About The Tyler's Kiln
The Tyler’s Kiln Public House in Canterbury is about as charming a British country pub as you could wish to find. It’s got everything a pub needs: quality, homemade and traditional pub fare, a real sense of community, open fires and, of course, a well-stocked bar. Whether you’re just popping in for a coffee and a slice of homemade shortbread or a full three-course dinner from the a la carte menu that changes with the seasons, The Tyler’s Kiln Public House will leave an enormous smile on your face.
It has recently become infamous as 'Britain's Most Haunted Pub' and has appeared on several television series. Furthermore, it has won accolades including Pub of the Year 2016 by the Kent Food & Drink Awards, Best Pub or Casual Dining Venue 2017 by the Lux Food & Drink Awards, Best Home-Style Cuisine Restaurant 2018 by the Restaurant & Bar Awards, and Pub of the Year 2019 by CAMRA.
The bar area is dominated by a huge brick kiln roaring open fireplace that can seat up to 16 people on either side. There is a state of the art all-weather beer garden featuring protection from rain or shine at the touch of a button as well as overhead and under bench heating. Across the bridge you shall find the chef's herb house and a well stocked pond below a dripping copper tree water feature. Upstairs you will find a larger restaurant area, a private dining room, a cosy snug and even a museum area showcasing medieval tiles and pottery from Tyler Hill.
Advanced reservations are always a good idea if you want to be sure of a table as this place is a real gem in Canterbury. You’ll find it on Hackington Road, Tyler Hill.
Perfect food, brilliantly kept cask ale from excellent brewery (Harvey's). You have thought of everything! Even, for our outside table, sun cream and personal electric awning. Thoughtful, discreet and intelligent service.
The starter we had was the shared platter and it was outstanding in every way. The steak for main was superb and stuffed mushroom divine. The fish pie was beautifully tasty and disappointed I couldn't manage any more. Staff were very friendly.
Ate here for the first time on Sunday. Food and service good and importantly for us, the pub was child-friendly. Disappointed that neither the starter or dessert that I ordered were available (and they tried to charge me for the dessert I didn’t have so just as well I asked for a print out of the bill). That took the edge off a bit so probably won’t rush back.
Only tiny comment is the girl that served us seems quite abrasive. Other than that the whole experience was lovely and we’ll be back to try the garden!
Overall food was excellent. However, roast potatoes should be crispy and ours were disappointingly not and yorkshire puddings were overcooked. Service was excellent and we will rebook in the future. Online booking is quick and convenient
Lovely food and the service we received was very good.
First visit gorgeous place, very welcoming and top notch food. Will be visiting again. The snug is good for hiring if needed to sit and chill and catch up with friends.
We particularly enjoyed the sweet potato and lemongrass soup. Delicious.
Service was excellent as was the food. Always a treat to have lunch at The Tyler’s Kiln.
Second visit, thoroughly enjoyable. Staff attentive and friendly . Shall be back soon!
Best pub in Kent!
The food and drink were good and service and staff brilliant. The only criticism was that having used ResDiary for a last minute booking the Tyler's Kiln had no record of the booking when we first arrived. They received confirmation some time after our arrival. What went wrong?.
Five words - Ab-so-lute-ly Amazing!
What a lovely, welcoming pub/restaurant! Wonderful staff, beautiful garden and great food!
Food was good but the service was slow..... I appreciate it was Easter Monday.
Loved the dog kennels great idea much better than leaving your dog in the car on a hot day.
Fantastic food in a beautiful location. Service was a little slow at times, but that is understandable on Easter Sunday! We will definitely return! Thank you!
Cost of scallop and prawn starter, too expensive, 2 scallops and 2 small prawns. We dine out regularly and only pay this in London restaurants and normallythere is a minimum of 3 of each. Waited 20mins before our order was taken and a further 30 minutes before starters arrived. Disappointed as we have been here 4 or 5 recently and to be charged 10% service is not justified on top of a £200 bill. However, food was good, a pity as this took the edge of a good evening Regards Ian Small
Great service! Lovely food! Our first time and will definitely will go back!
Had a lovely meal and service was good even though they were one down and busy
Absolutely amazing evening, and the food was divine. Will definitely be coming back
Brilliant night really enjoyed the paranormal evening hope you do it again
My partner and I always choose you guys for our special occasion meals as you are always so welcoming. This occasion was my fiancé’s birthday. We had a lovely relaxed meal and the service was second to none. Thank you to all :-) Oh ps the roast pork was delicious as was the banoffee dessert.
Superb food, friendly service.
We had a wonderful meal could not fault the food. Service was good, we had to wait a while for puddings at the end but otherwise very attentive waitress, nothing was too much trouble. Really very good. Would 100% recommend and will be returning!
