About The Tyler's Kiln
The Tyler’s Kiln Public House in Canterbury is about as charming a British country pub as you could wish to find. It’s got everything a pub needs: quality, homemade and traditional pub fare, a real sense of community, open fires and, of course, a well-stocked bar. Whether you’re just popping in for a coffee and a slice of homemade shortbread or a full three-course dinner from the a la carte menu that changes with the seasons, The Tyler’s Kiln Public House will leave an enormous smile on your face.
It has recently become infamous as 'Britain's Most Haunted Pub' and has appeared on several television series. Furthermore, it has won accolades including Pub of the Year 2016 by the Kent Food & Drink Awards, Best Pub or Casual Dining Venue 2017 by the Lux Food & Drink Awards, Best Home-Style Cuisine Restaurant 2018 by the Restaurant & Bar Awards, and Pub of the Year 2019 by CAMRA.
The bar area is dominated by a huge brick kiln roaring open fireplace that can seat up to 16 people on either side. There is a state of the art all-weather beer garden featuring protection from rain or shine at the touch of a button as well as overhead and under bench heating. Across the bridge you shall find the chef's herb house and a well stocked pond below a dripping copper tree water feature. Upstairs you will find a larger restaurant area, a private dining room, a cosy snug and even a museum area showcasing medieval tiles and pottery from Tyler Hill.
Advanced reservations are always a good idea if you want to be sure of a table as this place is a real gem in Canterbury. You’ll find it on Hackington Road, Tyler Hill.
On our visit here we had lunch. It was beautiful and tasty. The staff were very friendly. This is a lovely place to visit either for food or drinks. I’d recommend The Tylers Kiln to all my friends and family. A lovely homely place to visit. Top class. 5 stars.
Enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch, the food was brilliant. The occasion was somewhat spoilt by being seated upstairs next to a large family party which was spread over several tables. It was rather difficult to hold a conversation as a result.
very good calves liver. Excellent service - Hannah. Music inappropriste for the venue and to loud.
Super food sensibly priced- simple but very well cooked and presented- we will be back. Only negative is the intrusive background music but I can live with that.
Nice meal very polite staff
Just a lovely place, lovely ambience, friendly service and tasty food 👌👌
Lovely meal for 6. First time we had eaten here. We all had something different and all enjoyed our food. Would recommend
It was okay for value for money but my steak was a bit gristly. It was busy for a week night but service was top notch. Prices were a little high. Parking was a nightmare but the pub/resteraunt was lovely.
Fantastic Sunday roast
As a friend of the Kiln I am always happy to recommend to others.
Fantastic meal, great staff
One of my favourite eateries! Always special, never let down. See you again soon!
Best pub food ever, in a lovely place with friendly staff.
Fantastic as always, twice in one week too!!! Great idea for 40% off for loyalty members. Definitely be back mid week if that continues. Good work guys. Thank you
It was everything that you could possibly want and need, but was really reasonably priced. We've been for Sunday lunch twice and both occasions have been excellent. And you get proper gravy with your meal
We've probably been 50+ times to Tyler's Kiln and never disappointed. Always greeted with a smile and can't fault the service. Best pub around. Keep up the good work and looking forward to our next visit. Keith & Michelle Robertson
Was really looking forward to spending My 50th birthday there but one of our party wasn't happy with his food and at the end the waitress forgot about the drinks we had ordered. No blame on her part as she seemed really busy. But it did put a dampemer on my birthday celebrations. Food was nice.
The waitresses were absolutely run off their feet but continued to serve customers with a friendly smile and compensated any delay. You have a fantastic team of hard-working individuals. There was quite a delay to both being seated (25 mins after booked time) and to our main courses, however a team of such hard-working people is a rare find and the service was fantastic aside from the delay. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the food was beautiful, and the atmosphere is lovely.
We came for my husband & daughters birthday meal. We hadn’t been before, it was excellent in every aspect. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely meal/evening.
We had great meal very friedly staff we shall be booking again.
We enjoyed the whole experience at the Tyler’s Kiln and the food was just outstanding. We are keen to visit again to try other meals on the menu. The fact that there was a steady flow of diners on an ordinary Tuesday lunchtime, speaks volumes, I think. Staff were welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Well done to you all.
The food was excellent, the service was a bit slow but the staff were courteous and brilliant in recognizing that it was busy etc. Thank you for a wonderful meal.
Shame we had to wait 45 mins for our lunch, but worth the wait for the excellent duck dish
