Amazing food and amazing service 😊
If we compare you to similar restaurants in the area you are too expensive and the food just isn’t up to the standard for the price being charged. We eat out at least once, sometimes twice a week. We go to numerous restaurants in the area and we’re always looking for something different. We had a nice evening but we all felt that the bill was far too much. £21.50 for a piece of plaice covered in gravy? Which is what it basically was. Fish should be accompanied with a light sauce, both in colour and texture. Not a thick brown gravy with sliced mushrooms. On top of that you charged extra for vegetables? They should be included. £3.50 for a very small pot of greens? Come on! I’m sorry but we won’t be recommending you to our friends or returning. Redcoats is much nicer and even The Chequers at Bradbury End is superior to The Tilbury. Their food is excellent and much more reasonably priced. That’s why we are eating there on Christmas Day. Your service was good overall, although we did have to wait a very long time for coffees and even then we had to keep trying to attract the waitresses attention. For a gastro pub you need to be much cheaper and have a lot more choice
Food and service is excellent however in the 2 times we have visited it has been quite cold which makes relaxing difficult.
Second visit here and we’ll definitely be coming back!
A great treat to find somewhere in Hertfordshire that takes its food seriously. Ordinarily I don't go for Sunday lunches in pubs, prefering to see what the chefs can do outside the straightjacket of roasties and gravy. Sunday was my wife's birthday so that decided the day. Great service and perfectly cooked food. My only gripe is about the amount of beef served, two wafer thin slices is verging on the mean, the veg was so good it didn't matter, but still . . . We will return but probably on a Saturday.
We had Sunday lunch yesterday. Superb as always. Thank you
The most amazing Sunday roast! Friendly staff too.
As always, the food is delicious. Great service. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. One of our favourite places. Tom is an excellent chef. His menus are so innovative too. Love it.
Fantastic & delicious. Thank you
Always delicious food, lovely atmosphere, never disappointed when we visit here.
Disappoint after a 50mimute wait that venison was tough and we had to wait again for another meal to be cooked Food we did eat on the second attempt was as normal excellent (didn’t have the venison the second time) Thought there may have been a goodwill gesture of a free coffee or drink while we had to wait, however there was none
The staff were so friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was amazing with great prices considering the high quality of the food.
Yet another lovely evening at the Tilbury.
Food was excellent. Staff very friendly
best in town!
A friendly welcome is always on offer and the staff are super efficient. Never disappointed !
Lovely Sunday lunch ... Perfect
Really lovely evening, great food and atmosphere. Service was fab
Delicious, interesting and unique food in a really lovely setting. Tilbury never disappoints!
We had yet another lovely lunch with friends. We like the set menu because it is extremely good value, and it makes us try out different dishes that we might not necessarily have chosen from the a la carte menu. We have never been disappointed!
currently the best food and service for some distance.
We had the set menu. Starter of cod scampi delicious the main sausage and venison beans very rich. We tried as were intrigued but wouldn’t have again. Pan a cotta very disappointing very solid and covered in cream , unnecessary.
The food and service was excellent. However I found the environment a little noisy.
Unfortunately, we were seated in the main dining room and it was very loud!!! Too loud with little kids etc, found myself shouting to be heard. However, I will book again but will request to be seated in the smaller dining area as I thought the food very delicious - the gravy was well seasoned. My dessert of frozen toffee crumble was heaven. I can't believe I ate everything. I will be returning to sample the A La Carte menu which isn't available on Sundays. Thank you for the lunch!
Excellent evening of fine dining the tasting menu was superb
