Dear Horsley Lodge Thank you for sending me your feedback form to complete, unfortunately I have two unfavourable comments for you to consider. 1. The atmosphere 2. Value for money. My husband and I invited two friends and an elderly relative to join us for lunch yesterday in your restaurant. Having been several times before and always enjoyed the meal and hospitality we were looking forward to a pleasant lunchtime spent with friends. Unfortunately our experience of yesterday lunchtime did not meet our expectations. It was in fact embarrassing. We were greeted and seated efficiently and our pre lunch drinks came and we perused the lunchtime menu. 1. The atmosphere It soon became apparent that on a table adjacent to us two people were working and administering a business. It was not a working lunch, it was an ‘office’ which was apparent with all the paperwork scattered around. To our astonishment one of these people was joined by what I would describe as a ‘physiotherapist’ who discussed at length a back problem with one of the people and then asked said person to stand and proceeded to examine their back. I know all this as it took place within 6ft of our table. The ‘physiotherapist’ then left. At least three times during our lunch business phone calls were made on their mobile phones and such was the volume that we were unable to continue with our own lunchtime conversation because they were so loud. 2. Value for money. The two gentlemen in our party ordered Pie of the Day, which were fine. The three ladies all ordered grilled swordfish at £14.95 per head. When our dish was served we sat waiting in anticipation for some vegetables. When none arrived we enquired and were informed that vegetables were extra. One of my party decided to order vegetables, these arrived at the second time of asking. Three new potatoes cut in half, served with a small piece of swordfish and white wine sauce are not in my book value for money at £14.95. Four of my party ordered desserts with trepidation, but they were fine. Altogether we had a very disappointing experience. I would appreciate a timely response to my comments. Regards Mrs Kathleen Green
It was my mother's 90th birthday and as always "she didn't want to make a fuss!" but all the staff were polite and treated her like the wonderful lady she is! the birthday card was an excellent touch. From the 2 year old to the vegan option we went away happy and content. Couldn't fault the food or the price! Thanks again
Great service and lovely food.
The service was slow to take an order for drinks and food , after which it improved . We all though the food was good and value for money .
Lovely champagne breakfast we were all very happy and satisfied with the service the young man was lovely. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was very chilled and relaxing and would highly recommend.
I had a lovely birthday lunch thank you
Dreadful cream tea-would expect much higher standard from Horsley Lodge. Gluten free sandwiches were boring ( all white bread and one had just cucumber in it). Scone completely disintegrated into cm sized pieces so could not put jam & cream on it and other cakes not tasty at all. Very disappointing
We have visited Horsley Lodge fairly regularly and, over the years, the menu has varied enormously. Since our last visit, sadly the choice of food and the quality has deteriorated and we were really disappointed with our meal. I had the"Horsley Burger" which amazingly was the most expensive main on the menu. The burger was so overcooked it was unpleasant and I was shocked that for £13.50 the only things on my plate was the burger bun and a bucket of chips. No salad, no nothing! My husband ordered Pie of the Day, listed as Steak & Ale on the boards. It turned out to be chicken and mushroom. He said it was ok, but wouldn't have chosen it. We both had the pork terrine starter which, strangely, was warm, as was the picalli. We had to ask for bread, which we would expect for a pate type starter. Our companions were content with their meals but, all in all, unless you have a rethink about your very restricted menu and provide food which is good value for money, I'm afraid we will be going elsewhere. Our bill was over £120 for four lunches - and it really wasn't worth it. I'm sorry to be so negative but you did email us to seek our opinion about our lunch.
Nice restaurant, great location, great food, great service, can’t understand why it’s so quiet-
Could do with more sandwiches and less on the cake, do not put lemon and grapefruit tart on, as it tasted like you were eating lemon peel, scones were lovely and so was the tea, would go again.
Fabulous afternoon. Really enjoyed it. My daughter and son first experience. Booked again for June as it is my daughter's 12th birthday. She wants afternoon tea. Think it is the China cups!!!
Evening meal faultless. Breakfast a little hit and miss. There was no jam or butter with croissants, no cutlery to get the fruit off the platter and no yogurt with the fruit as advertised on menu. The cooked breakfast was excellent.
Lovely meal, great service!
The food was excellent and the staff friendly.
The portions of sandwiches and cakes were very small and no where near enough for a party of four. The tea selection was good but we never had the opportunity to try any other flavours as we were never asked by a member of staff. Very disappointing day out.
a very nice sunday lunch but did miss having garden peas a beautiful dessert bakewell tart and raspberry ripple ice cream a perfect treat for my special birthday
Everything was lovely - setting staff food ambience. Perhaps a few more interesting none alcoholic drinks would be good. We were offered coke lemonade and fruit juice. Just a thought but we loved the experience - thank you
The afternoon tea was very expensive for only a few small sandwiches and the overall service we received. The waiter dumped the afternoon tea stand on our table and walked off without a word and never told us what the cakes were, we then had to ask a waitress what they were and she did not even know, even after checking with the kitchen. I had to approach the bar several times to ask for water/ hot water etc as no member of staff came to check on us at any time. Very disappointed.
It was a lovely evening, the cokes were flat but other than that it was perfect
We were a party of 10 & the food & service was excellent & would highly recommend & will be returning.
champagne breakfast,a fantaboulous way to celebrate a big birthday, thank you, the service was second to none, we didn't feel rushed, even when dinner diners were coming in
We waited a very long time for our main course at Sunday lunch. Starters - 3 of us had mushroom and blue cheese salad. One had a small piece of cheese about half an inch long and wide. Two had one tiny crumb of blue cheese. We didn't want to spoil a rare family get together by complaining at the time.
Service was extremely poor. Waited 20 mins for starters then almost another hour for the mains which came out minus the sauces to go with the steaks. My steak was cooked to my liking but nearly warm, the chips tasted like they had been cooked the day before then warmed up again. All in all very poor. The Manager took a round of drinks off the bill but we would rather have had a good meal with good service and paid for the drinks
Excellent service.good food and a pleasant relaxed atmosphere
Loved the afternoon tea experience. We Sat right by the window so we had an amazing view . The food was lovely and we both came away totally stuffed and couldn’t of eaten another thing . Staff were very friendly and will definitely return soon . Thankyou
