Massive selections of cakes and 2 scones each was plenty. We just didnt have enough sandwiches. We only got a plate with 4 fingers each - equivalent to one sandwich. So we asked for more and we got a another plate with 4 each again which we had to pay £3.95 for. We would have preferred equal amounts of cake and sandwiches. The bread was very very dry and you could tell they had been stored in a fridge for quite some time.
The only criticism that I have is with the starters. My husband had the starter of ham hock pate, and the portion was miniscule! It was literally thumb sized. It was more of an appetiser than a starter! Also, the pumpernickel bread to go with it was burnt, and because it had been left in the fridge it was all floppy, not crispy at all! I felt so sorry for him that I gave him half of my prawn cocktail, but even with that, I think a small brown bread roll and a pat of butter would look far more appetising than ready buttered bread!
All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food menu, presentation & taste, in fact everything, was exceptional. A very enjoyable experience was had by both of us. Well done.
Even though we live local we hadn’t been to the restaurant for over a year but after yesterday’s visit we will be coming back, it was the best Sunday lunch we’ve had in a long time!
Sunday lunch very nice, children's menu has a good choice. Had to wait quite a long time for our main course (around 45 mins) which is a long time when you have small children.
We arrived for afternoon tea. Lovely food but would suggest perhaps a couple more sandwiches and a little less cake.
myself and colleagues have a corporate membership and dine with you on a regular basis. We normally have the Tapas which is great social way to eat. Having sat down we was told only half of the Tapas were available. We still went ahead with the Tapas, the sticky chicken was not as nice as usual. The chips we ordered we virtually black and luke warm, so we asked them to be changed. when the replacements came they were too blonde and looked like oven chips, rathr than the usual hand crafted masterpieces which are normally delicious.
A little disappointing, sandwiches felt as though they had been made earlier in the day and refrigerated, so the bread was quite dry. Fruit scone was under cooked with raw dough in the centre.
Quality food and the service to match and such a fantastic surrounding. Will definitely be visiting again.
Very nice meal but sadly let down by the so slow service - waited 15 minutes for a menu after being seated. The restaurant was not busy just two other tables apart from us & took 2 hours to serve 2 courses. Also staff not at all welcoming or friendly especially the head waiter who saw us to our table.
Given that our visit was a gift voucher, we were really looking forward to our afternoon tea. What a disappointment! The sandwiches and cakes were dried out and stale. It was a lovely setting, but the food was a disgrace. Although we had told reception that we had a gift card, no-one had passed the message onto staff and so when we left were pursued for payment, before they realised we had a gift card. I would not recommend afternoon tea.
This is the second time recently we have eaten in the restaurant at the weekend and have been disappointed both times. Chicken, meatballs and Chorizo Tapas on the Saturday evening we went were all overcooked and the triple cooked chips were soft and floppy. Sunday lunch was average, pork and beef overcooked and the prawns in the prawn cocktail starter were so tasteless and watery I sent it back for something else! It is strange because we have eaten in the restaurant quite often in the week after playing golf and the food has been fabulous! We have had the Tapas 3 times now during the week and cannot fault it. The same with the fish and chips or steaks, really good. Triple cooked chips in the week fantastic; at the weekend not crispy, overcooked or like oven chips. Its like its two different restaurants! Wont stop me eating there in the week but no more at the weekend.
Happy friendly helpful staff
We had a lovely afternoon tea for my friends baby shower. The only thing I would comment on is that the jam was like sauce and didn’t really work with the cream and scones.
Really good experience would of liked to have been offered a table outside because it was a great evening but having said that I didn’t ask either. On the whole very good food good service friendly staff will be booking again soon for definite
Friendly staff and lovely food , it was nice to come back after getting married there 4 years ago for a treat , will definitely be returning
Food was excellent and presentation 10/10 also table service was very efficient which is a must when sitting with an inpatient 6month old. I will be returning in December for the Christmas Set Menu which sounds Delicious.
Lovely meal and great service, will definitely recommend you and will also be visiting again. Thank You
I won tea for 2 & it was lovely Good food,Beautiful views outside & inside is so relaxing. Staff very friendly & attentive Good all round afternoon tea. Kim & Charlotte
Excellent service by smiling staff. Great food and good value.
Faultless afternoon tea experience
Great champagne breakfast, well worth every penny! Fantastic service, amazing views & ambience. First class
Lovely food Friendly staff
Service was incredibly slow and very disjointed. The staff were pleasant but unattentive. The chairs on our table had food/ crumbs on from the diners before us? And although this was not a major issue this is not something that I would expect to see. We dined at 4pm and I am unsure whether the time played a part in our experience? Both myself and husband remarked that after the service we received we would not rush back, which is a shame as we really enjoyed the food (once it arrived).
Best Sunday roast had in a long time!
