About The Tyler's Kiln
The Tyler’s Kiln Public House in Canterbury is about as charming a British country pub as you could wish to find. It’s got everything a pub needs: quality, homemade and traditional pub fare, a real sense of community, open fires and, of course, a well-stocked bar. Whether you’re just popping in for a coffee and a slice of homemade shortbread or a full three-course dinner from the a la carte menu that changes with the seasons, The Tyler’s Kiln Public House will leave an enormous smile on your face.
It has recently become infamous as 'Britain's Most Haunted Pub' and has appeared on several television series. Furthermore, it has won accolades including Pub of the Year 2016 by the Kent Food & Drink Awards, Best Pub or Casual Dining Venue 2017 by the Lux Food & Drink Awards, Best Home-Style Cuisine Restaurant 2018 by the Restaurant & Bar Awards, and Pub of the Year 2019 by CAMRA.
The bar area is dominated by a huge brick kiln roaring open fireplace that can seat up to 16 people on either side. There is a state of the art all-weather beer garden featuring protection from rain or shine at the touch of a button as well as overhead and under bench heating. Across the bridge you shall find the chef's herb house and a well stocked pond below a dripping copper tree water feature. Upstairs you will find a larger restaurant area, a private dining room, a cosy snug and even a museum area showcasing medieval tiles and pottery from Tyler Hill.
Advanced reservations are always a good idea if you want to be sure of a table as this place is a real gem in Canterbury. You’ll find it on Hackington Road, Tyler Hill.
Lovely place food excellent great service will definitely visit again
Excellent as always
We have a lovely Sunday roast! Will definitely be back again.
Recommended by a friend and not disappointed. Excellent food and a good range of gins for us gin lovers.
Such a lovely welcome from the staff at The Tylers Kiln and a great atmosphere . Food and drink exceptional. I would highly recommend a visit.
For meat eaters the food is great, Sunday lunch was lovely but my wife is veggie and you don't do nut roast anymore which was very good. My wife wants a Sunday lunch with the trimmings, risotto or fish isn't the same. This would really stop us from coming again as she simply wouldn't enjoy it. Please think again and be more veggie friendly. Constructively.
The food is always amazing. Dinner is always a treat at the Tyler’s Kiln and never disappoints
First taste of the new menu very favourable . Lamb was perfection .
Great food and service as always.
First time since its been Tylers Kiln, all decor and the garden are all tastefully done. I was with my daughter in for Sunday lunch. It was a shame that some of the menu was not available, due to new menus coming and as she is a vegetarian choice was minimal and there was no nut roast, she ended up with vegetables potatoes and Yorkshire. I had the beef and was excellent and we both had dessert which were good.Nice choice of beer.
Food was average, despite very promising social media advertising. Lots of things crossed out. There were also less vegan options than expected, given the heavy promotion a while back. Service was quick. But staff initially told us the specials as in 'it's cod', but they didn't know in what way when we asked or seem keen to find out. We had to ask them again, when they still didn't offer up the info. Was expensive for what was received, in comparison to other pubs. Excellent social media and advertising, but let down in reality.
Lovely meal will definitely be returning
Had a roast dinner I had beef that was not pink but raw , my wife had pork but as it came in a large piece it was quite dry , and the crackling was inedible , if your going to charge a high price go a roast dinner you need to get the basics right
Relaxed atmosphere, good food and attentive staff.
Early dinner on a Saturday evening. Surprised that there were very few customers in the bar area where we had been seated. Nice food, but not much atmosphere.
Brilliant evening. Great menu. Three of us had steak and all were cooked as ordered but they were all tough, which was a shame. The rest of the food was amazing. The waiting staff were brilliant too. Took photos for us and joined in with some of our nonsense! The sharing platter starter was a particular highlight and the baby rack of ribs was huge! Thanks!
Lovely food in a very nice setting, staff were friendly & professional
We where in the function room which didn't really have an atmosphere. The staff were very polite and friendly but at times we had to go and find them to ask for a desert menu and a jug of water twice. It wouldn't put us off going back but not in the function room unless it was for a special occasion with a larger party. We also had to bring to attention that we paid £15 when making our reservation as it didn't show and our phone number had to be taken just incase.
We're local and been in a few times and apart from good food at good prices, always get a friendly welcome and never feel rushed. So highly recommended and we'll be back soon
We enjoyed a few drinks in the lovely garden followed by a great meal.
Not enough vegetarian choices but other than that excellent
This was our second visit to Tyler’s Kiln and it not disappoint. The staff were very courteous, the food excellent and a great selection of drinks. Very enjoyable.
This place is absolutely amazing. Would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a sophisticated establishment to eat in
You ought to give clear instructions where to find alternative parking places when the front of the pub is full
