About Leigh Sawmill
Take a road trip to Leigh’s local, The Sawmill. Situated in the coastal town only 80kms out of Auckland, The Sawmill manages to feel like a newly discovered escape. The restaurant itself is homely and spacious, perfect for getting cosy in the colder months or heading to the outdoor courtyard for a sunny session. Each dish on the menu comes with a unique backstory, with The Sawmill’s chefs leaving their little own mark on each contemporary dish.
A great first time visit and we will be back and have also recommended the place to 2 of our friends. Well worth the drive.
Great atmoshphere and tons of space out the back for kids to run around while you lunch. We had a large booking for a 40th and they looked after us so well. GM is really organised and super friendly. And food is epic! Especially the beer battered fries and snapper pizza. Will be back soon for sure😊
The only negative is that my daughters meal seemed to have been forgotten so I had to chase it up. It came pretty quickly after that. Thanks, Sheryl
Love the atmosphere at the Sawmill & it’s been one of my fave places for many years. Unfortunately this time I was really disappointed with the soft tacos, very bland, tacos dry & tasteless. Potato skins & Kumara a chips excellent.
Great, friendly & welcoming staff and service with a great setting and very yummy value for money food.
A lovely spot with great food
No coffee in the room was only issue
good. pizza could have been nicer but was still good
Delicious food and friendly service. Quirky and slightly chaotic with it. Worth a visit if you're in the area
When we 1st arrived at the restaurant the staff could not have been more attentive. As it got busier however we felt a little forgotten over the back and had to keep calling out for service. Our food while delicious, took almost 1.5hours to arrive. Most dishes offered good value for money however 2 we felt were a little overpriced for what we got. Very small portion of fish and 1 piece of broccoli and a pretty basic salad for $30. And the pork belly sandwich was in the diners words "half a sandwich" for $22. Otherwise very friendly, great venue and we would definitely come again!
The food was great, lots of drinks to choose from. The vintage shop right next door...score!
I worked here years ago and it was then vibrant friendly and food and service were top notch. Dinner tonight was appallingly late, our entrees came half an hour apart and my meal was cold, then my partners meal finally turned up wrong. The food quality has definitely dropped and though the manager was lovely and apologetic the other floor staff were vacant and unfriendly and we noticed upon driving home that we’d been charged extra for the wrong meal. Was pretty sad to go bad to what used to be such an iconic place and see it’s glow had dulled so much.
Great place to have a leisurely dinner.
Serving sizes and sauses were not consistent over all at our table, but not a deal breaker.
Food was okay, fresh and hot. My husband got pizza which was good but said it had too much cheese on it. Chips were nice though. I’m vegan and gluten free and my options were very limited. I had to settle with a Greek salad minus the feta - not very exciting for dinner. I asked if they could put some roasted veg or quinoa in it and I got a few slices of grilled zucchini - not the most exciting dinner to be honest. Plus they put way too much oil on it. I’d work on getting some more allergy friendly options on the menu. Great atmosphere and playground for the kids. Good range of drinks and service was great.
Great atmosphere and awesome old sawmill machinery everywhere, lovely staff, nice lawn area. Food yummy, pork belly tacos delish! Summer salad was a bit weird - mostly Kale, minimal quinoa and other salad items, not what you’d expect. Hazy Deep creek beer on tap - yum.
Thank you for having us. We enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly staff who knew their menu well and options.
The servers did a great job considering how understaffed they were
The menu was vastly different then what was offered online. There was no salad options available that were mentioned on the website. Also the first two beers I ordered were not available. Staff seem over worked.
Pizzas a bit doughy but good flavour.
Friendly service, nice atmosphere and great night of music 😊
Another enjoyable New Years evening, great food, service and atmosphere. Enjoyed the new menu and refreshed outdoor area.
It was a really disappointing experience today. We waited 90 minutes for some really average food. The service was inattentive and the queuing process for ordering, entirely inefficient. The toilets were unclean, there was no soap and the waste bins overflowing with paper. All in all signs of an operation in need of some care and attention. Really disappointing as we have enjoyed many good experiences in the past.
Great food, great atmosphere, staff very friendly despite being very busy. Thanks!
We had looked onward to having a meal at the sawmill cafe, anticipating it would. Be busy I reserved a table in advance. Unfortunately once we arrived we found there was an hours wait for food (at 1:30pm) meaning we had a drink and left. Further some of the tap beer selection were unavailable
