About The Spiced Pear
Remember the days when you could get a proper afternoon tea – plump sultana-pitted scones, oozing with Yorkshire clotted cream and sweet strawberry jam?
At The Spiced Pear, our very special Afternoon Teas come with homemade scones, sandwiches, cakes and all the trimmings, alongside a good choice of warming teas and coffees . Relax in front of our lovely open fire in our unique vintage tearoom – with its retro bric-a-brac and recipe wallpaper – or take tea on our balcony terrace, where the stunning views are free!

It was truly the most heavenly afternoon I have had in a long time.
I’ve visited several times now and nothing is too much trouble for the girls serving. The mushroom soup was to die for along with the festive afternoon tea .... it was a belly buster
I have always found the waiting staff to be friendly and attentive. The only thing i would like to mention is that we have always had ask for any condiments and sometimes it has taken a while to arrive. It may be a good idea to have a condement tray already on each table as this would make the staffs job a lot easier rather than having to go back and forth to the kitchen.
Fabulous food and excellent service
Festive afternoon tea a real treat, thank you
Always a pleasure to lunch at the Pear. The staff are lovely, the food is superb and the atmosphere friendly and relaxing.
We did provide feedback during the visit. We have frequented the spiced pear on many occsisions, however Wednesday was the first time in about 18 months. Considering an offer of buy one get one free was being promoted on this day the tea room seemed nothing but short staffed, every table pulling sarah left right and centre, not a good start. The 'festive' afternoon tea was poor value for money compared to previous visits, less quality, less value. The Yorkshire puddings were not cooked, sent back and fresh sent out again uncooked - raw batter. The turkey was dry and chewy where it had dried out on the edges, gravy was way too salty. We ordered from the children's menu a ham sandwich, which when arrived was dried bread - no butter, for a child's sanehich? Surely if it's from a children's menu it should be presented for children? Our afternoon tea deserts consisted of two mince pies (of two versions) extremely poor value! Previously there were a number of desserts that provide an array of flavours - as an afternoon tea should be! There was also a mouse - no flavour at all and amusingly the spoon provided did not fit into the glass! All in all, for the price, the quality and quantity of food has dropped dramatically which is a shame as the tea room is a beautiful setting and environment to be in. We fed this feedback to the owner who took on board the comments, and also directly to the chef who appeared nothing more than a grumpy teenager! If it wasn't on offer, and knowing the quality of food previously served we would have paid under protest. We also had an almost full loyalty card that the owner was confused by! - shocking. Sadly one of favourite places to visit has gone down hill fast.
It's such a lovely place I really enjoy it shall be back again soon
Excellent as always
Really nice food and friendly staff
Initial service was a little on the slow side, however once we had selected what we wanted for afternoon tea the food did arrive in a timely manner. The choice for a vegetarian afternoon tea was disappointing, our vegetarian had egg mayonnaise, and cheese two ways, one of which was just sliced cheese. There is a need to be more creative when accommodating vegetations. If it wasn't for the above two points I would have scored you five stars all round.
All fine except for no longer being able to leave with a pear drop - although I like mint imperials they are often found at restaurants, unlike pear drops!
Excellent Traditional Afternoon Tea best ever beautiful setting friendly service nothing too much trouble well worth a visit.
Lovely afternoon tea with family. We had both traditional and gentleman’s afternoon teas, lovely.
Visited the Spiced Pear for my husband's birthday and we absolutely loved it.
I cant say enough how much i love visiting here. The food is btyful, the fizz just finishes it off. The atmosphere is just perfect. If i was to say anything i just wish you could opt out of the smoked salmon & have another egg instead
Absolutely perfect experience in every way.
We had the 'gentlemens afternoon tea' for tea using a 2 for £25 offer. The food was delightful and the pricing so competitive - best afternoon tea all around!!
Very nice and loveiy atmosphere will come again
Love it here, always try to visit at least once a month, friendly staff, great food and value for money
Fantastic venue for my sister's surprise baby shower Thankyou very much
Two of the best afternoon teas around - the standard and the Yorkshire versions!
The afternoon tea is fantastic, lovely surroundings and it makes for a really special occasion. The tea served with it is very generous, the only thing id say personally is id prefer a little more savoury and one less cake! Also, more creme fraiche with the salmon sandwich and more even amount of chutney on the ham ones as we had one with lots and one with just one tiny bit! Very nice though and we both had a lovely time
