Very nice food !!!
The ribs could have done with an extra pot of sauce on the side. The BBQ sauce on the meat pizza was lacking. The lamb was lovely and tender. The curry and the stroganoff were gorgeous. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. Thank you
Excellent meal and service will definitely return.
We had a lovely meal here last night. There was plenty of choice on the menu and the food was delicious. The service was great and we will definitely be back!
best dining out experience for a long time, will definately be back soon.
We had a lovely stay in the Royal Oak last night! It was such a beautiful day and where nicer to enjoy a nice glass of wine in the courtyard. We had a beautiful, clean room which was very spacious. A great comfy bed too! We enjoyed a fantastic evening meal in the restaurant, beautiful ‘home cooked’ food, plenty of choice. We were very well looked after by Hollie. A lovely, friendly run establishment, would highly recommend if you want to stay away from the usual ‘chain’ hotels. Thank you for looking after us.
We had a lovely meal and there was a two for one offer on, which was very nice, but we are very shocked at how costly the drinks were including soft drinks.
If I could give zero I would. 5 of us came for dinner and the chips were burnt, I ordered a steak burger with no chutney it came with no salad. My daughters kids meal came scorching hot and we waiting 10 mins into our meal for sauces. Also when asking to change the burnt chips the waiter snarled and made me uncomfortable.
We all really enjoyed our meals and the staff were excellent. Was very quiet as we ate early (around 6pm) but the atmosphere was building nicely at around 7.30pm when we left. Have visited numerous times before and will definitely visit again. Always seem to have offers on which make it an absolute bargain too.
Very enjoyable meal. The stroganoff was especially good.
Food was very poor quality. Fatty meats/poor cuts on the roast dinners. Ribs were full of cartilage and not cooked well. Chips were soggy, pie was overcooked and dry. Service was very good, overall experience spoiled by the food served and smell of kitchens being deep cleaned at the end of the afternoon.
Had a lovely welcome when we arrived. Very quick to bring a high chair over, but we had requested this on our booking so thought it would be there ready. But apart from that we had a lovely time and not long to wait for our food either. Will definitely revisit and recommend to friends.
Lovely food, very cosy atmosphere with friendly staff
First time at the Royal Oak, really enjoyed our meals, staff very friendly provided a good service with no waiting. Will definitely return for a second visit and who knows more visits after that.
We have eaten here on many occasions and enjoyed our experience, but this time our experience was not good. We booked a table on line. When we arrived we were told the food was taking 10-15 mins to come out of kitchen, but after we sat down the staff would not take our order for 20 mins and then we waited another hours for our meal. Very disappointed and not likely to return for a little while.
Friendly staff Food good. Good idea to partition off the bar area as it always seemed an unused space when we visited before. Good choice on the menu - pity the specials were not available on the evening we visited.
Great surroundings but nearly empty when we went, hence the atmosphere rating - but I would definitely recommend going - it's really lovely inside. The kids' meals, including fresh pizza, were very nice. My roast was delicious - gorgeous roast potatoes and vegetables, but the slices of lamb had a fair bit of fat and gristle on them, which took a bit of work. I would come back and recommend to family as it's lovely inside and the staff were very nice.
Disappointing lunch i'm afraid. Having enjoyed a wonderful family lunch (party of 16) celebrating our sons 21st birthday in January , we thought we would revisit and just have lunch for 2. My husband had the spare ribs which he couldn't finish (unheard of!) as he felt they were under cooked and fatty. My roast dinner was better with very tasty vegetables but a meager portion of rather chewy dry beef . It was most disappointing and such a contrast from the beautiful meal we had all enjoyed in January - so much tender beef slices, faultless all round) The response from the waiter was indifferent ' I'll let the chef know' with no real apology or effort to make amends - perhaps a complimentary coffee or slight reduction in the £35 bill. Sadly we won't visit again and could see why the restaurant wasn't too busy considering it was a Sunday lunch
Lovely food and beautiful surroundings a little expensive for Sunday lunch but it was delicious. A shame more people weren’t in
Normally I would say this was good value, however there were three of us on a two for one offer and ended up paying full price for all three. I only picked this up after we left as the price seemed quite high and I only received a credit card receipt rather than an itemised bill. Still enjoyed the atmosphere but found i was overheating a bit.
Ordered a rib eye steak which had to be returned as uneatable. My partner eat hers but that wasn't of the quality you would expect for the price paid. My replacement steak was satisfactory at best. The quality of the steaks made our visit a disappointing one. I would say however that the lady who served us was attentive and very apologetic.
We all enjoyed our meals and atmosphere at the Royal Oak Restaurant. The food was delicious and great value for money. We will definitely go here again and will recommend it to friends. Thank you.
Very good as always !!! 😊
