About The Tuning Fork
You’ll find us in our brand new home at Dollman Farm, itself the heart of the new community of Houlton. Utterly inspired by the unique heritage that surrounds us, we’re serving up irresistible choices for breakfast, lunch, dinner (Friday & Saturday evenings), as well as delicious teas, coffees and homemade crafted cakes, seven days a week.
At a table in the window or a sofa in the corner, this is the slice of food heaven you’ve been waiting for. Meet up with friends over coffee or lunch, or bring the family for breakfast and discuss your future plans, tuning in to everything Houlton has to offer, today and tomorrow.
Just like our surroundings, our food connects us to our Houlton home. We work with local suppliers, pick the finest seasonal produce and prepare homemade food to order. Always fresh, always delicious.
Settle in on Sunday morning with a luxurious breakfast of smashed avocado & Dukkah eggs, served on Revel Bakery sourdough toast. We promise, you’ll wish every day could start here.
Calling in for lunch? Javanese mild fragnant curry with sesame fried chicken and basmati coconut rice or a sirloin steak sub:
8oz sirloin steak, sauteed mushrooms, balsamic glaze, goats
cheese, watercress and tomato, our chips and a side of bearnaise
sauce, for example, will have you wondering why lunch never tasted this good before.
Our Evening Dining menu on a Friday & Saturday night is also mouth wateringly good and a sample can be found on our website. The evening menu evolves throughout the year to mirror what is available from local & specialist suppliers.
* We serve Gluten Free. Diary free & Vegan options on our menu.
Always a lovely welcome. Food is of a very high standard and the menu is different from the usual chains. If its just coffee and cake you want rather than a meal, I don't think there's anywhere better. Give the tuning fork a try, it's good.
Lovely place good wholesome food and service.
Food and service was fantastic! I'll definitely be going back
Lovely food and service
Sam our server was amazing. Could not fault her at all! Look forward to seeing her on the next visit. The food was also superb! Every bite was delicious!
We come here often but decided to bring 2 friends for dinner. We all absolutely loved it. Everything was spot on down to the service (even though they had a party for a 55th on!) they were attentive. Will be back before you know it! Thank you :)
Food is amazing here and the portion sizes are really generous
Fantastic place, staff, food and atmosphere. And amazing cake!
Very slow service - understaffed? Not much choice for vegetarians. But a very convenient location for meeting people travelling on the M1. And staff are very pleasant.
Great food and service as always
Excellent menu, not your run of the mill pub food. Love the veggie options too - we will be back!
Great place to eat and offers dairy and gluten free food! Food is always great and tasty! Service is great and staff are very friendly.
Love this place, highly recommended. Everything is freshly cook and great value.
We’ve visited The Tuning Fork regularly over the past six months and have been generally impressed by the food and atmosphere. Where the establishment falls down is in its customer service, in particular a manager who seemingly lacks empathy and a Primadonna chef who calls the shots regardless of its impact on the customers. During our last visit, we found a 2 inch worm embedded in our monkfish. We fed-back to the staff who then spoke with the chef. This, apparently is perfectly natural and causes no harm. Whilst we accepted this explanation, the dish had gone cold and our appetite for the fish had understandably diminished. Where the restaurant underperformed is they failed to offer an alternative dish and despite apologising, still expected full payment for the dish at the end. Only when we complained again did the agree to reduce the cost of the individual dish by 50%. On top of that, the manager seemed aloof, preferring to let the junior staff member handle the situation rather than taking charge and ensuring the customer was happy. A little more customer empathy by the manager and chef would have really helped- perhaps a free glass of wine would have made us feel a little more justified in our complaint - as it was, we felt that we had inconvenienced the chef by complaining- and that is where The Tuning Fork hits a wrong note.
Food was amazing
Lovely place for lunch or tea and cake. I find the tables are far to close to get and often have plates coming past your head from the kitchen area. The food is wonderful though and you might find yourself coming back another day to fit a cake in.
Been a few times. Food is always excellent, lovely friendly staff, easy parking. Really good for gluten free food.
I have visited the Tuning Fork twice now. Both times the food has been so tasty and well presented, however on both occasions we have found the service to be exceptionally slow, we waited 40-45 mins on both occasions for our food, others who had came in after us, were served well before. The first time, we were waiting 45 mins for our lunch, of which my Dads meal was completely wrong. On arrival the waitress said the chef had realised he had made a mistake when playing, and can remake the dish he wanted but it would take an additional 25mins. My dad accepted the meal given to him originally, however this was very disappointing, no complimentary drink/% was offered when paying for the bill, which we found to be quite disappointing. Our second visit was for breakfast which was delicious, however again we were waiting over 40mins for it to arrive, without updates as to how long it will take. It’s a beautiful place, lovely and quality food. Just very very slow service in my experience.
Excellent food and service, highly recommended.
First visit and delighted with everything. The 'Specials Board' was very good and added just that something extra to the normal menu. Will not be our last!
Excellent service and food as always never disappointed
Amazing food, excellent service, brilliant value.
The food was ok , chips where poor my fish the night special was not a piece of fish but in bits. Our wait was so long we did have free drinks. The young lady who ran the night did her best and I believe a lot of the fault was not hers.
