About The River Restaurant - The Lowry Hotel
It’s all going on at the 2 AA Rosette River Bar and Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel, where breakfast, afternoon tea, Sunday lunch and dinner is served.
The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel is one of Manchester’s best places to eat and drink in a glass-walled, riverside setting overlooking Santiago Calatrava’s Trinity Bridge where views of Manchester from daylight sparkle to an evening glow.
The convivial atmosphere is also deeply luxurious with purple leather chairs, semi-circular banquettes, while Fornasetti plates, mirrors and lithographs and prints decorate walls, The River Restaurant also has an exclusive private dining room for up to 24 people which is licenced for weddings and civil ceremonies.
The à la carte menu has been devised around the best local and seasonal produce. An additional three-course menu changes each month following the seasonal bounty and is just £24.95 for three courses at dinner except Saturday Evening, while the popular Sunday lunch menu is £22.50 per person for three courses and is always accompanied by live music.
We have a wide range of options for our award-winning Afternoon Tea our traditional afternoon tea is available for £22.50 or upgrade and choose from our G & T, Champagne or Bellini afternoon tea for £33.00.
The adjoining River Bar and Terrace encapsulates The Lowry Hotel’s fun-loving spirit at the confluence of city life. Here you’ll find in the intimate, informal surroundings a quiet place to network, drink and kick-back with a perfectly mixed cocktail, club sandwich, salad, or more substantial dish from our menu. The cosy Library is tucked away at one end. Open until late, this is a place to enjoy our signature cocktails.
Here you will also find Manchester’s longest bar terrace — an open-air first-floor terrace for al fresco dining where you can enjoy a drink or meal from the bar or restaurant. Open year-round, The Terrace is perfect for summer afternoon get-togethers in this urban suntrap overlooking the River Irwell.
On Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons you will also be entertained with live pianist and singer Kimm
The food was absolutely fantastic, great service, very efficient.
For a luxury hotel, this afternoon tea was very disappointing - the sandwiches/savoury lacked flavour and were too big, rather than dainty afternoon style bites. A similar tale for the sweet elements, too big & far too sugary. The cheesecake was awful, the biscuit base was rock solid. The rhubarb & custard tart tasted of sugar rather than the aforementioned ingredients. The sweet elements lacked finesse. The scones however, were tasty. The Lowry Tea blend was our first choice but the teapot had the loose tea bit floating in it so we asked to change & found the tea blend had ran out (a little disappointing as the cafe was quiet). The service was ok, the waitress kindly explained the menu, the teas & our options and did a swift job of replacing the tea mentioned above.
Thank you yet again for a truly wonderful afternoon tea! The vocalist pianist just adds to the incredible fayre which is consistently provided by the chefs! The lovely lady servers are attentive, knowledgeable and therefore lift the experience!
All the staff were really friendly and a joyful to speak to! Could not expect anything more from the staff!
Excellent food and drink with matching service
We had a lovely meal and the staff were very attentive
most enjoyable experience
Dwayne was superb, really gave us the five star experience. As well as the other waiters who looked after us. We will be returning for sure.
Attended as a party of six (3 adults and 3 children) having pre-booked online for ‘children eat free afternoon tea’. Initially received 3 adults and 2 children’s sandwiches at the table and had to ask for sandwiches for the third child. When the cakes came we again had to ask for cake for the third child. Service was also poor on the drinks front... having secured a bottle of Prosecco we had to chase staff for water and for tea.. The staff did not monitor topping up the glasses of Prosecco very well and we ended up pouring our own. At the end I had to go to the till point to ask for the bill as no staff anywhere to be seen. The bill was incorrect - we had been charged for 3 adults and 1 child (despite the offer we booked under). This was rectified but then we had to ask 2 different members of staff for the remaining cakes to be boxed and stand around waiting for this to happen with children now becoming impatient. Lovely food and drinks and pleasant atmosphere just utterly terrible service!
Brought a friend for a treat lovely experience very nice staff nothing to much bother
Waited 40mins for dinner .then it was cold.breakfast was slow again and no attention from the waiters.i had to keep chasing them same again with food ordered from the kitchen 45mins for an omelette.
Fabulous afternoon tea.... from start to finish. Staff friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Highly recommend!
Staff were very friendly and made a birthday meal even more special, we had a fantastic night thank you very much!
We had a fantastic time, great food and excellent staff I would highly recommend a visit.
Hi, I booked the afternoon tea for my birthday and a spa treatment with a friend. The afternoon tea was disappointing I'm afraid. The savoury selection was the real let down. We just had basic sandwiches, nothing hot like a quiche or panini etc. The sandwiches were very basic and I can make better at home. They were egg, salmon and hummus, nothing exciting or exotic which is what I was expecting from the Lowry. The desserts were lovely apart from the scones which were a bit hard. Overall I will not be returning for afternoon tea or recommending to anyone.
Your staff were very attentive and professional, especially Guillaume. The afternoon tea was a birthday present from a friend (a big birthday!) and my husband and I enjoyed the food and the attention. Thankyou.
We had a really enjoyable evening. Food was fabulous, cooked and presented to perfection. And even though what we had were essentially a pork pie and oysters for starters, chicken and chips and fish and chips for the main course - the flavours of each ingredient were delicately balanced and made for a treasure trove of flavours to delight the tastebuds. The highlight for us both were the desserts - a cheeseboard of local cheeses and chutneys and a carrot cake that was as fun to eat as it was delicious. I am particularly grateful to the excellent waiter who discreetly pointed out to me that the bed of seaweed the breaded oysters were placed on - and I was beginning to work my way through (with some degree of difficulty I might add) was, in fact, intended for decorative purposes only - not as I wrongly guessed (it was a tight 50/50 in my head but unfortunately I backed the wrong horse so to speak), for consumption. However, my embarrassing but highly amusing (hilarious to my lovely missus - highlight of her night it turned out to be as a matter of fact - so worth it just for that) faux pas did not detract from what was an excellent meal, and wonderful service. I did feel somewhat awkward about being in such an environment in many respects and actually rather nervous initially (I don't get out much) but the fact that it was so quiet made the experience of eating there much more relaxing and enjoyable than I thought it would otherwise be. So top marks to the waiters and the chef ...and the seaweed was actually not that bad...
Was really lovely. Lovely lady called Maria really made it a great experience. She Really was so thoughtful and made sure we all had everything we needed, especially my 2 little girls. Thank you Maria.
