About The Royal McGregor
The Royal McGregor Whisky Bar & Restaurant is a family run establishment located in the heart of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh’s ‘Old Town’ where we have been delighting locals and tourists for nearly 20 years. We focus on informal friendly customer service to compliment our passion for local produce, independent breweries and Whisky!
Second time we made booking at this place. This time, we brought my in-laws along with my wife. We had amazing Haggis tower and dessert - Cranachan. Thank you very much! We hope to come again during our next visit to Edinburgh
Good, quick service, especially given it was the Royal Mile on a Saturday!
Lovely meal in fab surroundings. Staff were brilliant and provided an excellent service. Food was great and portions huge!
Made a reservation online for 7 people when showed up they do nothing about it finally we got another table very sorry must be something walk through internet I should have something out and said give us at table he never did our tables are sitting close to the door in the cold air used to always enjoy going here but no more
Top as always
Great atmosphere and food right in the heart of the Royal Mile, was great to see the staff engaging with the tourists about the whiskey and gin samples. Will be back.
Really enjoyed it
Ein sehr schönes Erlebnis. Das Essesn war sehr gut und die Atmosphäre sehr ansprechend. Die Bedienung war der Hammer.
It was a very nice breakfast. Delicious food and boozy sips!
Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen war sehr gut. Für meine Verhältnisse war es etwas zu laut, was aber daran lag, dass es sich eher um ein Pub als um ein Restaurant handelte.
Very good traditional food!
Great food, convenient location.
Haggis was great!
Lovely place to visit but breakfast was undercooked with raw sausage. Was flagged up with server and she only apologised. No offer to get a fresh and cooked breakfast was made.
Love the atmosphere and the food, but my favorite thing is the service. You can see that everyone works together as a team and that makes for superior service. A pleasant dining experience.
Superb food and service from the team at The Royal McGregor! Will definitely visit again when back in Edinburgh
Excellent evening, well looked after, great meals, very good atmosphere.
This was my second time to The Royal McGregor, wasn’t disappointed the first time, definitely wasn’t the second time either!! Food was superb, will absolutely have to make it a regular stop!!
Great food and service but would not return as sadly just felt too cramped the table simply wasn’t big enough for 4 guests x
Max was great! Our group of six did the malts and scran package and we all really enjoyed it. Would highly recommend.
There was a really nice vibe. The service is really good. And the are very friendly. You should really try the Haggis tower and the sticky toffe pudding. It is really delicious.
We stopped in the day before to make reservations for 4 for Friday evening dinner. Our table was not ready, BUT a good explanation was given, and another table reserved so that we had a place to sit while the other larger group vacated the table we reserved (only a 15 minute wait). Our wait staff was excellent. The night before we had a gin flight (our first) and it was EXCELLENT, the presentation and taste, along with the explanation by our bartender. And even though we did not have the same bartender as the night before, I noticed him explaining a "flight" to another group with the same knowledge. He did stop by our table to inquire if everything is all right and we asked him about our Whiskey flight. Again, very knowledgeable. Personality was great. We may never make it back to Edinburgh again, but I would highly recommend this quaint little Scottish pub!
Good pie and burger. Dessert was average. Not overly busy, lacked a bit of a buzz
Really nice service and friendly atmosphere! Great haggis and good beer on tap
Worst 2 hours spent in Edinburgh We reserved a table online but a very large noisy stag do was in, and we were placed right next to them and couldn’t even hear ourselves talk for the first hour. The stag do had harry potter broomsticks and kept dropping them on our feet and leaning over us. Not totally the bars fault, but during that time we ordered food and drinks. Food was average, we’ve had better. I ordered gin and the glass was cracked half way down. Also the gin was meant to come with a bottle of tonic water which the male waiter totally forgot and left on the bar with the ice for a while until the only nice barmaid told him to bring it to me. The bar is quite small but very noisy and we were sat right next to the kitchen area so were disturbed by numerous food orders coming out and then a woman washing and drying what sounded like every piece of cutlery very noisily right next to us for 20 minutes. So much for peace and quiet or even a normal conversation over dinner. The end was awful as the waiter came over after we had paid by card with his colleague and said we had been undercharged by quite a lot! So we had to repay again which I was not happy with and the waiter said that was the only card payment all night.... which I just don’t believe. It was really disappointing and I’m very upset. I would never bother to go back here again. I would not recommend this place at all. Please go somewhere else, somewhere nice!!
