About The Square Restaurant
Serving fresh, local produce with a kiwiana flare, in a modern and charming atmosphere, the Square Restaurant with à la carte lounge offers semi-formal dining in contemporary surroundings.
We are sorry but this restaurant is not currently accepting online reservations through ResDiary.
We really enjoyed our meal in your restaurant. It was only let down by service attention to detail e.g. I had to ask for a cheese knife for my cheeseboard and ask to have my water refilled. However I am angry that I am unable to eat there on Sunday night and Monday night as the entire restaurant was booked out by a tour group. One main reason for staying with you for 3 nights was because I wanted to eat at your restaurant for 3 nights. If I was told when I made my room resignation that I could not eat at the restaurant I would not have booked. As a Accur member I expect more transparency and respect.
We were welcomed with a smile and well looked after throughout our dinner meal. The cuisine suited our tastes.
We love dining here when we're in Christchurch. I think the standouts are the entrées and mains. We have never been disappointed. The wait staff ate friendly and helpful. We get a discount using Accor Card, however I think the menu prices are reasonable. It would be great to see s slightly more varied wine list. The lamb shoulder sharing plate is outstanding. Thank you once again.
Went for the Xmas lunch. Was a great event. Service and food very good.
The service was great with helpful friendly staff, but the food was a let down. My chicken was dry, the vegetables were stringy and the salad wilted. My partners mashed potatos for her lamb shanks looked and tasted like they were from a packet and just had water added to them.
The service was professional and friendly. The menu was somewhat confusing in that other dishes had to be ordered to complete/compliment the main course. Delivery of the main course was very slow - over 50 minutes. The wine selection for the "free"drink should be extended.
My husband and I were really looking forward to dining in The Square Restaurant but the Dinner menu was really disappointing in every aspect. The glass of wine tasted wrong, also. The breakfast met our expectations. Jeanette
Staff were friendly and attentive. The food exceeded expectations and was well-seasoned and a generous serve. Presentation was of a high level. The lamb sharing plate was a highlight. We used our accor card for dining benefits, but still thought the pricing was very reasonable regardless. We would definitely dine here again.
Dinner. Menu is on a large clip board. It feels like you’re on a field trip. The menu states small medium large dishes no sides so you have no warning from either the menu or staff that your tiny piece of $32 eye fillet is only accompanied by an awful vinegary sauce. No veg or potato in sight. I recommend the breakfast.
Beautiful food and great service
we did make our feelings known to the waitress , who at the end gave us a complimentary drinks voucher ( which was a nice gesture ) but it was a very disappointing evening . we have stayed at the Novotel previously and thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant , so on this trip although staying at the Rydges i went on line to see the menu which was still as delicious as we remembered so booked on line , i gave all my details , i got a confirmation of the booking. 3 times you had the opportunity to inform me of the reduced menu ( understandable to an extent ) on the website , by phone , or in my confirmation email , so you can understand our disappointment to arrive at the restaurant with no set tables , so no atmosphere and to be presented with the menu which did not contain what we had been looking forward to all day. it was a miserable night , we are not familiar with the city so stayed . the meal was tasty but not amazing , sorry . this has taught me to not take for granted that things are as they appear , like on your website , i shall be physically using the old fashioned phone from now on to find out what to expect.
The atmosphere only suffered because of lack of patronage due to Covi 19. We once again enjoyed our visit to the Square Restaurant and look forward to the next time. The food was well presented and the "surprise" desert for my wife's birthday was beyond expectations.
We stay here several time a year and dine whenever possible. The staff are invariably friendly, professional and attentive. Our meals last night were presented well, of ample quantity and good quality. We will be back Saturday week !
We were there for dinner on Christmas. The service was very slow. I'm guessing with the holiday that there was limited staff. We have two family members with nut allergies. We ordered desserts and the descriptions did not include mention of nuts, though it was obvious when they came that they included nuts. This was disappointing and potentially life threatening. Please include accurate descriptions so guests can make informed decisions before ordering or eating somethings with hidden ingredients.
Very delicious food and fantastic service
When we arrived at the restaurant there was no booking even though I had booked online and had a confirmation email
Service was bad. Had to wait 5 minutes to get seated. The egg cooking chef was rude. Lined up first but he gave to a person who lined up after first. Staff was rude. Food was average.
If we hadn’t had Accor plus discounts the prices would have been over the top. As it was, we find the price of wine both at Novotel and Ibis very, very heavy. However, we enjoyed the meal, and the wine, but wouldn’t like to do it too often.
Service from serving team was excellent. Only comment is the Vegetarian main needs to be changed - Too many chick peas...but overall food is really great.
Part of an enjoyable evening.
Staff were very welcoming and helpful. There was a good range of food. I had the two course dinner special. The entree and main were both excellent.
Delicious food. Great service. 👍🏿👍🏿
We were so very disappointed with the time we waited once seated to get our drinks.. 20 minutes later we were advised our choice of wasn’t chilled or available. Another 10 minutes went by until our second choice arrived. Our entrees & mains were fantastic & tasty. Our desert tasting plate was a huge disappointment.. I thought a tasting plate was made of all small bites on the desert menu. Not memorable at all. It wasn’t as though we hadn’t booked in advance.. the secret to good service is to at least offer & serve drinks straight away. Seemed like the staff were on a training session!!!
We were not that impressed with our night out unfortunately. We ordered a bottle of red got given it with two glasses not even poured. We found a table and opened the bottle and poured our own glasses. put lid back on then another man came a long and undid the lid and put it beside the bottle? We asked to be seated at our table and the had to take our own drinks and bottle with us, so had to put the lid back on...…. My husband ordered the fillet steak and received the fish fillet which was taken away and returned after I had finished my meal We were offered some garlic bread to have while we waited but then he wouldn't be able to eat his steak so we passed on that. When we left my husband said we will never be eating their again! Kind Regards Katey Gregg
Very nice meal in great atmosphere.
