About The River Room
Afternoon Tea, Lunch and Dinner are served in our beautiful Lounge whilst our Bar provides and ideal location to meet up with friends, enjoy a pre-dinner drink or cocktail.
We had lunch yesterday, Sunday 9th December. The new dining room is extremely attractive. We both had roast pork which was beautifully tender. We had to ask for apple sauce and stuffing (which are the accompaniments for roast pork, as they did not feature on the menu) and these were brought to us. We had apple crumble and custard for pudding which was delicious. It was excellent value for money and we will certainly dine with you again. Many thanks.
The River Room was closed despite you confirming my reservation there only the day before!
Staff were very friendly and accommodating
A lovely afternoon spent with close family and the afternoon tea was very nice and nicely presented.
Not enough sandwiches and very dry, cakes two sweet, scones were fab though, not enough for the money but very pleasant atmosphere staff are friendly
We had a wonderful experience at The River room! Great service, lovely food and beautiful surroundings. Well worth a visit.
Lovely afternoon tea great selection of sandwiches and cakes and of course tea! Nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful hotel
Staff friendly, hand made scones were delicious.. Very filling took home a "doggy" bag as couldnt eat it all Will definately recommend and return
Very pleasant Afternoon Tea in lovely surroundings.
Initially we were seated in a lovely quiet soft sofa area, which was very relaxed, but unfortunately we were then informed that we had to move to the main dining room, we informed the waitress that we would prefer to remain where we were, but the waitress did not seem to think that this was possible, and she did not suggest looking into this further. The dining room was lovely, but very empty, and very formal in comparison to the first place we were seated, that said, the service was very good, the waiter was attentive but not annoyingly so, the tea selection was impressive, and the quality of the scones, sandwiches and cakes was very good as well. I did not feel that we were rushed in any way which was lovely, and it wasn't too busy so my friend and I could easily hear each other, and the tables were positioned so we had enough privacy. Overall a lovely experience.
great service from start to finish, great location.
Had a lovely lunch only spoilt by the gross family with four unruly children who promptly thought the restaurant was a place for them to scream and shout and show off without any discipline from the parents/adults. Also, the supposed dress code in the River Room was most certainly not followed by the tribe of half wits.
Excellent food, atmosphere, and staff.
I thought the menu was poor and I had an upset stomach in the night after eating my evening meal . Tables scratched and tatty, chairs not much better. Road noise horrendous right by the tables. Staff were excellent and attentive.
A lovely afternoon tea . Great value and good service enjoyed by all . Thank you .
We had such a lovely time and we were looked after so well. The food was delicious. Thank you
We all had a great time enjoying the afternoon tea. We were well looked after, would definitely come again. Great value for money too. Thankyou.
Celebrated my 70th Birthday with family on Sat 18th Aug. The carpet in The River Room needs replacing, it was in an awful state. This let the whole venue down as far as making a recommendation is concerned.
The food was great, some people in our party had allergies which they catered for very well! Found it a little odd when waiters started talking to each other in a different language while we were trying to pay. Sounded as though one was telling the other off, they continued speaking in a different language the whole time we were paying, just came across kind of rude.
Service was brilliant.
Lovely way to spend a Saturday lunchtime
We enjoyed the scones and cream however the could be a better selection of sandwiches
Location Great, surrounding lovely, Staff fantastic, could not do enough for us. Went for an afternoon Tea with my sister and 84 year old Mother staff made it a wonderful afternoon
When we walked in the immediate ambience left us feeling a little underwhelmed. The restaurant was all but empty and they were just moving furniture around as they were obviously setting up for another party. However, the welcome (given that we were 30 mins early) was very warm and the staff couldnt have been more accommodating. They even offered to let us swap seats after we had ordered so that my mum would have a view of the river. The food arrived quickly, was warm and DELICIOUS. The service was impeccable.. friendly and attentive. It's such a shame that the room is so tired (paint is scuffed everywhere) and the carpet is filthy in places. Though I would definitely want to eat there again, I would say that there are nicer places to have a meal and - for that reason - we probably wont be back. With some aesthetics and more attention to the actual dining experience, it would be a wonderful venue.. but right now, it's very tired and unwelcoming. Your staff probably are the difference between people coming back or not - and I couldnt recommend them more.
