About The Stables Kitchen @ Hopetoun House
The Stables Kitchen
One of the delights of Hopetoun is a visit to the Stables Kitchen, a clever and sensitive restoration of the 18th Century Adam Stables transformed into a comfortable and cosy eatery, complete with table service and a delicious contemporary menu. Only a few miles from Edinburgh, you can escape to another world and soak up the relaxed atmosphere within a spectacular setting.
Home Cooked and Freshly Prepared Menu
The ingredients we use in our cooking are important to us. Food provenance in the form of local, Scottish, good welfare and ethically traded ingredients is a key element to ensure we are providing fabulous food quality with minimal environmental impact and are supporting the local economy.
We love celebrating what Scotland has to offer, and our chefs prepare our menu using seasonally Scottish ingredients wherever possible. The eggs in our baking are Scottish free range and we’re proud to use Graham’s Family Diary milk, butter and cream throughout our menu. As well as this, our delicious Sunday roast dinners are a crowd-pleaser, using local produce and meat.
We do hope you enjoy your visit and agree that our menu reflects some of the best food Scotland has to offer. It is advised to book in advance to guarantee a table at your preferred time.
Traditional Afternoon Teas
For a special celebration, treat someone to a unique experience in style, and book a traditional full Scottish Afternoon Tea.
At Hopetoun House our Afternoon Tea is a gourmet delight offering filled sandwiches, homemade fruit scones with lashings of organic cream and Hopetoun strawberry jam, along with a fabulous assortment of freshly made savoury and sweet treats. Included is a pot of loose leaf organic, fair trade tea, speciality coffee or a rich Belgian hot chocolate.
We also have a wonderful selection of treats available on our children’s menu including our Afternoon Tea, specifically designed for small fingers.
First time having afternoon tea at Hopetoun House and we will definitely be back! We were there to celebrate my mum's birthday and she was made to feel special by the lovely Kat from start to finish. Thank you all again, look forward to seeing you again soon. Nicole and Kathleen Allison
Outstanding customer service, the staff were all amazing and friendly. The food is excellent and I highly recommend the afternoon tea, it’s the best I have tasted in a long time. Thank you all so very much for making my friends birthday lunch so rememberable!
Very interesting place, rally getaway from the city. Highly recommend
The Stables Kitchen itself left me feeling quite cold against the wonderful surroundings of Hopetoun House. The staff were attentive but never felt like we had a dedicated server which would have enhanced our experience. I personally only liked the filings in one of the sandwich choice. Might have been good to have been asked beforehand if the choice to be served was suitable. We asked for fresh plates after the sandwiches but were only given one plate for the two of us so my husband had to spread scones on a plate with remnants of the sandwiches on it. Have experienced other afternoon teas before and this sadly did not compare as favourably.
Lovely afternoon tea at The Stables Kitchen. Will definitely return.
The Yorkshire pudding wrap was wonderful. My husband had the steak and ale pie which was also amaxing
Great selection of dishes to choose from and it's nice to see something different instead of just sandwiches. The squahsed avo was delicious as was the rarebit and scotch egg
Have been a couple of times now for afternoon tea and still one of the best around.
A delicious afternoon tea and superb service. We'll be back. Thank you.
Last year, when visiting Blenheim Palace, we had a decidedly average lunch at extortionate prices. The Stables was far superior in service, price, quality & cleanliness - they should pay you a visit to see how it should be done! Great job and many thanks, especially to Juan, your lovely Spanish server!
Lovely tea, homemade scones, loaf, jams etc. We were well looked after. Good value for money, and in a beautiful setting.
Having arrived, we waited several minutes to be attended to and sat at our booked table, with the waitress saying she would return in a couple of minutes to tell us the specials and take our order. We watched as later diners were show to their tables, and another waitress eventually took an order from one of these tables. Eventually she came to ours where we complained about the lack of attention for some 15 minutes. Despite the time being only 12.45pm, they already had a shortage of food and drink items. When the food eventually arrived it was good, however the lack of sufficient staff, lack of interested staff and shortage of items means we will not be returning to this establishment, and cannot recommend it to anyone.
Make it known before ordering that roast dinners are on a sharing platter. I wouldn’t have ordered this had I known. However the quality of the food was very good.
Received a gift voucher of afternoon tea for two. Decided to make an afternoon of it and also visited the house. This was my first visit despite living in Edinburgh. The house is great and well worth a visit. So are the afternoon teas. Lovely selection of savouries and sweet treats all served up by very friendly and courteous staff.
I visited the Stables with my mother in law and son. The service was great, as was the atmosphere. I had the ploughman's lunch which cost £12. I was slightly shocked when it arrived because the portions were absolutely tiny, half a slice of ham (if that), a shaving of cheddar, the tiniest pile of salad with two squares of tomato.... It's a shame because for that price you expect some food to eat!!
Dirty cup when we arrived. Scones were the highlight. Service ok.
Service was very pleasant and helpful. Afternoon tea was excellent and very fresh.
This is the second time I have taken afternoon tea here and I will not be doing it again. The quality has most definitely deteriorated and the cost is not justified (it was before). For example, the soup cup had dribbles dried on down the side and the wee salad sprigs decorating the sandwich plate was wilted and warm. The sweet tray was average at best, although the mousse was delicious. All in all, I wish we’d gone to a chain like Patisserie Valerie.
The kids afternoon tea was fab and well priced. We will be back.
Would give 10 stars if we could.
Friendly staff.Lovely atmosphere and food was delicious.
Great new menu from last year, the small Plates offer nice choices
