About The Stables Kitchen @ Hopetoun House
The Stables Kitchen
One of the delights of Hopetoun is a visit to the Stables Kitchen, a clever and sensitive restoration of the 18th Century Adam Stables transformed into a comfortable and cosy eatery, complete with table service and a delicious contemporary menu. Only a few miles from Edinburgh, you can escape to another world and soak up the relaxed atmosphere within a spectacular setting.
Home Cooked and Freshly Prepared Menu
The ingredients we use in our cooking are important to us. Food provenance in the form of local, Scottish, good welfare and ethically traded ingredients is a key element to ensure we are providing fabulous food quality with minimal environmental impact and are supporting the local economy.
We love celebrating what Scotland has to offer, and our chefs prepare our menu using seasonally Scottish ingredients wherever possible. The eggs in our baking are Scottish free range and we’re proud to use Graham’s Family Diary milk, butter and cream throughout our menu. As well as this, our delicious Sunday roast dinners are a crowd-pleaser, using local produce and meat.
We do hope you enjoy your visit and agree that our menu reflects some of the best food Scotland has to offer. It is advised to book in advance to guarantee a table at your preferred time.
Traditional Afternoon Teas
For a special celebration, treat someone to a unique experience in style, and book a traditional full Scottish Afternoon Tea.
At Hopetoun House our Afternoon Tea is a gourmet delight offering filled sandwiches, homemade fruit scones with lashings of organic cream and Hopetoun strawberry jam, along with a fabulous assortment of freshly made savoury and sweet treats. Included is a pot of loose leaf organic, fair trade tea, speciality coffee or a rich Belgian hot chocolate.
We also have a wonderful selection of treats available on our children’s menu including our Afternoon Tea, specifically designed for small fingers.
Delicious food, lots of hot tea. Nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic waiter service from Juan. Highly recommend afternoon tea for a special treat.
Overall experience was excellent, couldn't fault it in any way, sure to be back again sometime.
Really enjoyed the whole experience will definitely visit again.
Professional yet personal service
Great place and good service
While the food was above average and the waitress was pleasant. The service was bellow average. We had to ask for clean plates to use when eating our sweet treats,,then nask for our dirty dishes to be removed to give us more room to enjoy our second course. The surrounding were cozy and clean. Thanks for giving me this opertunity.
I would tone the music down in terms of volume and style
Excellent venue, great food, great staff and service especially Mahdi the young waitress who served us on our visit. A very pleasant afternoon with a great afternoon tea.
Afternoon tea was lovely. So much more food than we imagined and everything very tasty. Service was great and with a smile! We all had a wonderful time at the Stables and would certainly reccommend you.
Well prepared, very friendly service and good value food. Thx a lot
Had afternoon Tea for 4, service was excellent , thought that there could have been a better selection of sandwiches as part of the tea, also could have been displayed better. The cost is the same price per person as in a Edinburgh 5 star Hotel however standard not quite the same.
A most enjoyable afternoon tea in a unique setting.
I have had several afternoon teas at the Stables over the years. The last one was in July 2017. I talked to the chef manager and she said she was moving to the US. Came for afternoon tea July 12. The sandwiches were really awful,no filling. The pastries were not great either. The only thing that was good were the scones, clotted cream and jam. The tea food items have really changed and not favorably. I will not be booking another tea in the future.
Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The afternoon tea was well presented and tasted delicious. Overall the whole experience was lovely from start to finish - I will definitely be back!
The food was lovely once it got to the table. I booked a table for afternoon tea and it was 50 minutes after the time the table was booked for before the food arrived. The place is beautiful and the staff friendly. Food great just very slow service.
Food was delicious. Unfortunately the service was poor. We had pre-booked for 1.30pm. Our tea order was taken and served reasonably quickly (though no tea menus were offered). However it was over an hour later before any food appeared. By which time all the tea was gone! No extra tea offered until we were ready to leave. It was unfortunate as we were celebrating a special birthday. Service not efficient/not enough servers.
Service was so poor, it was unbelievable. Although I had booked afternoon tea for 3 people, we were served the food for 2 with no tea - had to request the tea which was served without milk. The 3rd afternoon tea was for a child who had to wait 10 mins for sandwiches to be brought over and another 10 mins later for her full afternoon tea to be brought to be to her. This was a Birthday surprise which was ruined by very poor service. For the price I paid, I would expect all of us to be served correctly and at the same time.
6 adults and 1 child so an expensive special occasion. Charged extra for coffee from machine rather than filter which was watery and flavourless. Expected cakes of similar quality to art galleries in town run by same company but the chocolate brownie was dry and overcooked and the cake was also dry. Scones good. 10+ tables waiting to be cleared in cafe when we arrived. Overall an expensive disappointment for my mother's 80th birthday and complaining would have upset her.
This was the ideal start to our Rotary Weekend, which really impressed our German Visitors. They loved the surroundings and the whole presentation. Your staff coped very well with the situation when two groups arrived late. A Great experience, pity we live 400 miles away. Rotary Club of Ipswich Orwell
The food was delicious, well prepared and high quality. The atmosphere was very quiet and relaxing. I cannot comment on value for money as this was a gift. I would highly recommend this afternoon tea in a beautiful setting.
Being a lover of afternoon tea, I enjoyed the well presented and well thought out selection on offer here. Each item on offer was freshly prepared and delicious and I would heartily recommend this to others looking for an enjoyable afternoon tea experience.
A wonderful experience, good food and excellent service.
Lovely tea and attentive service. Food was delightful but perhaps the option of more sandwiches and less treats would be good.
Lovely setting, kind staff and good food
FABULOUS. COULDN'T RECOMMEND THE STABLES KITCHEN ENOUGH. HUGE ROOM IN LOVELY SURROUNDS. STAFF WERE LOVELY AND CHEF HERSELF COULDN'T BE NICER. ORDERED AFTERNOON TEA AND WOW WE WEREN'T DISAPPOINTED, CATERED FOR A MEMBER OF OUR GROUP WHO WAS GLUTEN FREE NO PROBLEM AND MY FRIEND SAID IT'S THE NICEST GLUTEN FREE CAKES AND SANDWICHES SHE'S EVER HAD. THE SANDWICHES AND CAKES WERE MORE THAN ENOUGH, TASTED JUST SUBLIME AND LOVED THE CUTEST CUP OF SOUP EVER, LOVELY TOUCH. GOOD SELECTION OF TEA. DIDN'T FEEL IN THE LEAST BIT RUSHED. WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK. 10 OUT OF 10.
