About The Sussex Ox
A country pub with its own organic farm always serving the finest local food and drink.
A real gem! Superb customer service.
A great find and well worth the drive from Hove.
Nice friendly pub and good food
Disappointing roast dinner. 2 slices of roast lamb, hard reheated roast potatoes.
We had a lovely lunch. Staff very attentive and patient waiting for us to decide what to choose! Good value.
Always a friendly service and the views are stunning....
Great idea; nice pub; good drinks; good staff but let down by a roast beef which had sat in water and turned mushy. It was like pate
The pub is in a great location and the staff and atmosphere were both good. Unfortunately the food was not of great quality in that the meat in the roast dinners was overcooked and tough and the roast potatoes were undercooked. The bowls of broccoli in cheese sauce appear to have been sitting under heat lamps for a considerable period as the cheese sauce had dried up. The two vegetarians who both had the aubergine dish were also disappointed. For the price we felt the food should have been to a higher standard. We have eaten at the Pelham Arms in Lewes recently which has similar;y priced menu and the food is excellent
Excellent local pub with grub from the owners farm and local beers. Fantastic garden and great destination for one of the many fab walks in the Cuckmere Valley
We were delighted with the use of the front room and the outside tables - perfect for the number of folk attending. We were so lucky with the weather! Variety, amount of food and service was great. We had many comments praising our choice of venue.
Service impeccable, beautiful pub with a great atmosphere. Great starters, great puddings, great drinks. Steak was fab, lamb was v tender but a little bland. It was served on a chickpea and tomato base which wasn’t great as the sauce was far too sweet. Not a great combo. All in a truly lovely evening and we’ll definitely be back.
I’m so pleased to have discovered another country pub that is still thriving. Booking on a Sunday seemed essential as the place was packed! Plenty of parking. We went on a Sunday lunchtime, so didn’t have the ‘full’ menu to choose from. Instead it was all about the roast dinners with a couple of other options. Delicious roast. Only scored 4 stars out of 5 from me as the roast potatoes were the usual disappointment when eating out! Certainly not crispy. However puddings were delicious. This is a truly lovely place to enjoy a nice meal. The pub itself has a bar area with tables and also a restaurant area with tables. Both looked lovely and I would have been happy sitting in either. As it happened we were in the restaurant area. We will definitely be revisiting this pub, apart from the roast potatoes (which are fine if you like them like that), I can’t think of anything negative to say. All good.
Lunch for 8. Very good beer and cider, excellent local produce cooked extremely well, wine list interesting and staff really welcoming. No faults identified!
My girlfriend and I went for a meal on Friday, and it was disappointing. The menu was limited to one type of beef steak(Rump!) and one lamb steak. For an establishment that boast having its own organic farm and call the Sussex Ox, we were expecting some fabulous steaks, but it was not the case. My partner had the pigeon to start, which was a single pigeon breast, that was over cooked and over priced(£7.95) Game dealer only pay 25p for these in the feather! The rump steak was quite nice, but small and over priced. The table service was poor, whenever we wanted another drink, I had to go to the bar myself, which again was poor. We won’t be rushing back!
Absolutely love this pub, it’s relaxed, very welcoming, in a beautiful setting and the food is fabulous, it never lets us down!! It’s slightly pricey for food compared to other pubs which is the only reason for the 4 star on value but I’d highly recommend anyone to visit.
Everything about the evening was perfect! Staff were very friendly and efficient and the food was outstanding! Highly HIGHLY recommended!
I was recommended to this pub and it fully came up to expectations. Tasty food with the meat coming from their own farm and good service. We took along a friend's dog and she was welcomed too.
We were staying in the next village so found a nice walk to the Ox for a drink, then booked for Sunday lunch. We will come back when we're next in the area
Delightful location with stunning views of the South Downs. Lovely to have a vegan option on the menu - plant based milk for coffee would be great next time!
One of my favourite places to eat in the area.......food is superb!
Ordered Rib eye steak with blue cheese source, got rump steak with pepper corn source, could of been a little warmer. I chose to accept what I had though !!
Food is always excellent and staff very welcoming.
I proposed to my girlfriend in this pub so it will always hold at least one happy memory. Food is great and the staff really friendly and knowledgable not to mention it’s character and fantastic views over the South Downs. Great place to visit!
Possibly the best vegetarian burger I’ve ever had.
