About The Royal George
Located on Irsha Street, at the meeting point of the Taw and Torridge rivers, our waterside pub is in the perfect position to take in the superb view across the estuary.
At The Royal George we aim to deliver a locally sourced menu of the highest quality, with innovative dishes and twists on traditional classics. Our talented kitchen team selects the freshest seasonal and local ingredients. Our lovingly put together wine list has been created to compliment the food. We also have a selection of beers, ciders, and gin - many locally made in North Devon and the surrounding area.
Have eaten here several times now and each time has been faultless, would recommend it to anyone.
We always love coming to the Royal George for everything is has to offer. We took some friends from Guildford and they we amazed at the whole experience. You seem to have it "right" from our point of view and we will keep recommending you to all of our associates. Brilliant team front of house and the food is super.
We have been quite a few times and have enjoyed each visit. We have learned to dine upstairs to avoid the dog problem. (It's about time dogs were banned from all venues where food is consumed). An unusual and interesting menu, excellent service and amazing views contribute to a very enjoyable dining experience.
Great food and views and really good service - our favourite place to eat when we’re in Devon
Most amazing night, lovely service. Sadly was visiting the area or would return again very soon.
Lovely food with brilliant service nothing was too much trouble
Booking online was easy & it was good to get another confirmation the day before. The service was friendly but not invasive. There is a good ambience inside with a lovely view of the river and further coastline. There was an interesting menu & the food was delicious, though I thought the price for 2 small lamb cutlets was rather steep. However it was a really nice evening, enjoyed by all.
Came for our 10th wedding anniversary and we weren't disappointed. Perfect service: friendly, attentive and knowledgeable without ever being intrusive. Great food, particularly the Vietnamese Beef salad starter and a great choice of interesting gins. All in a very picturesque setting. We'd definitely come back.
Would be good when booking on line to request a window table. I booked sometime ago and the option wasn't there. I was told if I had phoned I could gave requested one
Fantastic food and service as always, even came home with a take away lunch and loaf of lush homemade bread this time. Dog friendly and chatty atmosphere, dress down or up all are welcome. Can’t begin to describe the setting as it’s just stunning in any season. The food isn’t cheap but it is worth every penny. Looking forward to our next visit already
As usual, absolutely superb. I try things in there I wouldn’t normally try and it never fails to impress. I normally tend to stick to something I know in case I’m disappointed but it’s never happened here. Appledore now has some great places to eat but this is the best.
Fantastic food and great service in a wonderful setting. Couldn't ask for more!
It was Gorgeous Girlfiend's birthday meal, and I wanted to treat her to somewhere special. We have eaten at The Royal George before and thoroughly enjoyed it, and this visit maintained your record of top marks. The food is well thought out, looks fantastic and tastes just as good. Our wine was equally fine and not expensive. And the service is spot on. Thank you everybody at The Royal George.
Our food was delicious, however our dining experience would gave been greatly improved by three points. 1) To be offered a drink (Aperitif) immediately on being shown to our table. 2) The bottle of white wine we ordered needed to be considerably colder than it was, please improve your wine chiller. 3)We were a table for two, we were placed between a party of 10, a party of 6 and another party of 6. This made it very difficult to hold a conversation due to the noise levels from the other tables, please consider your individual diners needs and the reason they might be dining.
Great food, excellent service and very professional people running a superb restaurant.
We love the Royal George and would come regularly but we live in Gloucestershire. When we visit my Sister again in October we will be over for lunch. I would love to sit upstairs but one of our party cannot do stairs but equally your downstairs dining room is lovely. You have lovely friendly staff and excellent food. Our second visit.
A glass of wine was ridiculously expensive. I live in London and we don't pay £10 for a 250ml glass of rose!
Twice last year , twice this year the best food around and lovely staff . Hopefully be back next year
Lovely food, service and atmosphere. Well worth booking a table in advance as appears to get booked up quickly and you don’t want to be disappointed. Would recommend a visit if in Appledore.
Really gorgeous food, excellent location and friendly and welcoming staff.
Excellent as ever
3 of the 4 meals were excellent. One of us had the rump which she expected to be 'juicy' having been told it was served pink, but it was quite dry. She felt it needed jus or gravy. Value - quite expensive but we knew that before we booked.
Excellent food but poor bar service. When you order a glass of wine for meal but rrives when finished main meal, very annoying and too late. As stated earlier food was excellent and will try one more time but really need to sort out the bar area. We also ordered 2 espresso and 2 Bailey's took over 10 minutes
Lovely food, beautiful views and friendly courteous staff.
Casual, laid back atmosphere. Stunning setting and great food. Ace !
