We went for lunch on a Monday as it was my wife’s birthday, so it wasn’t very busy, but we could see that the atomosphere would be nice in the evenings. The menu was very varied and the food was excellent and well presented. The staff were very friendly and the service was good.
Had to send 1st meal back and had a second meal that again had to go back. My partners meal was left for him to eat and he was asked if he wanted a desert before I’d even eaten a main. Meal and drinks we’re refunded but just not a great experience
Very enjoyable meal. Good service.
Always good food !! 😊
A good meal, we'll cooked and first class service.
We go every year in a big group and are usually very well looked after in a lovely room off the main restaurant There are good food choices to cater for every taste, there is a decent wine list, and there is a good beer selection. The General Manager, Andrew, is excellent. Unfortunately, this year after senior management had departed for the night, we were told at 22.50 that we couldn't have another (final) drink even though we hadn't been advised of "last orders" and they were still serving in the bar. I had to talk to the duty manager who wasn't keen to serve us, but who relented in the end. This was a black mark on our night and most of our group were very unimpressed.
Lovely pub. Great menu with plenty of choice for anyone who is Coeliac/gluten free
Lovely food and good value if you've got a 2 4 1 voucher but a bit pricey if you haven't.
Nice meal but disappointed that the Sunday lunch menu was not the same as the menu on the website and the food we had wanted was not available. Also when presented with the bill found we had been overcharged.
Nice to see some vegan options. Could've done with being talked through all the great beers on offer instead of just the lager or Guinness. Thought that having a separate area for the bar goers watching football was a good idea. Would come back.
Excellent Sunday Roasts. Very pleasant and attentive service. Definitely will be back again.
Took my wife out for dinner on our wedding anniversary. A very pleasant evening. The food was good and the beer was good. Thanks to everyone at the Royal Oak.
Friendly atmosphere , well mannered and very helpful staff .
the service was slow, we had to ask to use the card machine twice to pay and there was a table next to us who got served and food at the table before ours. i would come back, also i would recommend this pub to friends.
Compared to previous visits service was a little slower - food order was taken before drinks were served. However, the food was excellent as always.
Had a lovely meal. Service was great. First time we had been. Will recommend and be back!
Portions a little uneven in that cheaper pork belly dish was a plate full, but lamb rump dish was pretty small for the price. Service perfect and food really good.
Compared to our previous, and enjoyable visit about four months ago, this ocassion was sadly a disappointment. There were only four other covers in when we arrived, but we still had to wait over an hour and a quarter for our meal to be served. When the food finally did arrive, three of the four dishes were really quite a let down. What little beef that arrived was very fatty, the lamb dish quite bland and slightly over cooked, the duck not crispy, and was described as chewy. We all felt that the food seemed to lack seasoning and notable taste. And appeared to have been rushed or lacking attention, despite the onerous wait. Considering we had recommended this to our guests, having enjoyed our last visit, we felt distinctly embarrassed. It may just have been a “one off” bad night, but it was certainly not of the same standard we encountered on our previous visit.
Waiter kept trying to clear plate when we hadn’t finished eating felt rushed, when we had finished dinner I had to approach to pay the bill. The food was poor your chips are rubbish wrong potatoes used and not dried correct before cooking on top of burnt oil which ment soggy brown chips appose to golden crisp chips. Burger was as dry as a desert you need to use more fatty meat or a thinner patty. Would not come back or recommend. Staff need a re education. You should of noticed I work for a newspaper company and so made sure I had an enjoyable meal because you don’t know if I’m the editor, a writer or what my relationship to the company is. I will not inform them of your poor performance but I may re visit in future and re assured if nothing has improved I will move to publish
Lovely food and great service really nice pub will be visiting again thank you
Lovely food, impressive menu. The only criticism is the cheese board. Very disappointing. You could have had more variety - blue cheese, cheddar or even Cheshire !! Some chutney wouldn’t go amiss either.
We came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. My guests were very happy with their food.I am a vegetarian and would have liked more choice.I have been to the Royal Oak several times in the past few weeks and had to have the same dish! This was very nice but I would like a change!
Potentially top level for the price. But some of the cooking is slightly inconsistent. Filo pastry slightly overlooked in my case. Do very good leaves.
Dinner cut short somewhat as the kitchen was declared flooded after rain.
Great food and friendly service
