About The Rising Sun
Set in the historic village of Backwell, The Rising Sun is perfectly placed for a weekend away exploring the North Somerset countryside.
This traditional pub is ideal for a spot of lunch or dinner, a countryside retreat, or for a rest stop en route to Bristol International Airport.
Our ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible to ensure the best quality and freshness. We stock a great range of ciders, lagers, and real ales and present a carefully chosen wine list to complement.
Great food and fabulous service, though a bit pricey
We spend a lovely lunchtime in a pod, with heating, fairylights and the feeling of being at a festival! Food is good quality, with decent portions. Would highly recommend the fish and chips. Good service. Will be back!
We had a nice time at the rising sun the garden pod was cute , the heat lamp was surprisingly good even on a very wet & windy afternoon. Did seem to be a lot of staff milling about although our waiter was very attentive. We had a steak & a fish main meal which were both perfect couldn’t fault them was slightly annoying that the pizzas weren’t available to order until 5pm which wasn’t stated at booking & was pretty much the only option for kids so we ended up eating at separate times to the kids. Overall it was just great to be out & we appreciate the effort made to enable people to do this in the dry. It was a fun experience.
Really slow service again. Seated left for at least 15 mins had to ask if someone would take our drink order . Food was very good though
Excellent set up, loved the pods in the secret garden, especially the overhead heaters!! Food was excellent quality so we didn’t mind paying slightly more than your average pub prices. Definitely recommend the roast beef!
Absolutely fabulous. Food amazing. The Secret Garden is so good, we are already looking at coming back. The Rooms are so clean and the bed is the best I have slept in. Staff are so helpful and cheerful. Real pleasure to stay here.
It’s my second visit in 2 weeks. Love the set up of booking your own private space but still able to enjoy a pub/restaurant atmosphere. The Roasts were amazing and so were the puddings! Great service. Highly recommend.
Wonderful service, attentive without being intrusive. Lovely setting and great food. Can't say enough good about it!
Food was great!
Very, very nice roast.
Amazing evening spent here. True to say it’s the company that makes an evening but the atmosphere is what allows all to bathe in pure happiness - and the staff and the venue allow this to happen effortlessly. Really recommend all to visit and certainly will try and get down there more. Great work guys.
Great venue, good food and spot on staff service. A bit pricey- hence only the four stars. For a treat night however I’d recommend The Rising Sun, especially as they have put significant effort into getting their outdoor seating right.
We had a lovely night in our warm pod! It was really pretty, great atmosphere, and fab service! Can’t wait to go again!
We felt the prices were a little overpriced. We were a family of 4 (2a 2c) We had 8 drinks non of them alcoholic, 4 main meals 2 of which were from the children’s menu, 1 adults starter and 2 deserts and spent just over £100. We wouldn’t usually spend that amount but as a treat it’s justified. The thicker chips on all of our plates were also abit underdone and still hard/raw in the middle, worth mentioning to the chef. But overall we still had a lovely experience and would come again if it was for a special occasion. Also want to add it would be good to see pizza on the children’s menu and a 3 course menu meal deal for the children too.
Had a great early evening meal. Attentive service, kids loved the play area and very tasty pizza and burgers. Will defo be back
With everything happening within the last year and everyone’s anxiety is going crazy! Including mine the rising pub and staff have been amazing!! Highly recommend they kept to rules and no issues at all. Will be coming back again! The idea of the secret garden made it better too and it was an extra touch
Lovely setting, space and staff. Excellent food, service above and beyond and great play equipment for kids.
Service and food was great, staff really friendly. Drinks are expensive though. The outdoor area has been done really well and really lucky to have this on my doorstep.
Love the pods, such a lovely experience.
We loved the food, but the service was terrible. We arrived at 5.45 in the hope the kids could eat and leave in good time to get them to bed, but it took ages to get the the only waiter who was taking orders in the outside gardens attention to order. The QR link to the website to order was only possible for drinks - the waiter had no idea that you couldn’t order food. Other tables were getting their food before us. We finally ate our main courses at 8pm!!! The kids were very grumpy indeed and we were sad that this treat turned out to be a very frustrating experience.
Secret Garden was fab, very friendly staff and food was lovely. I will definitely be coming back.
Very enjoyable. Rather chilly but we did allow for that and came prepared. It did mean we ate rather quickly as the food cooled down. Good to have a heater. Prices on the high side, considering we had paid extra for the tent. Early afternoon slot meant that it was rather quiet. The styling of the 'pods' was very pleasing and it was certainly a novel experience which we would repeat.
Lovely set up felt it had been well organised in the current situation - heaters were fab but timer coy do with being longer we were getting up every 10 minutes to put it back on
