About The Royal George
Located on Irsha Street, at the meeting point of the Taw and Torridge rivers, our waterside pub is in the perfect position to take in the superb view across the estuary.
At The Royal George we aim to deliver a locally sourced menu of the highest quality, with innovative dishes and twists on traditional classics. Our talented kitchen team selects the freshest seasonal and local ingredients. Our lovingly put together wine list has been created to compliment the food. We also have a selection of beers, ciders, and gin - many locally made in North Devon and the surrounding area.
A wonderful lunch again at the Royal George, service was very good and we did not have to wait long for our meals, very good selection of wine, always love the fact the items of the menu each time reflects what is in season, extremely happy with everything, even the screaming toddler on the next table couldn't spoil our time there!
Great service but having a dairy allergy shouldn’t mean having to just eat vegan options, surely some of the meat dishes could be prepared without butter or cream?
A great meal out - Our table had a lovely view out over the estuary and the twinkling lights of Instow. Service was attentive and helpful without being intrusive. Best of all was the food though - between us we had venison, pheasant, and lamb for main course. All really well cooked and presented with fantastic taste being the number one comment. Puddings were good too - actually worth having in their own right rather than just as part of the ritual of dining out. Can't recommend enough - we will be back again soon.
Lovely setting great service and very attentive staff I found the food great value but the drinks very expensive but overall a lovely experience and I would visit again. Very well done the Royal George.
Lovely food great decor
Brilliant service and amazing food. We'll definitely be coming back next time we're in Devon 👍🏻
Great food, great service and no issues with letting my puppy join us which is just brilliant for the family. To hear my 13 year old son say “ohh my god this tastes amazing” for what was a roast potato tells just how good Sunday lunch was👍😃
Great Sunday lunch . Food was superb , ingredients locally sourced which is an added bonus . Best sticky pudding I’ve ever tasted. Staff very knowledgable and friendly . Well done everyone , we will be back.
As always an absolutely excellent evening. The food never fails to delight, and the staff are friendly and professional.
The food was fantastic and service great. We had a lovely Saturday evening and would certainly eat there again.
We were in a group of 13, for a birthday celebration. We were very well looked after. The food was great. Staff were friendly and attentive. Warm and welcoming. I would definitely recommend it. Thank you.
Excellent as usual
My fish and chips were beautiful. My wife's tandoori fish was a small portion for a main course.. our seasonal vegetables were stringy. We told the waitress who said she would feed back. But nothing happened or was said. My Swiss roll pudding was more like a ganash than a cake. rock hard and dence . 6/10 for our wedding anniversary evening out.
Following several enjoyable visits, we decided to bring our youngest daughter who lives in London to The Royal George. Again, we couldn’t fault the food, wine or service and our (very discerning) daughter was equally impressed. We highly recommend.
That we were at the table for three hours speaks for itself - really oogd food, service and atmosphere.
Fabulous place! Great location and the most tasty Sunday lunch! 😃
Excellent, will be back soon😀
Lovely attentive staff, good quality food, nice surroundings & atmosphere, would certainly recommend to friends and family. Thanks for a lovely meal, we'll be back!! X
Food was delicious - spot on! A varied menu, different to the usual. Absolutely delicious food, amazing to see how local. Atmosphere lovely. Had to call the waiter over for absolutely everything, even though we were eating fairly late & only 2-3 other tables in the room. They were all standing around chatting/clearing up (@8:30pm so not particularly late) & every time we wanted to order a drink/dessert/get the bill, we had to ask. No-one was attentive at all. Which was a shame as everything else was perfect, and we’d highly recommend you guys.
The meal was very enjoyable and atmosphere always very good, However the meal did not seem quite at the same level as previously experienced. It missed some ‘nuances’. I had crab that was serviced on bruschetta - that could have been far more delicately served. This was followed by brill - which was fairly ‘average’. The house white was a little too dry. I’m sure previously we’ve had a complementary small soup. Having said that we loved our evening and will be back but it didn’t seem quite the same high standards last night.
The rump special was absolutely superb. Flavours were just amazing.
We had a lovely meal here on Friday night. The food was excellently cooked and presented and arrived in pretty quick time. There was some confusion with the waiting staff over what was and was not available from the specials menu and over what beers were available. The selection of wine on offer was very good and all that we ordered were available. The atmosphere started off quite chaotic due to young children running around - but once a particular party left it was very good . As it was dark we couldn't see the views but I'm sure they would have been lovely had it been light.
My third trip the the Royal George. The food is generally to a very high standard, especially the main course. The only criticism I have is the hot desserts. I believe these are warmed through in a microwave, which in itself is not a problem. I have had two desserts which I think have been overheated and, as a result, have not been as good as they could have been.
Wonderful evening food good, wonderful staff
Excellent food and service, a bit pricey for north devon, but the food was gurlush
