About The Tyler's Kiln
The Tyler’s Kiln Public House in Canterbury is about as charming a British country pub as you could wish to find. It’s got everything a pub needs: quality, homemade and traditional pub fare, a real sense of community, open fires and, of course, a well-stocked bar. Whether you’re just popping in for a coffee and a slice of homemade shortbread or a full three-course dinner from the a la carte menu that changes with the seasons, The Tyler’s Kiln Public House will leave an enormous smile on your face.
It has recently become infamous as 'Britain's Most Haunted Pub' and has appeared on several television series. Furthermore, it has won accolades including Pub of the Year 2016 by the Kent Food & Drink Awards, Best Pub or Casual Dining Venue 2017 by the Lux Food & Drink Awards, Best Home-Style Cuisine Restaurant 2018 by the Restaurant & Bar Awards, and Pub of the Year 2019 by CAMRA.
The bar area is dominated by a huge brick kiln roaring open fireplace that can seat up to 16 people on either side. There is a state of the art all-weather beer garden featuring protection from rain or shine at the touch of a button as well as overhead and under bench heating. Across the bridge you shall find the chef's herb house and a well stocked pond below a dripping copper tree water feature. Upstairs you will find a larger restaurant area, a private dining room, a cosy snug and even a museum area showcasing medieval tiles and pottery from Tyler Hill.
Advanced reservations are always a good idea if you want to be sure of a table as this place is a real gem in Canterbury. You’ll find it on Hackington Road, Tyler Hill.
Difficult abnormal times but we were welcomed and all Covid precautions taken. The food is consistently good. My dog was also made to feel welcome and provided for with treats. Look forward to going again after Lockdown
First time visiting and definitely wont be the last! Had a fantastic Sunday Roast, generous portions and brilliant roast potatoes. Sat outside in the wonderful garden which had heaters and a canopy. Staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to help. Best wishes to you all and thank you for your wonderful food and service during these difficult times. Stay safe and see you soon.

As hard as it is at this present time, all of the staff worked hard to ensure that our visit was enjoyable and pleasant which it was do I thank the kiln for that we will be back soon
Lovely restaurant- very welcoming and great food.
Great to have a friendly atmosphere
We had a lovely brunch with all you can drink Prosecco for two hours. It was lovely and the food was amazing as normal.
Staff very friendly and attentive, food of s good quality.
Good and efficient service. Good COVID safety measures in place. No real ales other than bottles, I assume because only open 3days a week, nice Shiraz though.
The tastiest Sunday roast and delicious deserts. We will be back !
Food was delicious, service was friendly and quick and we were very impressed. The pub is beautifully furnished and there was a lovely atmosphere.
Lovely food, setting was perfect, staff very attentive, felt very safe.
Lovely Sunday lunch, good sized portions but not overfilling. Fantastic roast potatoes! Vegan burger was really good but too much to finish, thank you for providing foil to take it away. Friendly welcome for our dog too, with water and biscuits. Thank you!
Very lovely to be able to go out again - very good
Lovely meal, friendly helpful staff and very COVID safe.will definitely book again in the not too distant future
Used the Tyler's kiln many times and while the service has always been hit and miss, the food had been good so came back for a Sunday roast. To start we had a camembert sharing board (£14) this consisted of the smallest size camembert, 9 olives, bread and two shop's bought dips of garlic mayo and cranberry sauce very overpriced to start with and had to be sent back as cheese not melted and cold. Roast beef overcooked, tough and gravy made from granules, I gave up on desserts as the first two courses weren't any good but wife wanted to have one anyway so went for panna cotta which was terrible in fact wasn't eaten at all. Staff is still very young and not trained but do try their best. It's a hard time for pubs and restaurant and I do get that, but the Tyler's kiln is trying to cut to many corners and it shows in both food and service which is such a shame. Won't be back.
We’ve been here many times before but this was our first time since the covid pandemic. We were delighted with the safety measures and how they’ve not detracted from or changed the exceptional drinking and dining experience you get here. Most notably tonight was the service. Our food server provided the best service we’ve had anywhere ever. Give the man a prize!
Great attempt made by all staff to make it a comfortable and safe environment under difficult conditions caused by the pandemic. Unfortunate, but understandable, that there were no real ales available.
The food and service were excellent thank you. It was a miserable day so it was a shame the fires were not on.
Below your usual standards on our last visit. Burger meat was disappointing but chips were great. On this occasion it was quite expensive for the quality of food on offer. Sorry I’d like to be more positive as your civic procedures are excellent.
Safe environment and great atmosphere, consistently good food.
Excellent service from a very efficient and friendly (and patient!) waitress
Great food, good service. No complaints, very happy 👍
