About The Tyler's Kiln
The Tyler’s Kiln Public House in Canterbury is about as charming a British country pub as you could wish to find. It’s got everything a pub needs: quality, homemade and traditional pub fare, a real sense of community, open fires and, of course, a well-stocked bar. Whether you’re just popping in for a coffee and a slice of homemade shortbread or a full three-course dinner from the a la carte menu that changes with the seasons, The Tyler’s Kiln Public House will leave an enormous smile on your face.
It has recently become infamous as 'Britain's Most Haunted Pub' and has appeared on several television series. Furthermore, it has won accolades including Pub of the Year 2016 by the Kent Food & Drink Awards, Best Pub or Casual Dining Venue 2017 by the Lux Food & Drink Awards, Best Home-Style Cuisine Restaurant 2018 by the Restaurant & Bar Awards, and Pub of the Year 2019 by CAMRA.
The bar area is dominated by a huge brick kiln roaring open fireplace that can seat up to 16 people on either side. There is a state of the art all-weather beer garden featuring protection from rain or shine at the touch of a button as well as overhead and under bench heating. Across the bridge you shall find the chef's herb house and a well stocked pond below a dripping copper tree water feature. Upstairs you will find a larger restaurant area, a private dining room, a cosy snug and even a museum area showcasing medieval tiles and pottery from Tyler Hill.
Advanced reservations are always a good idea if you want to be sure of a table as this place is a real gem in Canterbury. You’ll find it on Hackington Road, Tyler Hill.
I had lunch with my wife and we had a fantastic day we had the camembert starter I had roast turkey and my wife had the ribs unfortunately no room for a pudding but will have one next time.
Starter- great, very tasty, well above average and would highly recommend! Mains- lacked the Yorkshire pudding, duck fat potatoes were anaemic (not at all crispy) and we had to go up to the bar to request a sharper knife for the tough beef, as the servers hardly attended the table. Pudding- pecan pie was to die for! Shame about the syrup sponge being served cold and the portion for the sponge was minimal. Glad we got it as part of the 3 course package as it was not worth the normal price on the menu!
Excellent Sunday roast, waiting time for courses was just what you want, and service was very good. They go all out with the Christmas decorations and this makes for a delightful festive atmosphere!
Lovely Sunday lunch with family excellent service in comfortable surroundings
More details about pub parking on your website please. Welcoming atmosphere. Good menu choice.. Good clean loos.
Excellent service/ exceptional food wonderful amosphere so good can not wait to go back
We had a great night the food was excellent and we where looked after very well we will come back again
A really lovely family celebration in the private dining room. What excellent friendly service we received by the waitress and other staff. Good was excellent too. This made for a relaxed unhurried afternoon.
We all had a brilliant night - great treat to start the weekend. Food was perfect as always and all made extra special by the super cheery and friendly staff. The Christmas lights are incredible too! Hope to be back real soon. Sadly once again....l was unable to try a dessert as the first two courses were so filling, so shall not eat for a few days before my next visit! Thanks guys!
Wanted to try venison but it had run out but otherwise the food was excellent
Great food and service
The staff, on the whole, were superb. One in particular (a young man) stood out with his friendly and professional attitude. The pub itself is well maintained and tidy, and it's clear that the staff take a pride in the place. The food came fairly promptly, with a decent dwell time between courses. The food itself was okay...and this was the disappointment given the prices shown on the menu as I expected a lot better! Everything was cooked correctly and the pork was nicely done, but gravy was a bit lacking and the veg supplied was a bit stingy - i.e. half a parsnip? As to whether I'll return...I don't know. The mandatory 10% service charge is an utter joke and the management need to sort this out, especially given the prices on the menu. The George in Molash is an example (food-wise) of how to do an excellent traditional Sunday lunch at a more realistic price.
Really enjoyable Sunday lunch good atmosphere friendly staff
Very disappointed Young girls more interested in their hair, looking in the mirror and their phones Had to ask every time for a drink. Clearly disturbing their chit chat. The person who may have been more responsible was busy rolling cigarettes. Massively disappointing The pub was freezing and customers were sat eating lunch, wearing their coats Front of house was anything but welcoming. Would we go back .. NO
Wonderful food, we had the turkey roast and it was gorgeous.
We enjoyed the whole evening.Food was cooked beautifully and the serviced was excellent.Loved the atmosphere in the pub and the Christmas lights are beautiful. We shall return.
Lovely evening. Service was spot on . Food was delicious though found it a tad expensive.
An outstanding experience. Great atmosphere, great service and superb food. The Christmas lights are also a special in there own right!
Lovely pub with friendly staff
Friendly staff and great service
Staff responded very helpfully when numbers increased unexpectedly at the last minute . They managed to reseat us all and friends that had not been before were most impressed with the fish pie , the eggs benedict as good as ever.
Good Christmas menu, and we enjoyed the turkey and venison main course, and ice cream to follow.
Glad to see the veggie nut roast is back on the menu for Sunday lunch. Veggies like Sunday roasts with all the trimmings too so thank you
Came for birthday meal with family, everyone enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Would definitely come back.
