Staff very welcoming and very attentive
We had an awful night on Saturday night. The first lot of meals came out stone cold (which we sent back). Then 2 meals (out of 6) came and no others. then the 2 Beetroot wellingtons came out and one was supposed to be vegan (a choice that was offered to me by email) and the waitress didn't know which but told me "vegetarian, vegan. It's all the same"The other meals still didn't materialise and by then the other meals plus the vegetables were again stone cold. We were sent 2 "managers" both of whom (when we said we weren't going to pay) said they had to consult the director. when we asked to see the director, he/she wasn't available! We ended up in an indian restaurant at 11pm because we hadn't eaten. Absolutely appalling experience!
This is the second time we have had our Christmas Meal here yet after last night we will definitely not be booking again. The service was extremely slow, some had finished there meals before others had even had there’s, most of which was cold. It completely ruined our evening which is so disappointing as we wait all year for this. We will not be rebooking and would definitely not recommend to anyone else.
Had a Christmas dinner which was excellent. There was a woman singing and the volume was so loud, I could hold a conversation, (had to shout all the time). Her voice was terrible also - very karaoke!
Fabulous food and lovely cocktails! Maybe a bit dark for eating.
Service very bad. Was over charged too.
Went for a gentleman's afternoon tea with 3 friends, which we had in the bar area. Service was good although we had to ask a few times for the correct items that were missing/wrong. The food was really good quality and there was plenty of it. The staff are friendly and like a chat
Service was v good food exceptional for price. Could do with some draught beer, only downside. Would definitely return...
Music to loud.
We went for the unlimited prosecco afternoon tea. As soon as a bottle was finished they replaced it, the service was generally good and friendly. However the afternoon tea itself was disappointing. The scones were great but the sandwiches were a bit stale and the delights on top tier were lovely but not very substantial. We were still hungry and asked for more sandwiches but were told we were not allowed. All in all it was a great venue but disappointing afternoon tea. We had to stop for chips on the way home.
Surprised at how lovely the venue is
Excellent meal Staff very helpful Would like perhaps that ballroom was in keeping with character of building & history connection with Nelson
Really lovely afternoon
Really lovely food and a beautiful setting. Not pretentious at all but far nicer than going to a pub. Service was outstanding, waiters came to check on us and we had no issues. Food was well cooked - a little pricier than a pub but that was irrelevant as it was nice to go somewhere nice. Loved the large non alcoholic drink selection-very unusual but very welcome as we do not drink and get sick of ordering a coke with our dinner elsewhere! Only thing that would be helpful for the waiters is to have a WiFi booster so their card machine works at the table for them :) will be back 100%!
We enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch. We were not rushed along... we took our time and enjoyed a delicious meal
Had a lovely time with my niece who booked this as a birthday gift. The food was plentiful and very tasty, I was not expecting the savoury extras so had to take some deserts home - we were both so full. The service was professional but friendly and the beautiful décor and sea view rounded off the experience. Definitely would recommend and return. Restaurant menu looked very tempting.
Visited for my 50th birthday. Everything was lovely.
We kept having to ask for top ups of drinks, etc. Food was nice but service was very slow.
Really good service from the waitresses!
Had an amazing evening at the Halloween ball! The food was delicious and the service was very good. Will be returning!
All staff very helpful and although we had different dietary requirements it was all thought of and we were well looked after!
We enjoyed the comedians but would criticize the Compere. A good pre show warm up which worked well for the first act but the extended interval and silly joke questionnaire and the selecteion of the winner cooled the audience so far down the temperature guage that ther was no chance for the 2nd act to succeed. It was astruggle for him and he didn't deserve it
We had an excellent night at Dr Legba's. The cocktails were amazing (if expensive). The barman was fantastic. Our guests all had a great time and would go again. Please stop using plastic straws in the cocktails though!
Nice atmosphere and choice of drinks but service can sometimes be slow
really nice restaurant, average service, good food at reasonable prices, just a shame that there was only ten customers on a Friday night but we will return and try a Saturday. Small improvements could make it one of best Southend restaurants.
