About The River Restaurant - The Lowry Hotel
It’s all going on at the 2 AA Rosette River Bar and Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel, where breakfast, afternoon tea, Sunday lunch and dinner is served.
The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel is one of Manchester’s best places to eat and drink in a glass-walled, riverside setting overlooking Santiago Calatrava’s Trinity Bridge where views of Manchester from daylight sparkle to an evening glow.
The convivial atmosphere is also deeply luxurious with purple leather chairs, semi-circular banquettes, while Fornasetti plates, mirrors and lithographs and prints decorate walls, The River Restaurant also has an exclusive private dining room for up to 24 people which is licenced for weddings and civil ceremonies.
The à la carte menu has been devised around the best local and seasonal produce. An additional three-course menu changes each month following the seasonal bounty and is just £24.95 for three courses at dinner except Saturday Evening, while the popular Sunday lunch menu is £22.50 per person for three courses and is always accompanied by live music.
We have a wide range of options for our award-winning Afternoon Tea our traditional afternoon tea is available for £22.50 or upgrade and choose from our G & T, Champagne or Bellini afternoon tea for £33.00.
The adjoining River Bar and Terrace encapsulates The Lowry Hotel’s fun-loving spirit at the confluence of city life. Here you’ll find in the intimate, informal surroundings a quiet place to network, drink and kick-back with a perfectly mixed cocktail, club sandwich, salad, or more substantial dish from our menu. The cosy Library is tucked away at one end. Open until late, this is a place to enjoy our signature cocktails.
Here you will also find Manchester’s longest bar terrace — an open-air first-floor terrace for al fresco dining where you can enjoy a drink or meal from the bar or restaurant. Open year-round, The Terrace is perfect for summer afternoon get-togethers in this urban suntrap overlooking the River Irwell.
On Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons you will also be entertained with live pianist and singer Kimm
Took my mum for Afternoon Tea as Birthday treat. Food, service and surroundings all excellent and as midweek, good value too. Would definitely return
First visit and we had a most enjoyable time. Dinner was a birthday gift and after such an enjoyable time we will plan to return. Staff could not have been more accommodating and attentive. A great first experience of The River Restaurant for the both of us.
Lovely afternoon tea with impeccable service , we particularly enjoyed the warm scones and cream . We would definatley reccommend .
The food and service from the staff that night was very good. Only slip up had to wait 30 minutes for our dessert. Would book again and would recommend.
After the horrendous disaster trying to book my virgin experience day I was dreading coming. But when the manager called me back regarding my voicemail I had left about my booking situation she was totally apologetic and I was told as a gesture of good will and the inconvenience which had been caused she will give me and my partner both a glass of complimentary champagne. Last night when I asked the gentleman on the door regarding the champagne his response was “it’s not on my paper on this clipboard so I’m afraid you don’t have it “ . At no attempt did he want to make a solution or even apologise. When paying the balance on our bill we where asked if we had enjoyed our meal to which we where honest and replied no and all the gentleman said was “ ok sorry to hear it “ didn’t ask why ? How it could of been improved ? I believe giving honest feedback to organisations like yourself goes a long way. Your customer service throughout the whole experience has been very disappointing and I will not be returning.
It was very quiet hence the medium score for atmosphere xx. Would highly recommend
It was very difficult to make a booking here. I was transferred to the restaurant on 3 separate occasions and left voicemail messages for someone to call me and they didn’t so sent an email. I didn’t get a reply! I then booked through your receptionist who booked afternoon tea instead of Sunday lunch. However we finally arrived and the food was very good and great value for money. We were placed at the back of the restaurant which had no atmosphere as most people were at the front near the windows. Also the bench seats are VERY low where 3 of us grown ups (!) had to sit on cushions like toddlers!! However we enjoyed the food but no crackling with the pork - which rendered one of our 5 a bit grumpy!!! The M’d was excellent.
The food was delicious, the staff were attentive and very welcoming and the overall experience was fantastic, Will be returning very soon.
The food was delicious and good value for money . The wine however was expensive. The waiters were a little too zealous at refilling the wine glasses.
Enjoyed our Afternoon Tea which was bought for us by my Daughter as a Christmas Present. We celebrated my husband's 81st Birthday. We both enjoyed it, just wish they would have supplied something like a mini cake slice of tongs, as it was a little difficult to pick up the cakes from the stand, which were delicious.
Excellent service and staff were lovely, would recommend to friends to visit
The staff are excellent.
Very helpful and professional staff Excellent food, well presented The restaurant was a lovely room with original ,eye-catching decor. A memorable evening. Thank you.
Friendly, attentive staff. Unfortunately the food didn’t live up to our expectations ☹️
Restored my faith in the River Restaurant (after bad experience a few years ago) - great food and excellent service. Still a bit pricey, even with the January deal, but enjoyable, nevertheless.
Excellent afternoon tea c
Great atmosphere, chef's choice menu very good, breakfast excellent.
The surroundings were luxurious and comfortable, the staff attentive and friendly, the food delicious with splashes of bright flavours. All of it wrapped up in a relaxing yet refined atmosphere. Thank you for making my mum's birthday very special.
Staff very approachable they make you feel at ease with your surroundings. Great service nothing is to much trouble the person on reception was exceptional in answering my query when I telephoned.
First class food presented perfectly. The staff are knowledgeable and very attentive. We will certainly be back, thank you to the team you really did spoil us.
We booked via a virgin Experience Day voucher. Although the selection from the menu was limited the food was excellent and the service.
My favourite dining experience always 😍
A fabulous dining experience !
Had afternoon tea with my friend - was absolutely beautiful. We chose the Manchester Honey Bee Tea which was delightful and it's a shame we cannot find it online to buy! Informed the waiter we did not like tuna so they happily swapped them for chicken sandwiches. Deserts were out of this world - absolutely delicious! Will be returning with family and friends!
I had the overnight voucher for one night plus dinner. The staff gave me a very small seasonal menu and told me that this was the deal. Upon returning home I see the voucher actually did not state this and gave an example of the full menu. This small seasonal menu really ruined our experience on this restaurant. Also I got the feeling staff were tired of dealing with voucher deals. I would not use this restaurant again
