About The Three Compasses
The Three Compasses is a gorgeous pub set in the heart of Aldenham, fitting in with the close community spirit and the homely, unique atmosphere we’ve created. Dine in our stunning restaurant with family, indulge in a spot of lunch with work friends in our Board Room, or relax in front of our roaring fires with a loved one in the evening. Our rotating ales and delicious lagers offer you a number of options for you to sip on whilst you soak up the sun in our lovely garden, letting your little ones play on our climbing frames to work up an appetite for dinner. All our menus are served alongside our Head Chef’s scrumptious in-house specials both daily and weekly, we simply cannot wait to show you what we’ve been working on and serve up the great food you expect from us. Welcome to The Three Compasses.
We waited for our food for over an hour and when it came my boyfriends burger was missing the bacon and had burnt cheese on it and I had about 10 chips which were cold when I ask for more the wait was too long so I they said they’d give me a refund but that didn’t happen
Such a shame the service is so hot and miss.
Thanks you to Coral our lovely waitress
Serving staff were lovely but everything was rather slow. We were told a number of time it was because the kitchen was so busy. We understood this but wasn’t sure why this meant a bowl of olives couldn’t be brought out to us.
Great place to have just a drink or meal.
Visited here on Saturday and wont be returning. Stood at the bar for at least 5 minutes without anyone even acknowledging we were there, all we wanted was to be shown to our table we had booked. Even though we had actually prebooked, no one could be bothered to show us to a table so we were left to find our own. Went to order food to then be told that there wouldnt be any food for over an hour. The bar tender was told this by what looked like the manager who couldnt even be bothered to tell us himself. Felt sorry for the bartender as it was not his fault. Pretty place on the outside but wasnt even busy so dont know why they couldnt serve any food. We didnt even receive an apology or a reason as to why.
Lovely food and great service!
We were a party of six (two grandparents, two parents and two kids) and had a lovely lunch on Easter Sunday! Although there was a small, initial problem with the booking, the staff went to great lengths to rectify and we then all enjoyed a lovely meal with friendly and helpful service. The pub itself is cosy and welcoming - especially with its roaring fire on a miserable day!
A truly disappointing meal on Easter Sunday. Some food served tepid, roast beef so tough as to be inedible and the slats on the table were full of old food debris which was unappetising and unhygienic at the same time! Server was very pleasant and we made our comments known before we left
The staff we very welcoming. We were sat by the window and it was cold, it was unfortunately a snowy weekend. I would return again and see what it’s like!
This was my second visit to the Three Compasses. The food was not as good as I remember and, although the service was good, it was very slow. Not sure if they were just having a bad day, but it was rather disappointing.
We had a truly awful time as the head chef was also the barman and manager! Food took forever to arrive and when it did was over Cooked hard and awful. See my reciews and others on Trip Advisor. Have also sent letter to Head office
DO NOT BOOK. Disgraceful restaurant and management. Disgusting food.
Food really disappointing
We had a nice mothers day meal at the 2 Compasses. The food on the whole was very good aside from the beef which was tasty but a little tough. We were sitting near the door that accesses the rear play area. I think the door is not intended to be used as a usual way to go back-and-forth more a fire exit or something that may be open in hot days in summer. Fellow customer kept going in and out of the door letting the cold air in - my frustration was more with fellow diners constantly in and out with their kids. Finally the door was locked but then someone else came directed by a member of staff and unlocked it again...Did not spoil the afternoon but I should have asked to move to another table.
Came here spontaneously on a weekend lunchtime when dog walking in the area, was very welcoming into bar area with dog and muddy boots and had a lovely time, so decided to book for my birthday dinner. Staff all very friendly and attentive even when busy on a saturday evening. Food was great, taste and presentation, we had a variety from the menu and deserts disappeared quickly! Only downside no cocktails as some ingredients not available. Beers and spirits good variety though. Will be back.
FIRST CLASS SERVICE. EXTREMELY TASTY FOOD.
Table we booked for 2.30 which was fine ordered drinks had to chase them up twice, ordered just mains, was brought over starters adviced not ours, Coke was flat and tastless returned to bar twice!! Food came which was ok not my choice of veg (red cabbage) asked for Sauces with meal again had to Chase up by the time they came dinner was nearly finished !!!! Asked for the bill and was overcharged we were charged £6.00 for child’s roast then £6.50 for a meal deal which we wasn’t told about otherwise my son would off had a pudding !!!! £15 for a Sunday roast is abit expensive if your gonna charge these prices you need to get your service sorted
The pub has been very nicely refurbished & layout is good. The home made soup was very good & so was dessert but the Sunday roast was disappointing. Our party had beef, lamb & chicken & all agreed it was just mediocre. Service wasn't great either- forgot to bring drinks & had to go to bar to ask for mint sauce. With many nice pubs doing good roasts, I think we'll try somewhere else next time.
We had a very poor meal but excellent service.
I have been to Three Compasses a few times for lunch and I always find it cold. Please warm your restaurant during this cold weather. Menu is varied and interesting which is why I’ve been back but have to dress up warmly!
Great local , friendly staff, chilled atmosphere
Service was incredibly slow, it took over 2 3/4 hrs for a meal for 6, the food was lovely and the staff were nice.
You should remove the shoulder or lamb from your main menu and serve it as a light meal. Never had such a poor quality serving. 3/4 of the plate full of greens, a tablespoon of potato gratin and four mouthfuls of lamb. Very poor for the price. Will no longer dine with you.
