About The Royal George
Located on Irsha Street, at the meeting point of the Taw and Torridge rivers, our waterside pub is in the perfect position to take in the superb view across the estuary.
At The Royal George we aim to deliver a locally sourced menu of the highest quality, with innovative dishes and twists on traditional classics. Our talented kitchen team selects the freshest seasonal and local ingredients. Our lovingly put together wine list has been created to compliment the food. We also have a selection of beers, ciders, and gin - many locally made in North Devon and the surrounding area.
This would be the 5th time I have eaten at The Royal George since the refurb, with various groups of friends. Yesterday was my birthday and we celebrated with friends who haven’t had the experienced previously. They were very impressed, and I think they will be returning at the slightest opportunity. I hope they invite me! The food, service, and a great table in the conservatory was perfect. Thank you.
The food we ordered was disappointing, the main problem was some of it was under cooked, the restaurant wasn't busy, so no excuses there. The smoked trout was very rubbery and pretty inedible. The one positive was that the young manager gave us free deserts by way of an apology. Kitchen needs imrovement.
Fantastic lunch that were we're all looking forward to, espeically as we'd been checking online menus many times in advance and following trg_appledore on IG in anticipation.. did not let us down.. keep up the good work!
We ate in The Royal George 4 times during our stay over the New Year and each time was consistantly good. The food was excellent and the menu changed each day. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was good. We would certainly recommend it and will return when we next come to stay.
Food exquisite, could of a couple more prawns on the starter but that’s my only criticism
Really lovely lunch
Stunning location, good service. Will definitely be back
We spent a very memorable afternoon at the Royal George over Christmas. The dining area, with it's view over the Estuary, is stunning; as was the welcome, the food and the service. I would happily recommend and will re-visit.
Everything was good. No faults of any significance.
Unfortunately despite me calling ahead to check on the suitably of the menu (2 of our party had allergies) there was very little they could eat, my daughter ended up having a bowl of potatoes, it is a very limited menue, I would be happy to ha e a drink there but wouldn't go for food again
Excellent food and service, we look forward to visiting again soon.
visited many times, never disappointing, gets better each time.would recommend it to anyone visiting Appledore
Lovely food, able to book a large group of people in last minute at Christmas! Definitely recommend and will be visiting again.
We had a lovely lunch, downstairs, next to the window. Excellent service and food. Dog very welcome. My peanut allergy handled very professionally . Thanks!
Amazing food, service and setting. Would definitely recommend The Royal George.
Being xmas eve evening we were disappointed there was no festive music. We found the food very nice but starters were small and expensive for what they were. Service was excellent, we will return but probably for a lunchtime meal to enjoy the view.
Brilliant as usual
Excellent Sunday menu choices. The quality of the produce was very good. Thank you.
Friendly attentive staff who looked after the five of us in a lovely way. A problem with my meal was dealt with sympathetically and without fuss and the replacement was excellent. We will be back.
Great food - very good atmosphere
This was our first visit to The Royal George - from the welcoming and efficient staff to the delicious food it was perfect and the Sticky Toffee Pudding was to die for!! We would highly recommend a visit.
Our waitress was brilliant ! My friends' first visit and they were very impressed by the ambience and food. Chocolate marquise is to die for !
Fantastic service and beautiful food matched with a great view. Would highly recommend!
Lovely Sunday lunch 5* presentation Personally I would prefer sliced roast beef instead of the Small portion of beef steak in the Sunday roast. The roast pork & lamb are very good. The best roast potatoes we have had anywhere. The only downside it can get very noisy I think the restaurant could do with some sound insulation. To add, the knives we used weren’t very sharp.
Pleasant atmosphere, stunning location & good food.
