About The Swan
THE SWAN, CHAPEL DOWN
80-cover family-friendly restaurant. Privately roomed Chef’s Table. Terrace dining. Award-winning reds, rosés and whites, still and sparkling, from Chapel Down. Wine tastings, and guided tours of the vineyard and winery. Experience the finest locally and regionally-sourced produce, cooked to perfection, in an elegant, relaxed and informal environment.
We did have an issue with one of our dishes, but the manager sorted this out for us straight away and with no quibbles.
Felt that staff were new or inexperienced. They were quite nervous and tried clearing before all of us had finished eating. When we asked for more bread, the first response was that there was an extra charge - although when asked if we wanted water for the table we were not told it would be almost £4. Inconsistent and poor service for the type of restaurant, we’d expected more.
Very disappointing meal for my sisters 50th. Service from start to finish was poor. Theres nothing wrong with having young members of staff if there trained and attentive. Unfortunately this isn't the case. I've eaten several times in your other establishments and this is by far the worst.
Food v. good. Negatives: the seat of my chair was quite stained, and the table itself felt rather sticky. My napkin had holes in it - it was worn out. Minor details that let down the overall experience.
As a party of four we unanimous felt that overall this was a particularly enjoyable dining experience. The quality of the food and its cooking and preparation was exceptionally good. As lovers of Chapel Down wines we were well catered for. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and polite albeit, in some cases, a little inexperienced. The absence of a common fault in many restaurants, excess background noise, was welcome. The minor criticisms we had were the limited menu. There was no "safe go to" for the unadventurous who may not want fish. A simple steak of chicken breast option might be a useful addition. Again referring to the menu a darker, perhaps larger print would have made it easier to read. But I stress; there are niggly points, the meals were superb.
3rd visitto the swan - excellent again thankyou
Great location, food and wine all lovely.
Très bonne adresse.
Consistently very good food, drink and service! Well worth the hour plus drive for lunch.... we will be back.
Great venue for a meal after visiting the vineyard. Well made food & the wine list, not surprisingly containing many Chapel Down wines (no bad thing), is well priced.
The Swan manages to do everything well without seeming to try - from the initial greeting through choosing drinks and food and discussing dessert options there was always a sense that everyone was there to make you happy. It was a fabulous way to spend my birthday and we are looking forward to the next time we are able to come over for a meal.
My second visit and it didn’t disappoint. The quality of the food is exceptional.
Food was superb and really great value for money
Wonderful meal. Excellent service by staff. Massive thank you to Jake, who kindly dropped us back into town. Highly recommended.
The Best Lunch we have ever had, Anywhere!
A wonderful birthday meal. We were upgraded to the private dining room ,ideal for our deaf aided child as it was much quieter and she was able to engage fully without any music and no background hum. This was more by chance than design but we are grateful as it just made the day more special for us all .
Service let's you down. We were booked into a wine tasting and had allowed 2hrs for lunch 4 people, I had to chase the waitress to take payment so we could go. Shame as everything else is lovely.
Fabulous Sunday lunch, great service! Will definitely be coming back would recommend this restaurant.
Excellent staff & food was lovely, very tasty & memorable
Absolutely amazing location, fantastic and delicious food, very attentive and friendly staff and just a perfect dinner all round! Would definitely recommend!!
A lovely experience and great food and service.
Great food as always - staff attentive.
The whole experience at your restaurant was everything I could have wished for The reception staff the waiters waitresses the kitchen staff I send many thanks for making it so memorable
Disappointed. We attended for a special occasion at lunch time. Food was average. My sisters dessert was awful. Rhubarb was raw. She did pass on her feedback to a member of staff who was extremely rude and dismissive. I would be embarrassed if anyone in my team behaved that way. Staff were generally rushed in a not busy service.
Food was very impressive and for the price point was incredible value for money. However you advertise on your website that you're family friendly, however you don't offer any type of children's menu (even if it was the same food, just in smaller portions) which would have been appreciated.
