Great surroundings but nearly empty when we went, hence the atmosphere rating - but I would definitely recommend going - it's really lovely inside. The kids' meals, including fresh pizza, were very nice. My roast was delicious - gorgeous roast potatoes and vegetables, but the slices of lamb had a fair bit of fat and gristle on them, which took a bit of work. I would come back and recommend to family as it's lovely inside and the staff were very nice.
Disappointing lunch i'm afraid. Having enjoyed a wonderful family lunch (party of 16) celebrating our sons 21st birthday in January , we thought we would revisit and just have lunch for 2. My husband had the spare ribs which he couldn't finish (unheard of!) as he felt they were under cooked and fatty. My roast dinner was better with very tasty vegetables but a meager portion of rather chewy dry beef . It was most disappointing and such a contrast from the beautiful meal we had all enjoyed in January - so much tender beef slices, faultless all round) The response from the waiter was indifferent ' I'll let the chef know' with no real apology or effort to make amends - perhaps a complimentary coffee or slight reduction in the £35 bill. Sadly we won't visit again and could see why the restaurant wasn't too busy considering it was a Sunday lunch
Lovely food and beautiful surroundings a little expensive for Sunday lunch but it was delicious. A shame more people weren’t in
Normally I would say this was good value, however there were three of us on a two for one offer and ended up paying full price for all three. I only picked this up after we left as the price seemed quite high and I only received a credit card receipt rather than an itemised bill. Still enjoyed the atmosphere but found i was overheating a bit.
Ordered a rib eye steak which had to be returned as uneatable. My partner eat hers but that wasn't of the quality you would expect for the price paid. My replacement steak was satisfactory at best. The quality of the steaks made our visit a disappointing one. I would say however that the lady who served us was attentive and very apologetic.
We all enjoyed our meals and atmosphere at the Royal Oak Restaurant. The food was delicious and great value for money. We will definitely go here again and will recommend it to friends. Thank you.
Very good as always !!! 😊
My daughter and i had a lovely meal, great seating area and perfect hosting. Lovely traditional place , open fire, great food.
5 star in every respect
We were there on Sunday lunch time and there was only one other table in at that time, but I did not get to eat for an hour as the service was very slow!! The food was lovely though, when I finally did eat!!!
Food was excellent and service very good indeed. Great local pub
we were the only ones dining there but the food and service were first class
We originally visited the Royal Oak in the summer. It is a a lovely restaurant. It's spacious and nicely set out. On our previous visit, there was a group of about 8 of us and they messed up our order, not once but twice. On our most recent visit, we went to the restaurant as all the other restaurants in the area were booked up. I was surprised to walk into the restaurant and it was 3/4 empty. The service was excellent and our waitress was polite and very attentive. However, the food was less than average. My spicy noodles were not spicy and the sauce was like something you could buy in the supermarket. Edible but bland. The beef was supposed to be crispy but was overcooked and I couldn't eat it. Sadly, the fact that the restaurant was mostly empty on a Saturday evening speaks for itself. It's really disappointing as I am local and would love to have a great place to eat so close by. I wish that the management would employ a good chef and get some more customers but I fear that this place will not last. I would love to support this local restaurant. I hope my comments will be seen as an opportunity to make some improvements and not as a small minded criticism. Many of my friends and neighbors have expressed a similar viewpoint. I just wanted to give it another chance.
We had a lunch time meal
Wasn't quite the visit I was expecting, original table time pushed back 15 min as there was a large party which took priority and meant we were delayed in our drink and food order. There appeared to be lots of staff around but it was clear the large table were the priority. Drinks eventually arrived after chasing and food was ordered after the large table were seen too. I ordered the chicken roast which was very dry. We declined dessert and requested the bill. Overall not what I was expecting after reading all the positive reviews.
We were a party of 12 for Sunday lunch. Very attentive staff, got the balance right between being there when we needed them and not being intrusive. Great atmosphere in the restaurant and food was lovely; well cooked and delicious. Staff went the extra mile to accommodate the food intolerances for a couple of the members in our party and sourced gluten and onion free gravy.Thank you!
The staff were friendly and accommodating. The food excellent, Just one comment, you should have list of ingredients to hand for people with any dietary needs. However, the staff were extremely helpful and it wasn't a problem. Thank you for a lovely afternoon
staff are so friendly and food selection is great
The surroundings were nice, the food was good and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Difficult to judge the atmosphere because we went at a quiet time, but could have done with it being a bit warmer.
The food was superb could not be faulted. However we were the only ones in the dining room and it was cold. Thought 40 minutes was quite a long wait for the food but when it came it was lovely
We went for lunch on a Monday as it was my wife’s birthday, so it wasn’t very busy, but we could see that the atomosphere would be nice in the evenings. The menu was very varied and the food was excellent and well presented. The staff were very friendly and the service was good.
Had to send 1st meal back and had a second meal that again had to go back. My partners meal was left for him to eat and he was asked if he wanted a desert before I’d even eaten a main. Meal and drinks we’re refunded but just not a great experience
Very enjoyable meal. Good service.
Always good food !! 😊
A good meal, we'll cooked and first class service.
