About The River Restaurant - The Lowry Hotel
It’s all going on at the 2 AA Rosette River Bar and Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel, where breakfast, afternoon tea, Sunday lunch and dinner is served.
The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel is one of Manchester’s best places to eat and drink in a glass-walled, riverside setting overlooking Santiago Calatrava’s Trinity Bridge where views of Manchester from daylight sparkle to an evening glow.
The convivial atmosphere is also deeply luxurious with purple leather chairs, semi-circular banquettes, while Fornasetti plates, mirrors and lithographs and prints decorate walls, The River Restaurant also has an exclusive private dining room for up to 24 people which is licenced for weddings and civil ceremonies.
The à la carte menu has been devised around the best local and seasonal produce. An additional three-course menu changes each month following the seasonal bounty and is just £24.95 for three courses at dinner except Saturday Evening, while the popular Sunday lunch menu is £22.50 per person for three courses and is always accompanied by live music.
We have a wide range of options for our award-winning Afternoon Tea our traditional afternoon tea is available for £22.50 or upgrade and choose from our G & T, Champagne or Bellini afternoon tea for £33.00.
The adjoining River Bar and Terrace encapsulates The Lowry Hotel’s fun-loving spirit at the confluence of city life. Here you’ll find in the intimate, informal surroundings a quiet place to network, drink and kick-back with a perfectly mixed cocktail, club sandwich, salad, or more substantial dish from our menu. The cosy Library is tucked away at one end. Open until late, this is a place to enjoy our signature cocktails.
Here you will also find Manchester’s longest bar terrace — an open-air first-floor terrace for al fresco dining where you can enjoy a drink or meal from the bar or restaurant. Open year-round, The Terrace is perfect for summer afternoon get-togethers in this urban suntrap overlooking the River Irwell.
On Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons you will also be entertained with live pianist and singer Kimm
New 3 course menu lovely, bit limited for vegetarians. Additional bread and oil option - bread too heavy. Cheesecake dessert a delight. Lovely experience all round except the Prosecco wasn’t offered even though part of our deal. Rectified on check out. Wonderful.
Overpriced drinks and lukewarm food not really very happy
We were literally treated like royalty. Loved loved it
Lovely experience from start to finish.
Excellent food, professional service and friendly, knowledgeable staff
An amazing experience and would most definitely come again!
Had afternoon tea here on the Saturday and breakfast in the Sunday, the afternoon tea was good, drinks a little expensive, the breakfast was excellent. Service was above average. Would have the breakfast again, probably wouldn’t do the afternoon tea again
Our first visit for Afternoon Tea and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The quality of the food was excellent and the service was great-welcoming, friendly and polite. We will be back! Hopefully the live pianist will be there the next time. Thank you
Fantastic service from the moment I enquired about parking right throughout the evening while enjoying our exceptional meal.. The staff are very friendly and pleasant.. Looking forward to coming back for another exceptional meal..
Food was lovely and fresh
Lovely afternoon tea. Service could not be faulted. Would definitely recommend.
Lovely afternoon with great service.
We arrived Monday afternoon and was shown to the room where we were having afternoon tea. I was quite disappointed when we got there as the room was basic , had no other diners and had no atmosphere. When we finished our sandwiches we were immediately offered our desserts, to which we asked for a break as we were out for my mums birthday, and therefore didn’t want to rush and be all done within twenty minutes. As there were no other diners in there I felt the staff were waiting for us to finish, so once we had eaten we left. As we were leaving I asked if the bar down stairs was open so we could go for birthday drinks, and the lady explained that the bar was closed as it was being renovated. Overall , I cannot fault the staff who served us, they were friendly , polite and attentive and often asked if we needed anything. However, We had high expectations, given the reputation of the Lowry, to which our experience didn’t match. It felt a very basic, room which provided no ambiance, and lead to a quite rushed visit leaving us to feel deflated and disappointed .
A lovely afternoon tea, very relaxing and enjoyable. Thanks.
We were not in the dining room due to refurbishment and there was no live music so my atmosphere score is relevant to the surroundings we had. The food and service were exemplary. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and truly delicious. The only problem we had was the disabled toilet facilities. We were two couples dining together and my friend is unable to use toilet facilities without assistance. The disabled toilets are within the ladies and gents facilities. This was fine for us however am unsure what would have happened if they had been a lone couple. Would she have had to use the disabled toilet within the gents or would her husband have had to assist her into the ladies? This would not prevent us from returning as the plusses outweighed this minor problem and it woul be nice to be entertained in the true dining room with live music.
Celebrated my 40th here with my friends and had a fantastic time. Food and service was excellent as ever. Thanks
Excellent service and a beautiful sunday lunch. It has to be the nicest sunday lunch we have had in any restaurant. Looking forward to seeing the new restaurant when it opens
The food was superb as was the service - absolutely could not fault it. I understand the River restaurant is being refurbished but the ballroom area just didn't have the atmosphere and did not reflect what you would expect from The Lowry. I sat opposite a white screen with dirty handprints on it which was a disappointing environment. We booked the lunch for our wedding anniversary - there was no pianist as the description advised (due to the refurb) so the ambience just wasn't what we expected. I strongly recommend once its back in The River restaurant
Would definitely go there again, staff were lovely, food was amazing and lovely portion sizes.
We had afternoon tea which was delicious. The staff were all very attentive and very pleasant. A delightful time and we are planning to go back with my daughters in a few weeks time.
very nice location excellent service , food was very nice and tasty, would highly recomend visiting here
Great Sunday lunch with fantastic service. All staff were really helpful.
Unbelievably attentive service. The front of house team were so on there game. One of the best I experienced. Given that it had a good atmosphere in a temporary restaurant room they did well to create a good feeling , aided by the fabulous singer and pianist . Food was good, truffle chips a super indulgence. Only criticism was the toffee pudding which was a tad dry . That said would go back for sure .
Very pleasant experience although it could have been better if the River Room had been open but there's always a next time!
