About The Ruperra Arms
150 year old village pub serving freshly produced gourmet pub food, complimented with a selection of local craft ales and beers.
Duck breast was supposed to be pink but 50% of it was virtually raw. Rack of lamb was similar. They were busy but the cooking had obviously been rushed with no attention to detail.
I’m by no means a ‘complainer’ and I certainly don’t make a habit of ‘making a few observations’ as I would prefer to call it. However, I was a bit disappointed with our Sunday lunch, which was let down by a few things, unfortunately. The staff were happy and polite but many things were brought out in a strange order, causing us to wait around before we could start eating... our plates were served and then we had to wait for vegetables, then had to wait for serving spoons, then had to wait for mint sauce. There was literally ‘just’ enough cabbage/carrots for the 4 of us and I was shocked to be told there would be a charge for extra (I had 4 slices of carrot and only a measly amount of cabbage) which is a shame because everything was really tasty... even the roast potatoes, which you needed a machete to get through. Both my teenage daughters had to leave theirs because they couldn’t cut through them. As I said... it is a shame because the food was very tasty and these couple of things tinged the occasion slightly.. The desserts were good but with drinks afterwards... my coffee (a whole half a cup full!) was luke warm... two sips and it was gone! We only had one teaspoon between 3 cups and I was only given sugar with my coffee. We had to ask for more for the teas we ordered. Another thing I have to mention is that after getting us each a drink when we first arrived I unfortunately noticed a lipstick stain on the side of my glass (although thankfully not on the side I was drinking from.) I didn’t mention it to a staff member because I was already halfway through my shandy before I noticed.😬 I don’t normally do this (as I said) but I ‘was’ disappointed. I’d heard good reports... and have done for a while and they were all small issues (individually) but everything together, in one dining experience, did spoil it a bit. Silly things that could easily been avoided. Would I go there again? I really don’t know.😑
Excellent Sunday lunch and great staff and service
There were 8 of us for Sunday lunch. We all thought our main courses were excellent. I had beef which fell apart. The veggies were just right. Not overcooked but not rock hard either. The cauliflower cheese was particularly good. Good strong cheese and plenty of it in the sauce. Roast potatoes crispy. Great desserts too. We'll be back to try their main menu soon.
Best Sunday lunch we have had in Wales. The meat was amazing, so tender. Excellent desserts too. Do keep an eye out for the dead/ dying flowers on all the tables!
Beautiful evening, and food was lovely, however a little misleading with your facebook page. As we booked with the menu advertised. So a little put out when only a smaller choice was on offer. Although the food and service was fantastic. A little pricey for just popping out for tea.
My friends ans I have always liked the Ruperra but this Sunday's visit was very disappointing. My one friend had a garlic alkergy and was told there was garlic in everything ...even the roasts ...so had to opt for a steakwith veg but no sauce was forthcoming . Even a basic chef could rustle up a cream and mushroom sauce ....so her meal was very dry.My other friend and myself had the brisket...always delicious. Hers looked a usual sized portion but mine was half the size...so I pointed it out and i was brought an extea piece. There was not the usual amount of vegetabkes and the cauliflower cheese was small very over cooked and with very little sauce. So different to our previous experiences. ...Even 5 weeks ago when I came with a friend it was generous and good value for money When it came to puddings 2of us ordered sticky toffee pudding but my friend ordered hers with cream instead of ice cream.....It came with ice cream!! By which time we had given up. I don't think we'll be coming back ..and will not be recommending it Also the interior decor is grim and as a designer I know how little it would take to make it so much on trend.
Bit pricey for what it was.
We had a very warm welcome, the waitresses were very happy and ready to interact with the customers which is always a pleasure to see: the food was delicious especially the salt and pepper squid starter. We will definitely be returning
Great meal will be back
The food was amazing. All staff were attentive, friendly. We had a lovely evening and have already recommended to work colleagues. Will definitely be back
Our food was beautiful, the beef just fell apart and I could of eaten just that on its own nothing to grumble about. This is just a personal preference but the icing on the cake would be to cook your roasties in goose fat they are delicious, Cauliflower cheese was lovely too!
Delicious food, perfect portions for a Sunday lunch, lovely staff. Can't wait to come back and try the menu. Good luck with the renovations and a chance to lift score on the hygiene label....other people should not be put off, just ask what's the story. Thanks, we'll be back with friends.
Had a lovely afternoon for Sunday lunch! Lovely place! Food and service was amazing! Will defiantly be returning.
Food was to a high standard, beautiful. Very friendly staff.
Great atmosphere, welcoming on arrival, food was delicious and we will definitely be coming back again!! The pork belly was a dream!
Best steak in town
Amazing! Steaks cooked to perfection. Home made chips and onion rings absolutely delicious. Great service.
You asked for feedback but hadn’t even noticed we’d not been! Reason? The food hygiene rating of one star in your window. Once seeing that we immediately turned around
Excellent menu, high quality food, excellent service.
Although the service was very friendly, the kitchen and restaurant were clearly overstretched on the day of our visit. We had to wait 40 minutes after our booking time for our table and it was slightly disappointing that there was no apology and we weren't actually shown to our table, it was just pointed out to us from the bar. The top-side beef for a battle for me. The kids had no chance with it. All tasted good but was hard work. I did leave a tip as the waitresses were lovely and worked hard to try to keep up.
We were served raw chicken- which was part of a child’s meal. The meat was pink inside and very noticeable straight away. I old the waitress who was very apologetic, she said she would bring us a fresh one but then came back with the same piece of chicken, that had just been cooked a little bit more. The restaurant also only had one baby high chair, so my 1 year old daughter had to sit on my partners lap during the whole time we were there due to someone else using it.
Myself and my husband the Ruperra on 9th May for my husband's birthday. He'd not been well so it was a very quiet birthday. We were very impressed.!! We had heard nothing but good things about the place and it didn't disappoint. The food was amazing and I had the best fillet steak I'd ever had. My husband had fish and chips which he remarked were stunning. The waitress and service were both was excellent. Will definitely be returning soon.
Lovely meal beef so tender and veg really fresh
Lovely Sunday meal with good choice of meats. Good communication prior as large party. All meals arrived same time and everyone was impressed with their food. Thank you.
