About The Restaurant at Taplow House Hotel
Serving breakfast, all day dining, lunch and dinner, The Restaurant is perfectly located with views over the grounds. Sit back, relax and enjoy our world class food in Maidenhead - if you're lucky, you might even spot some Taplow deers hopping through the gardens!
The Restaurant is open to both hotel residents and non-residents but make sure you book ahead to secure your table.
A repeat visit (20-21 Sept 2019) that unfortunately fell way short of expectations from the great experience we had in Dec 2018. Clearly new management and a number of very new staff that appeared to have very little experience in hotel and catering going by the amount of things we experienced and saw going wrong. One couple got coffee instead of tea Saturday, and then we got the same at breakfast the following morning. The manager appeared to be giving several members of staff on the job training at busy eating times. We did appreciate the complimentary wine for sitting us late at dinner, which was unfortunate after the wait we had for the cream tea earlier in the day. For this type of venue and the pricing, I expect competent members of staff in place to make it run well which is what we had before. As people were checked in at breakfast, they were asked about tea or coffee and preference of toast, then asked to select a table without being shown to it - so no wonder the server doesn't know where to take the tea/coffee or toast. Credit to the reception staff and barman. We had the same room as before (James 1st) up on the top floor and is a room with great character, but the lighting is not great and the up-lighter lamp by the fireplace is still not working after we asked in December if it could be sorted out. It' the only light in that half of the room possibly due to the listed status of that part of the building. I do wish them a rapid learning experience to help keep up standards there.
V impressed. Delicious food which (as a London based person) often find country food doesn’t measure up. This did. Good wine by glass as well. My mother had three courses and as a vegetarian was impressed with the many good quality options. I had two courses and a glass wine (Italian red). Total cost £113. Big thumbs up for the coffee parfait dessert with honey comb. They also took note of our request for a window seat and we saw bunnies running in the grounds.
The gardens are beautiful and the house is lovely. But there was no one else there so it lacked atmosphere and the tea itself was average, certainly wasnt worth the £50 I spent on it!! There wasnt a menu for the different teas they do. They didnt ask if there was one particular sandwich that you would like more or less of. The cakes were average. Wouldnt go back.
I was disappointed by the service. Unfortunately I won't be going back.
Disappointed with the food we had. The staff were polite and offered good service.
The evening meal was excellent, 3 perfect courses with a dessert I could have eaten all over again
Dinner was fabulous. Best dinner we have had during our 5 weeks traveling around England, Scotland & Wales!
Beautiful location. Lovely staff
Service first class! Meal excellent, could not fault it, so enjoyable! Can't wait to visit again.
Dinner was delicious and very good value. However, although the staff were friendly, the service was slow. Also having run out of Amaretto the night before, and we specifically said we were going to be in the restaurant and would want Amaretto, they still had not bought any in.
We arrived for 3.00pm. Our tea & coffee was served quickly. However, we waited for another 20 minutes and then jam and cream was served. We then waited a further 10 minutes, then called the waitress over, who asked us if everything was alright. She looked at the table and did not appear to notice she had not brought us the scones to go with the cream and jam! The scones were delicious.
Service was extremely slow. We asked for an Amaretto but bar had run out. Asked if they could make sure there was a bottle for Saturday and was told 'It was the weekend but would try!" The bar still had none on Saturday. Quality of food was excellent and package was good value.
Food (in particular the slow cooked pork belly) was faultless - fresh tasty produce cooked and presented absolutely beautifully...will definitely be visiting again!
Excellent starters and Mains, too full to attempt desserts. Overall very enjoyable
This was a most enjoyable stay to celebrate our 53rd wedding anniversary. The food for our dinner was exceptional. Thank you
The restaurant team are first rate and strike just the right balance between friendly and formal ... I have been a guest at the hotel for 4 evenings and the menu has remained the same each evening but why a fabulous selection with all the key areas covered. They take a traditional dish and give it a professional culinary twist in terms of flavour and appearance ... a work of art on the plate and a taste sensation in the mouth... Well done Chef ! One small suggestion .. the Muse Bouche might need a refresh to keep pace with the other oral delights? Great job and see you all again soon I am sure
Waited over 40 minutes for sandwiches , they didn't understand vegetarian, they thought fish was ok, the hot chocolate I had was just hot milk with chocolate powder on too
Fantastic as always. Thank you.
Fantastic as usual.
The quality and presentation of the food at both dinner and breakfast was very good. Hot, tasty and very nicely presented.
One of the worst experiences at a hotel I have ever had. Room was filthy.
It was a great shame to see such a fantastic afternoon tea with so few people experiencing it. If you can find some way of people seeing your hotel when they look for afternoon tea near cliveden, as there must be many people like us who want to visit cliveden and want a quality afternoon tea like yours nearby.
Amazing food, will book again!
I was slightly surprised to be charged for a soft drink with my afternoon when I wasn’t drinking tea or coffee as everywhere else I have had afternoon tea have been happy to substitute. Food was delicious, a good selection
