Exquisite food in a relaxed environment. Great value for money. Highly recommended!
Starter served with major component missing (smoked duck and brioche but no pate). Unavailability of pate not explained on ordering or serving, only when subsequently questioned. I consider this very poor practice. The remainder of the meal was very enjoyable.
The food was wonderful, service attentive. I would say for the money the portions were incredibly small and not great value. If the portions were twice the size I’d return and recommend to others.
The food and drink was faultless. The service however, failed to live up to the same quality. The head waitress we found to be lacking warmth and friendliness. We asked her a few questions about the food and she replied as if it was a hassle, she gave us little more info than what we could read on the menu. The other waitress wouldn’t give eye contact nor would even communicate. Nobody was rude, but we did feel that the service all around, didn’t match the quality of the venue and food/drink. We chatted to a couple from another table in the shop afterwards and they had the same comment about the service as what we did. Hope that helps!
The set price menu should include some vegetables with the main course. Sides should be optional extras.
We had a lovely lunch and were well looked after. The view over the countryside was stunning.
We enjoyed absolutely delicious food from start to finish, the service was excellent and views amazing. What's not to enjoy. Thank you for making my birthday a day to remember!
A good place to take friends and visitors to.
Great food and service in a fantastic location. The service was excellent and they couldn't be more helpful. The good was impressive and accompanied by the extremely local wines the dining experience was superb! I am happy to staye that I would go again to The Swan.
As usual it was all prefect, nothing was to much trouble
Excellent service, very pleasant staff. I would suggest always being flexible to allow larger parties to be accommodated when more than 1 shareholder is dining in the group. It would be silly to insist on dividing say a party of 6 into 2 separate tables of 3 for the meal in order to avail of the discount for the group. Would appreciate a response on this.
Incredible food, Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes especially were out of this world!
Lovely lunch and wine. Younger staff seemed a bit inexperienced and not sure what to do with us when we arrived which meant that although our table was ready for us, we were kept waiting a bit before being sat down. But once seated we were take care of by someone more experienced. Good quality food - all very tasty and nicely presented.
Great food! The wine we ordered from the menu was out of stock, although we tried it 30 mins earlier downstairs and there were many bottles to sell... it’s okay if the resto is a different company, but then don’t partner with a vineyard ... Same for pre booking services, when I contacted the vineyard for my birthday visit ... sadly the image of the brand lost a bit on excitement for us.
Absolutely superb! Can’t fault it. A brilliant meal enjoyed by all. Thank you so much. We will definitely return.
Having eaten at the Swan many times over the last few years, I found the food less enjoyable than on previous visits. Bread was not delivered to the table until we asked for it, service was adequate and the menu choices were overall disappointing. As a lover of gooseberries, I got very excited about the almond sponge with gooseberries and ice-cream. Was saddened to find only 3 gooseberries on the plate! Come on The Swan, you can do much better than this!
Really disappointing. Food was over fussed and not well cooked. Service was inexperienced. Would not recommend.
On arrival asked if we wanted to sit in the bar. Given menus but then no one came to take drinks order. After 10 minutes ordered at the bar ourselves. Ate early in the evening and all the dinners were pushed down to one end of the restaurant, which was unnecessary given the number of tables that were free. No one came to take the wine order and when I asked one of the waitresses she said she couldn’t take it and so had to wait for someone else. This meant that the wine arrived after we had finished the starters. The wines were excellent. The lamb dish was under seasoned and the plates / food a little cold. The combination of lemon posset with dark chocolate is not a good one! Value for money was reasonable.
The food was fantastic, with the haddock soup the standout from the dishes we ordered. The service was not great; we ordered a table for five but were asked initially to squeeze onto a table of four. We also had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated, despite booking.
Good food and service, nice choice of modern menu and classics. Very nicely presented but portion size on the small size ... Nice for a treat !
We had a lovely meal for my sons birthday!
My only criticism would be the tonic water it ruined the gin, far to aromatic for a London dry I suggested either Fever Tree or Schweppes full fat to the bar man.
Visited for lunch after a tour, great tasting food, although gluten-free options were a little limited especially for dessert. As expected the Chapel Down selection of drinks was good, but the coffee was disappointing... the flat white was not what a flat white should be. Service wasn’t overly prompt, and we had to ask for the gluten free menu twice before it actually came. There were also a number of flies in the restaurant. The automatic 12.5% service charge added to the bill was probably too high for the level of service experienced.
Lovely presentation, although my fish wasn’t cooked through, it was all sorted out without fuss. The food was delicious.
