Always a good time lovley cocktails and sharering platters
I mean, it was the first time I'd been here, it was lovely inside and the staff were polite. There seemed to be loads of them around but not really doing enough. Empty drinks were left on the table, and our starter plates hadn't been cleared before they came along with our mains? But dont get me wrong, it was a nice meal although understandably not a great menu selection at the moment. And the staff were nice and polite just a little lacking in something that I can't quite put my finger on. But I would come back and would recommend to friends.
Best food in town.
I booked afternoon tea for my friend's birthday. It was lovely. Everything was very fresh , the scones were the best ever 👍. We had a relaxed afternoon, staff were attentive and in no rush for us to finish. My only disappointment was being charged separately for a pot of tea as I presumed this was included in the price. Having said that, it wouldn't stop me from visiting again as was one of the nicest afternoon teas I have had.
Very efficient service.
I know it's difficult times, but having eaten there a few times before, I was very disappointed by the lack of choices on the menu, and even the choices, even the food wasn't up to what I've experienced there before.
Staff were friendly, food lovely had a great time Thank you
This is the second time we have been to the Bottomless Brunch. Thoroughly enjoyed it both times and would certainly come again. We are eagerly awaiting Supper Club.
Great menu and staff were very friendly. I only marked the atmosphere down slightly due to the current restrictions in place but the team did do a great job. Service charge being added made the price per head nearer £40, which us quote expensive for lunch.
We was looking forward to finally coming back to the royal and we couldn’t of been more disappointed. We arrived Expecting to be put In The ball room for an evening meal on a Saturday night as it says on the website only to be told it was shut. We was dressed smartly as you would expect and was greeted with people in vests and swim wear at the bar which really brought the area down. We was always under the impression there was a dress code but we could of been in flip flops and shorts and not stood out. The toilet was not kept clean and the attitude of some of the staff was unprofessional congregating around the pc screen chatting loudly and not paying attention to customers. The atmosphere was what you would expect in a weatherspoons and not somewhere that costs in excess of £9 a drink. We will not be rushing back.
Had a very enjoyable late birthday with my friend that should have been in April. Worth the wait 😊
This was our first time at the Royal hotel, as we heard great things about it. The atmosphere was lovely, really friendly staff and attentive. Couldn't fault them. Food was ok. We went for the meat sharing platter and fat chips. Oh my, they were so greasy. It was a little bit heavy for us. I wouldn't have that again. Everything else was good.
We had a really enjoyable couple of hours here and will definitely be going again!
Loved the decor and atmosphere. The staff were absolutely brilliant. We enjoyed the cocktails. I appreciate that it takes a while to get back to normal and that food suppliers are limited at the moment but, we all thought our starters and desserts were ok, and all our the main courses were a disappointment. To be honest, we could could have gone anywhere for that quality of food. I probably wouldn’t come back to eat, but I would come for a drink.
We had a lovely time when we came just for drinks! The staff are wonderful!
Excellent service, great cocktails. Looking forward to my next visit!
I was very disheartened by my experience yesterday as was the rest of my group. No sanitiser offered when we arrived. The waiter whilst trying to be friendly seemed a little over zealous and I saw him getting very close to customers (literally over their shoulders and laughing loudly. Normally this would be ok but vigour is laughing in a poorly fitted mask over someone is probably best to be discouraged. He also forgot to order our chessboard so we had a long wait as we had to chase it up. We’d long finished our coffee before it came. The food was pretty dreadful really. Two prawn cocktails which looked better than they tasted. Prawns were pretty fishy and although not off we’re definitely not fresh (possibly frozen ?) the burger was ok but the brioche was tough and chips were a small portion size and pretty standard. The seafood platter was advertised as serving 2-3 and it was only really for 1. It looked terrible in the silver pots and was pretty tasteless. The cheeseboard first £10 was shocking. No choice if biscuits only a few of one kind. It was tiny too ... the little plate it came on was a rip off and the chilled chutneys were not good. They’ve obviously been on the pots in the fridge for ages (like the fish platter) one of the chutneys was the same as what had been served on the burger (tomato relish type) and there were no grapes or anything. I eat out a lot and even since the Covid restrictions have been lifted and this was the worst luck we have eaten in a long time. The room was lovely with the view and the breeze but lack of sanitiser offered, standard of food and cost it was £87 we should not have spent - sorry
The food was very good and it was very comfortable to eat, They have taken the safe distancing seriously and everything was washed down and staff wore masks. They make the best porn star martinis in Southend.
Meal for two, I have to admit despite being very excited I was sadly quite under whelmed. The staff were so good given the current situation with corna virus and were clearly very busy! The cocktails were delicious but for £10 a cocktail they should be! I had the royal fish and chips, this was good but have to admit was gastro pub food which I could have had for half the prince in a similar pub. For £78 for dinner for two, 2 cocktails and 1 main each we definitely won’t rush back as there are places with better value for money and a nicer environment. We did think we would be seated in the ballroom for dinner but was in the lounge, respite being told not to leave tables many guests were in and out of their seats going outside for cigarettes ect so for us who just wanted to enjoy our meal it was a little uncomfortable! But thank you to the staff for opening and your hard work.
Always a lovely experience whether a post shopping lunch or a full evening out.... cannot wait for you to open your doors again! We miss you
Had a lovely Mothers Day roast dinner delivered because of the current circumstances. The delivery was very quick and food was still piping hot. Very impressed!
We had a fabulous afternoon. Food was good and drinks were plentiful. The two staff serving us were attentive and friendly. We'll be back soon. FrancEs
