Had a lovely meal, but disappointingly the service wasn't up to the same standard. Considering we went mid week and the restaurant not too busy, we would expect the staff to be more attentive.
The restaurabnt decor and atmosphere is lovely. Food was overpriced. Service was friendly. Didn't ask to test wine before serving. Service was prompt
We booked in for afternoon tea as part of my mums hen day, and the whole afternoon was perfect. We were given a big table in the corner with room for balloons and presents, the afternoon tea and champagne were delicious and the kitchen were happy to amend some of the sandwiches included due to dietary requirements. Towards the end of the meal, a member of staff brought over a beautiful plate of macaroons and other sweet bits with the word ‘congratulations’ written in sauce for my Mum and they personally congratulated my mum on her upcoming big day. This isn’t my first visit to the Salthouse and it won’t be my last as the service is always perfect!
Lovely afternoon tea. Staff very good and felt very relaxed and not rushed.
Very pleasant, the tea was tasty, and the eateries lovely.
Love it each time!!!
Unfortunately a wedding party at the adjacent table were very noisy & rowdy including lots of swearing etc. This spoiled the afternoon for my wife and myself at her birthday celebration
Excellent all round experience. Our first time back in 6 years and every bit as good as we remember. Will return much sooner! Thank you 😊
Excellent all round. Thank you.
Great food, can be hard to talk with company at times as it does get loud. Also, we could have done with more responsiveness after placing orders. Other than that, very good!
The service from our waiter was brilliant. He was very polite and friendly
It is a lovely place and staff were all very pleasant and well meaning. However, most of the serving staff were a bit clueless - win poured on the table as well as the glass, orders not recorded properly. The express menu is good value but a la carte is expensive for what you get. £13 for three scallops (very good) and £19 for a small portion of slightly dry trout. Poor value for relative mediocrity.
Always excellent food and service - the best afternoon tea around! (For both taste and value for money!) a little bit of a mix up with a special dietary request - but they pulled it off with a few minutes wait. Will definitely be back
We really do love our meals there. Always feels like a special night out (when you have three young kids especially! :)). Food etc was great again as usual, and also the restaurant manager (the chap from Portugal) was top notch. Just the right level of attention and care. Keep it up. See you again. Thanks Greg
Excellent food and atmosphere
Whilst the food was good, the atmosphere was flat due to the absence of many more clients. The service was OK but the addition of a 12% service charge was really unwarranted. This level of charge might be acceptable when dining in a top class restaurant with immaculate attention to detail but not at The Salthouse. I fully appreciate that customers can refuse to pay such charges but it is not very British to make a fuss. The service charge will stop me from returning and from recommending your establishment to my group of friends.
We had a wonderful afternoon & afternoon tea was delightful. I have one comment my father was a bit challenged on walking distances so we needed to park close to hotel (he had a blue disabled badge) - when we arrived we found it pretty stressful in parking up as we wasn’t allowed to pack in the main car park as we weren’t staying guess! & ask to move it to the front of the hotel. However our experience was very lovely and we are keen to try a Sunday lunch one time soon. Thank you
Uninspired menu and very slow service in an almost empty restaurant.
Lovely afternoon tea. Staff are very friendly and attentive.
Not enough staff to replenish tea and drinks whilst having afternoon tea, we had to keep getting up to find someone, then we got forgotten as our pot of tea never came so we had to find someone again.. shame about service otherwise it would be an excellent review
It was just perfect
Was looking forward to scallops, very discounted to have just 3 in my plate! Smaller than I remember too. The steak cut wasn’t as prime as expected either. Also very disappointed with the added service charge on our bill. This I feel very strongly that this should be our decision to leave extra and feel disgusted that The Salthouse have taken this from me. It’s just greedy! We did leave a tip as did not realise this has been added.
The only fault I have was the menu was limited for choice
Shocking send food back!
Fantastic meal. Vegetarian. Really enjoyed it. Wine good too. Lovely, helpful staff. Not cheap but worth it.
