About The Tyler's Kiln
The Tyler’s Kiln Public House in Canterbury is about as charming a British country pub as you could wish to find. It’s got everything a pub needs: quality, homemade and traditional pub fare, a real sense of community, open fires and, of course, a well-stocked bar. Whether you’re just popping in for a coffee and a slice of homemade shortbread or a full three-course dinner from the a la carte menu that changes with the seasons, The Tyler’s Kiln Public House will leave an enormous smile on your face.
It has recently become infamous as 'Britain's Most Haunted Pub' and has appeared on several television series. Furthermore, it has won accolades including Pub of the Year 2016 by the Kent Food & Drink Awards, Best Pub or Casual Dining Venue 2017 by the Lux Food & Drink Awards, Best Home-Style Cuisine Restaurant 2018 by the Restaurant & Bar Awards, and Pub of the Year 2019 by CAMRA.
The bar area is dominated by a huge brick kiln roaring open fireplace that can seat up to 16 people on either side. There is a state of the art all-weather beer garden featuring protection from rain or shine at the touch of a button as well as overhead and under bench heating. Across the bridge you shall find the chef's herb house and a well stocked pond below a dripping copper tree water feature. Upstairs you will find a larger restaurant area, a private dining room, a cosy snug and even a museum area showcasing medieval tiles and pottery from Tyler Hill.
Advanced reservations are always a good idea if you want to be sure of a table as this place is a real gem in Canterbury. You’ll find it on Hackington Road, Tyler Hill.
Excellent venue, great food, great service
Was not acknowledged when standing at the bar for some time , while others were being served, not a warm welcome as promised. Food was good, waitress was friendly & helpful, but badly let down by initial greeting.
We booked The Tyler's Kiln for a post-graduation lunch and it was just the right setting for our party of 11. The food was good as was the service - the staff were all really helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend.
My Spare ribs were not asa good as usual...a bit overdone.
Excellent attention to detail. Lovely food. Very friendly service.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal on Thursday evening. My wife said the fish & chis were the best she's had. Will definitely visit again.
What's not to like , good selection of real ales and food is a great prive and quality, staff are always happy and extremely helpful and friendly. All round 5☆
Good service excellent food.
Sunday roast was very good - we both had beef which was served pink - very tasty - perhaps a bit on the small side for my partner who likes meat! Veg was really good - nice selection and cooked superbly - gravy a bit watery for me but overall very nice roast.... Would definitely return.
Great food and atmosphere. Staff were friendly and very good.
your fish pie is consistently excellent, however eating it is not easy ! I understand that presentation is important , and it does look good , but please could we have a plate to decant it onto ? It would help with the vegetables too.
Lovely meal in a beautiful garden that was great value for money. What else could you ask for?!
We come to the Tylers Kiln a lot as we work very near. We love it there, the food, drink and the staff :-) Thank you Tylers Kiln
Great pub and fantastic food good value for money
I had a table booked for 7pm. Me and my partner arrived at 6:45, but we werent seated at a table until ten to 8, no word of apology or anything. Food was nice, little over-priced but was nice food. Just disappointed with the long wait
Fantastic service and delicious good. Definitely going back
I was looking forward to the fish and chips and free pint Friday special and had booked a table for 18:45 as I knew it would be popular so wanted to get in early. Unfortunately when we came to order our food we were informed the fish was all sold out, considering this was the Friday special offer and considering how early it was I was very surprised and disappointed to hear this and no alternative with free drink was offered.
A very charming place with great food and pleasant staff will definitely be back.
Lovely meal. Friendly staff. Will be visiting again
We booked an evening meal to celebrate the Birthdays of two ladies at work and what a lovely evening we had, Greeted by a warm welcome, we started off in the beer garden for a pre-meal drink and enjoyed an unexpected complimentary jug of pimms left over from a photo shoot which was very welcome! We then moved inside and enjoyed a lovely meal (the chicken and chorizo croquettes were delicious). Service was great, the waitress was friendly and accommodating when we asked to make a small swap on one of the dishes.Overall a good time was had by all and I would not hesitate to go back and have already recommended Tylers's Kiln to friends, family and neighbours!. thank you for a lovely evening!
Friendly staff very accommodating. Nothing was an issue and lovely service.
I thought the beef for the Sunday roast dinner on Father's Day was the worst we've ever had. We passed our thoughts to the waitress who was very apologetic and said she would tell the Chef. It was that bad my partner could not swallow the beef and £15 for inedible beef is a bit much, very disppointing. Lovely pub and staff.
Fantastic food and we will definitely be coming back.
Superb meal as always. We had home made nachos with vegan chilli and guacamole for starters which was so tasty and piping hot. We both had a roast lunch (beef and pork) which was delicious and filling, but saved some room for pud. Eaton mess and cheese and biscuits with homemade onion chutney and grapes, all were excellent. From start to finish the staff were friendly and attentive and the environment is lovely as always, I’d highly recommend this fabulous gastro pub.
