About The Sussex Ox
A country pub with its own organic farm always serving the finest local food and drink.
Good food and friendly service.
Loved the relaxing and friendly atmosphere of the place, plus the country setting and simple decor. The menu is imaginative, wholesome and fresh. I met a friend here for lunch and we intend to make it our meeting place in the future.
Very disappointed after reading reviews. Was expecting a stunning roast dinner for the price and served up 2 slices of beef that looked like they came off a deli counter, roast potatoes were not crispy and carrots undercooked. Tables are squeezed together and could hear all about the table next door blood disorder and how it is medically treated along with a barking dog (I was aware it was a dog friendly pub) that was constantly being told to stop barking. Made for not a pleasurable experience. Maybe it was not such a good idea sitting the dog near other diners. When you are paying over £120 for a meal you are expecting a quality dinner and it was far from it.
Lovely place to eat food very nice would recommend
Ifood was lovely but the lady that was working was lovely and her costumer service was really good very friendly and chatting with all costumers
The potted salt beef could have been served at a better temperature. It was cold from the fridge high meant it's flavour was less than it might have been
Lovely welcoming friendly pub. Good food great service, lovely atmosphere.
Very warm welcome, fabulous views with a homely feel. Food was great and good value.
Table ready on time, lovely roast pork & trimmings. Staff attentive but looking weary after all day service at 6pm! Received a tomato plant as a gift in leaving, will send a pic when we have a crop 😊
Really good food, nice portion sizes and good, swift service too. Will book again in the future.
The Sussex Ox is a lovely pub. The staff are very friendly and it has a cosy atmosphere. A little gem of a place, almost trapped in its own time bubble. A great place to go for a traditional old pub experience.
The best pub food we’ve had in a very long time. Fantastic!!!
All very good. Only negative was that the room was a little cold.
My parents had visited on the Saturday previously and told us that the food was gorgeous so we went back there with them for Mother’s Day. Not sure if it was because of how busy they were but our parents were not as impressed on this visit. Positives: polite and friendly waitress, bright and light table, meat was fatty but very tender, nice flavours, free tomato plants when we left was a nice touch, good parking. Negatives: vegetables cold even after returning plates to us after being taken back (hot veg came out after five mins so we did have this in the end), some seats very uncomfortable (saggy or hard base), chicken was a bit tough. We would go again but not on such a busy day. For a £19 roast, we would like all the food hot.
Second visit in a week. Really impressive customer service and the food was brilliant best burger by a country mile
Great place to eat, good service and tasty food, try the sausage and mash yum yum
A delightful setting, welcoming & attentive staff, food excellent. We will be returning :)
Very pleasant evening, friendly staff and nice warm atmosphere. Food was nicely presented and tasty, although maybe some tortilla chips with the butter bean hummus would have been easier to eat it with. The steak was excellent.
The wine list is really good, food staff and atmosphere all spot on - Will definitely come back next time we're in Sussex!
Good morning, we had lunch with you on Sunday and were very much looking forward to it, unfortunately the cooking let you down. We were a party of five and three of us had the ham hock starter which was good. One of our party had the braised celery which is probably the most appalling excuse for a starter than I have ever seen . Four pathetic pieces of celery, a few grapes and some endive. Please could you google braised celery and see what it should look like. Unfortunately those of us who chose the pork were also disappointed, two dry slices of pork on huge roast potatoes , the size of which I assume is used to pad out a pretty poor lunch. I am not trying to be vindictive in my feedback but I cannot tell you how disappointed I was at the standard of cooking, especially when we had guests with us...it was embarrassing. Your staff are delightful and were obviously busy but we never felt neglected, your food needs some attention.
The starters were the highlight - absolutely delicious! The roasts were yummy, in generous portions and the service just delightful.
We had a very nice time and will be back again.
Great food and drink. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. Couldn't ask for more.
Second visit to The Sussex Ox in as many weeks. A very warm welcome by any member of staff who saw us. The atmosphere was also warm and friendly. I believe there have been one or two changes in the kitchen area and the food was excellent. All three courses looked and tasted fantastic. Well done to all involved at The Ox and see you again real soon.
