About The Vestry Restaurant and Bar
An venue offering good quality food and excellent service. Individually styled, casual enough to be comfortable, smart enough to feel special.
Relax and enjoy our great lunchtime menu and coffee, and if you're feeling a little rebellious why not a cheeky glass of wine, the venue opens it's doors at 11am and is a great place to relax and eat with friends, colleagues and business associates.
We host Dining & Dance every other Saturday night
Every other Saturday night, when you can enjoy three courses with wine for only £35pp.
Our Pre-theatre menus are the only menus available for the 2 hours before a show across at the Mayflower, with the Express Lunch being available any other weekday between 12-3pm
Had a pre-show lunch with my sisters. They had burgers which looked delicious and I had the grilled halloumi salad which was very disappointing. Usually an Entree salad is more then just lettuce and tomatoes... it was just a bowl of lettuce really, if it was a starter I would understand but not a 17.50 entree. Dessert- we all ordered sticky toffee pudding and I ate half of mine as it wasn't very tasty. Cake was just too dry and not the melt in your mouth that I usually have. Wine was good though as were the coffees.
All was fine: I have no other comments.
Great environment, good food and attentive service.
Not as good as previous visit. Maybe short staffed? A couple of issues with the food... soft poached egg was hard, fillet of cod was dry, donut profiteroles burnt. Hopefully it was just an off day as it's such a lovely venue and great for a pre-theatre dinner. Service was good even though they were really busy.
Starters were average at best.. smoked duck & the bubble and squeak were bland. Mains were actually very good, the duck was perfect and the steak was lovely, even though it was served medium rather than rare. Unfortunately it took 1hr 20mins from arriving until our mains arrived, so we did not have time to order dessert, and asked for the bill whilst still eating. Staff were attentive and polite, running around like busy bees.. can't fault the floor staff service, just the kitchen timings.
This was our first visit (for a pre-theatre meal) and we will definitely be back. The food was excellent, the service was attentive and it was good value for money, plus it's a beautiful building so it makes for a very pleasant place to be sitting. I'd be aware that there are nights when there is entertainment, so it could be more "loud and lively" rather than "quiet and romantic"!
Service was a bit too quick, we were in and out in 45 minutes !! Although the service was very friendly and efficient st a bit too efficient
Reserved a table for dinner following a visit to the Theatre. We were met with a friendly smile and had a drink before being shown to our table. The menu had plenty to choose from and at £21 for 2 courses and £26 for three offered superb value for money. Service was excellent and the food is was good. Will definitely be visiting The Vestry again.
Our waitress was BRILLIANT. We really couldn't praise her enough. It was as if we were her only customers for the evening. Food was great tasting if a little strange-never had the content for a fahita wrap so wet before, it did make eating a little messy, but as I say it tasted great.
Eating here made my mums day. She said she felt very special. Staff very friendly and food excellent . Thank you
We had a very good meal and excellent service on Wednesday. Regularly come to your restaurant when going to shows at the Mayflower.
Always a great venue to eat at before a show which is exactly what we did again. Food was great and the service attentive although we did ask for bread with the prawn cocktail and it never turned up, but minor detail on the great scheme of things. We'll be back in October for "Cilla" as it really is the best spot to eat at before a Mayflower show - end of!!
We had a great night and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The service was very slow at the bar on arrival and there did not appear to be enough bar staff to cope. Our starters all came out a different times despite having pre ordered and 3 people had to wait a considerable time after the rest of the party had been served for their starter. 3 different staff members came over asking what we were waiting on but offered no explanation as to the hold up. Most of the party had finished their starter by the time the last 3 arrived. There were some concerns over the prawn starter, people felt that they tasted slightly off or strange. Not all the prawn starters were finished and I know one was sent back and a replacement asked for. The mains were served much better and were delicious. Particular mentions go the the cod which was delicious and also the burger and steak. This was a special occasion and as our party appeared to be the last to leave the building, it's clear everyone enjoyed themselves and we would book again
Excellent service nothing was to much trouble. Fantastic food everything was cooked to perfection. Thank you!!
We have been previously and had good experiences. On this occasion we came for one of the Saturday dinner dances and by the time we left there was still no sign of any dancing. The music which had been playing in the background was suddenly turned up just as we were leaving. We also felt the menu was not up to the previous standard.
Thank you for a lovely start to our theatre evening. The service was exemplary. The menu was varied and the choices we made were delicious. We were really impressed with the service and the friendliness of the staff they really cared about us not only ensuring the food was being enjoyed but asking about our booking at the theatre. Was very refreshing.
Nice building and convient for the theatre. Food OK but waitress did not know the menu. Assured us the starter had no crab but then came with a pot that was clearly crab meat! Weird chicken Fajitas basically pot of chicken stew with a couple of wraps on the side. Stew in a wrap is not going to be pretty! Fairly tasteless but ok. Fine for basic food before seeing a show, would not recommend if you want higher quality. Be very careful to triple check if you are allergic to shellfish!
Hamburger on two visits seem to be dry/over cooked, maybe a slight adjustment will correct this..
Robbie Williams tribute was a great night service was fantastic, food was good not enough and not much choice for vegetarians but overall great night will be back
This was our (party of four) second visit in eight days, both pre-theatre. On the first visit (Friday 14th), we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Two of us had steaks that were excellent - perfectly cooked and the knife cut as though through butter. Because of our experience we immediately re-booked for the following week (Saturday 22nd). This time three of us had the steak. All three steaks were under cooked - two of us didn't mind as we were happy with rare (in one case very rare) steaks; the third had to be returned to be recooked. All three were also a bit tough and difficult to cut and chew. A marked difference to the previous week, and we came away disappointed. The fourth member of the party thoroughly enjoyed the Duck. For both visits, the service was very good.
Good pre-show menu. Excellent food and service. Highly recommended
Wonderful meal - great service, thank you
Always our choice of restaurant before seeing a show, & not just because it's convenient. Great food, quick & friendly service. If I lived closer I'd dine here far more often
Made a booking to celebrate my university graduation with my family. The food was excellent the duck and steak were some of the best I've ever tasted. The portions were perfect in size and the service was great. I will be back
My Steak was not cooked as requested it was very tough and inedible the chips soggy and tasted like they had been kept warm for hours they run out of mushrooms at 6.00pm put on extra tomatoes but never told me until they brought it to the table. I was unable to eat it but was never offered any alternative so left still hungry.
