked and original. Puddings was delicious. The wine was easy drinking and also of a high quality. The service was attentive but we weren’t offered a wine cooler, the waitress knew nothing about the wine but she was very friendly as were all the staff. Nothing was too much. Thank you for a great evening. A restaurant for a special occasion. There’s nothing else like it in Shrewsbury.
The Hencote is a very well designed and enjoyable restaurant ,the views over Shrewsbury are stunning . The menus are well thought out and cooked to perfection, we had the Shropshire beef as our main dish, preceded by several courses ,each varied . The staffs knowaldge of the food served was impressive and they all were very easy to chat to(inc a knowledgable bar man) We will definitely recommend Hencote to friends, family and neighbours (as we only live 30 seconds drive from Hencote) I think for us it will be a place to go for that special occasion ,as it is on the higher end of the cost scale, but worth it as the whole experience was very enjoyable .
We were all completely blown away by the restaurant, from the decor, design, ambience, food, wine and service. You have created a really unique, stunning and very special place which we feel very lucky to have on our doorstep. The food was exceptional and it was a lovely touch that your amazing chef came out to explain each course. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Hencote wine. Who knew that English wine could be so good! We were made to feel very welcome and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend ‘The View’ to everyone we know. We can’t wait to return. (It is well worth seeing the view of Shrewsbury and the south Shropshire hills from here. It has to be the best view in Shropshire!)
What fantastic Sunday afternoon the moment we walked in to the time we left it was an amazing experience can’t that Jack and his fantastic staff, well done all can’t wait to go back. See you soon
An excellent new restaurant bustling with style and service. Fantastic food and wine. I would thoroughly recommend The View at Hencote.
Visited on the pre opening evening and had a really great evening, the atmosphere was most welcoming as were all the staff from both bar to restaurant. Chatted with the bar staff about cocktails and drinks and the meal itself was spectacular. The sommelier was very informative about the wine selections given in fact we couldn’t fault any of the staff. Had a tour of the Kitchen by the chef after the meal which was a really nice touch. Well done everyone👍
