About Pen & Cob
The Bedford Swan's riverside British Brasserie open all day for brunch, lunch or dinner as well as cocktails, coffee and much more!
Overall it was very good, but the bill was wrong charging us an extra £10, which was adequately resolved. Food was very tasty, but I ordered a Greek salad and was surprised to see no peppers, but tons of olives to make up for it. It also had rocket - why? Greek salad should be tomatoes, peppers, red onions, olives, feta, cucumbers (no need to remove the seeds) - olive oil, oregano (please no coriander) and wine vinegar; occasionally lettuce. It was tasty even so. The wine was an excellent merlot. The music was not too intrusive and all in all we had a very pleasant experience.
Beautiful venue in a great location, easy and convenient parking and excellent customer service. Food was also delicious, but I felt there could have been more sandwiches with more filling. Also, I feel that staff should have approached the table and asked if we would like more drinks.
Friendly staff and a great location made our visit a very good experience.
I booked a table in the restaurant, and this was confirmed by phone and email. When we arrived we were seated around a low coffee table in reception. The pots of tea were delivered twenty minutes before the sandwiches and cakes, which meant it was drunk or cold by the time we'd got the food. I'd ordered the option with prosecco which wasn't served. When I asked the waitress she said we hadn't ordered it. I went to reception and they checked the booking and confirmed it had been ordered and said it would be served. By the time it arrived we'd finished eating. The prosecco was served warm! I would have complained at the time but it was part of an eightieth birthday celebration so we just put up with it. A very disappointing experience.
First time eating here. Food excellent We shall return.
Lively modern restaurant, a total change from the tired old restaurant. Great decor, attentive young staff and good value for money. The food is not fine dining, but was very good all round.
Colin, Thank you for your kind words always great to get feedback. we look forward to seeing you again soon Ryan Hamilton F&B Manager
The food was lovely ... service was not good with staff that havent been trained properly! Waited over 30 minutes for our first drink ... then again for our last drinks and then the drinks were all incorrect. Could we such a great venue I would revisit if the service was improved!
Hi Rebecca, thank you for your feedback we always look to improve and give great service, we are sorry that we have not got it right on this occasion and is something we will continue to work on. Ryan Hamilton F&B Manager
Really nice environment and the service was excellent.
The food was very well presented and the staff were helpful and professional, although a smile would help.
The decor & the interior design is spot on. The location is also lovely next to the river. I’ve already been a couple of times since the renovation. The only thing that lets it down slightly is the drink service is quite slow & some of the food could do with more flavour for the price. Would definitely recommend for the general look & location!
Lovely meal and stunning restaurant. We will definitely be back!
This is a lovely venue, the food and service is excellent. The bar area and restaurant are furnished very well and make for a very pleasant experience. Only two small points (and this is really personal taste). I had the Caesar salad and would have like more dressing. My husband had the Salmon and would have liked more sauce. This is the third visit for us in as many weeks.
100% recommend a visit. Beautiful restaurant, excellent service and the food is amazing.
A very good meal waitress was very attentive. Overall a very enjoyable experience
Good meal overall, only criticism would be the pork on one of the Sunday roasts we ordered wasn't a great cut - there was some bone/gristle present in it. Hopefully this is just a rare exception as all the other food was great. Also, just to note I booked a table on line but they had no record of this when we turned up. Fortunately they were still able to accommodate us
Food was of a high standard, good service.
Food was average had a Cesar salad chicken was over cooked and just a plate of gem lettuce. No Parmesan shavings insight. And £2.50 for the smallest cup of cappuccino. On the plus side deco was nice
Service was friendly but slow. Fish (without batter) was overcooked and dry. Chips were not homemade as would be expected for the price. My friend's BLT sandwich was v disappointing as the bacon was cold. We did not complain because we were on a business lunch but I would not revisit which is a shame.
First visit to your restaurant. An excellent meal and will return soon.
Newly opened just a few teething problems. Staff seemed unsure of a few things and food was a little over cooked. Decor is excellent with a trendy bar which should entice a younger clientele.
Booked for brunch. Staff very welcoming and helpful and we enjoyed the food. Will certainly come again.
Had a lovely lunch on Saturday afternoon in the new restaurant. Great food great service wonderful atmosphere. We will be back
Thank you so much for your kind wards, always great to hear we are doing well. will pass these comments on to the team. Ryan Hamilton F&B Manager
Very happy with both the food and service. An intimate venue tucked away in the middle of the town.
