About The Saracens Head
Our bar area is smart but down to earth and is the perfect place to enjoy a drink with friends and family and is suitable for dining if you prefer a more casual approach than one of our restaurant areas. We welcome dogs in the bar area. Our Lurchers, Ellie & Scooby, are often around and happy to share their treats with well-behaved dogs. Bookings can be taken over the phone for the bar area if you would like your dog to accompany you or simply prefer this area.
We offer a delicious selection of seasonal, locally sourced favourites alongside traditional pub classics. Our team of passionate chefs takes inspiration from all over the world offering daily specials for those guests that like to try something a little different. We have two well laid out, but intimate restaurant areas to choose from if you are dining, our restaurant or our newly refurbished dining room.
Lovely food and friendly staff.
Saracens Head is our favourite local night out. We are so sorry you are having to close again but will be back as soon as we can.
Fantastic country pub with great food and exceptional service!
A lovely meal with very attentive friendly staff. Safe environment subtle precautions maintained throughout See you again after lockdown!
Excellent service, excellent food & drink. Exceptional surroundings and atmosphere. What better way to spend an evening before we lose this fantastic village facility for a month?
Good morning and wanted to comment on a very disappointing experience on Friday evening. Having moved into the village full time earlier this year (for about 8 months), i have fully supported the Sarries throughout when open; 3-4 evenings and lunchtimes weekly. Friday evening was however an appalling experience, from a service, food and respect perspective. 1. on wanting a drink before taking up a confirmed booking for a meal, we were directed outside in the dark. This at a time when there were tables free before being taken up by other pre-booked bookings; times clearly visible on each table and there was plenty of headroom on a couple and there was also the back room. We accepted the direction provided, with no challenge from us. 2. So we are reluctantly sat outside and we order a bottle of wine and a pint of Coors. The items are paid for and they duly arrive, all paid for with confirmation on the App and our on line Bank statement. 10 minutes pass and one of the waitresses comes to the table and aggressively states we haven't paid for the beer and puts a card machine in our face for payment. This was totally unacceptable. No I am really sorry however your payment hasn't reached the till. We showed her the evidence and she went back into the pub. We didn't hear anything further; no apology or admittance that it was a technical or pub issue. Really quite shocking. 3. We then move inside and take up our booked table at 7.30pm. Food ordered, no problem - one rump steak - very well cooked and exactly to order and a lamb shank. There we had a problem. The lamb was cold, not warm, cold. We advised the server, who asked if I would like anything different. I informed her no and a fresh lamb shank would be fine. She said it would be with me as soon as it could be. Whilst waiting for the replacement lamb, the server came over to say it would be taken off the bill; a nice, but necessary gesture. So the replacement arrived 10 minutes later and the lamb shank was steaming hot, however the dauphinoise potatoes were stone cold - felt like they had literally come straight of the fridge. I called the server over and ask her to take away. My appetite had disappeared by then and my partner had finished her meal. So much for a lovely night out. I ordered a bag of nuts. That was the final insult as when the bill came i had been charged for the nuts. So in summary - poor customer service, at best - no accountability taken by the pub management or chef, leaving junior servers to deliver messages I would really like to hear sensible and constructive comments back from the management on these unfortunate incidents. Previous visits have generally been good, with the food of a reasonable standard. Regards Peter
Dry pork, tasteless pie and cold service
We stopped here en route from Yorkshire to London, the pub was lovely, the roast was amazing and great value!
Excellent as always!
Best pub/restaurant in my area.
Always friendly and very welcoming xx
Splendid as always...
Lovely lunch on a quiet autumn day. The only reason I didn't give 5* for atmosphere was we were the only diners. Not the pubs fault but it was a little quiet due to COVID.
A really lovely evening in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be back!
Delicious meal which my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. The service was first class and very quick but not obtrusive. For the beer connoisseurs, I had the Atlantic Pale Ale which was nicely kept.
Superb lunch enjoyed by all 5 of us. Menu catered for a teenager who eats most things and an 11yr old with more restricted tastes. The pub has great systems in place to ensure customer safety. The shared Camembert, charcuterie pizza, Buckby burger, sticky toffee pud & brownie were favourites of the day!
A beautiful pub, I wish I had a pub like this in my village, highly recommend it.
Best Sunday lunch .
We had two great main meals plus desserts that were both very tasty and well presented. The only negative on the sunday roast was the reduced amount of meat (from previous experience) but there was plenty of vegetables. On the positive side the dessert portions were of very reasonable size and we were certainly full after two courses! thanks
Service & cleanliness couldn't be faulted. Nothing was too much trouble. The vegetables & pudding was beautiful. My only disappointment were with the Beef & Yorkshire. It stated on the menu that it was cooked rare & was Rib of Beef. It was neither & sliced very thinly. I found it tasteless. The Yorkshire was too big & overdone. Overall though, it was a very pleasant experience & good value for money.
another lovely experience
brilliant and so helpful staff
