About The River Restaurant - The Lowry Hotel
It’s all going on at the 2 AA Rosette River Bar and Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel, where breakfast, afternoon tea, Sunday lunch and dinner is served.
The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel is one of Manchester’s best places to eat and drink in a glass-walled, riverside setting overlooking Santiago Calatrava’s Trinity Bridge where views of Manchester from daylight sparkle to an evening glow.
The convivial atmosphere is also deeply luxurious with purple leather chairs, semi-circular banquettes, while Fornasetti plates, mirrors and lithographs and prints decorate walls, The River Restaurant also has an exclusive private dining room for up to 24 people which is licenced for weddings and civil ceremonies.
The à la carte menu has been devised around the best local and seasonal produce. An additional three-course menu changes each month following the seasonal bounty and is just £24.95 for three courses at dinner except Saturday Evening, while the popular Sunday lunch menu is £22.50 per person for three courses and is always accompanied by live music.
We have a wide range of options for our award-winning Afternoon Tea our traditional afternoon tea is available for £22.50 or upgrade and choose from our G & T, Champagne or Bellini afternoon tea for £33.00.
The adjoining River Bar and Terrace encapsulates The Lowry Hotel’s fun-loving spirit at the confluence of city life. Here you’ll find in the intimate, informal surroundings a quiet place to network, drink and kick-back with a perfectly mixed cocktail, club sandwich, salad, or more substantial dish from our menu. The cosy Library is tucked away at one end. Open until late, this is a place to enjoy our signature cocktails.
Here you will also find Manchester’s longest bar terrace — an open-air first-floor terrace for al fresco dining where you can enjoy a drink or meal from the bar or restaurant. Open year-round, The Terrace is perfect for summer afternoon get-togethers in this urban suntrap overlooking the River Irwell.
On Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons you will also be entertained with live pianist and singer Kimm
The staff are lovely and attentive, looked after us well
We were initially not feeling positive about our visit as we booked 6 months ago and the night before emailed to be told our booking would be a different time - although on the night we were given our original booking time. Service was exceptional the only real let down were the lights - we walked in and it looked amazing - perfect atmosphere but by the time we were on mains the lights were turned up and it ruined the atmosphere. We queried with a team member who said the manager said the lights were staying as they were - far too bright! The only other small amend would be for team to be wearing ironed shirts to mirror the cost of the meals. All in all excellent service and great food and drink - just a shame about the lights.
Very slow service I'm afraid. Took about 20mins for the sandwiches. And there was another long gap after the sandwiches and before the cakes. Another couple who came in after is were served before us as they were sitting in another section. We only got offered water when everyone else in the other section had has two lots. Very disappointed
Delicious Sunday lunch and amazing service in a fantastic location. We had vouchers from Virgin for Sunday lunch for 2 with a glass of wine. We were certainly not disappointed in the quality or quantity of the food as it was incredible and the service was excellent. Our waiter, sorry wish I could remember his name, was very polite & attentive and had a great sense of humour. Thank you just wish we lived nearer .
Amazing afternoon tea and cocktails everything from start to finish was lovely . The staff were very helpful and took time to chat and made us feel so welcome. The atmosphere/music just topped it off .Perfect . I had allergies and they did fantastic for me too .
Excellent waiter service
would have given 5 stars for food but my main course was cold.
Main course portions are tiny. Really, they need to include sides at least.
Loved our dinner but found live music was not for a quite resturant and it was live coming FROM the bar area couldnt hear what my husband was saying..
Service and afternoon tea amazing
Lovely food, great service! Looking forward to coming back.
Thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Good service,Very good food and drink served in a very feel good atmosphere.
Everything was fantastic
Lovely evening, delicious food however service was very slow in addition the staff need to be have a greater understanding of the dishes and their constituents.
Superb service, excellent surroundings and brilliant food. We will be back for more.
Absolutely amazing experience. Staff were very friendly and helpful! The food was to die for and beautifully presented. Live music in the lounge was also rather delightful! 5** from me!
The setting was very nice and we were attended to quickly as we arrived and shown to out table. Sandwiches were just ok not very tasty and the bread was hard we had to ask twice for our drinks. We didn't finish our fancy cakes and wasn't asked if we would like them boxing up take away which has always been the case when we've had Afternoon Tea at other establishments felt disappointed as we were really looking forward to this, dont think we would revisit when there are so many other places to choose from.
Attended the New Years eve dinner. Food was excellent, the atmosphere was terrible ! A DJ playing awful music throughout dinner lighting was like a school canteen. We left at 11.00 as it was so dire a really disappointing NYE.
Had a fantastic afternoon tea on NYE! My sister, brother in law and 2 nieces (both under 3yrs) were visiting from Australia and we chose to spend our last day together having afternoon tea at the Lowry. Ali in the restaurant and Hayley downstairs in the reception area were both brilliant, so great with my young nieces and really made us feel welcome. The afternoon tea was brilliant as always, beautifully presented and delicious. It’s my third time visiting for afternoon tea and it won’t be my last!
Fantastic lunch at the Lowry felt very good and blissful .
had a lovely afternoon lovely staff and nice hotel nice food and cakes
Not a good experience at all! I had called to say I didn’t eat meat, however then had to remind staff. Waitress went to ask the kitchen who told her they would do egg sandwiches of which I’m not a fan. She went back to the kitchen at my suggestion, I asked if it was possible to have hummus, salad, tuna, avocado, roasted vegetables. Reluctantly by the kitchen I was given two of my suggestions. Staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing, the tea was the weakest I have ever had and at no point was it replenished or were we asked if we wanted it replenishing. My friend felt the bread was dry as were the cakes. I go for regular afternoon teas and this has to have been the worst I’ve ever had! Very disappointing.
Service was great especially Judith. Nice to have a singer/musician on for the atmosphere. Lovely decor. Food was nice, the only disappointment for me was the breakfast tea which was too floral for me.
Excellent food. Excellent service will be visiting again soon.
