About The Rectory Hotel
The Rectory Hotel's restaurant serves British food with a modern touch, simplicity which over delivers.
We loved our dining experience at The Rectory, it was a double birthday celebration. We started with drinks in the bar and these were carried for us when we went through to the restaurant. It is beautifully decorated, including the rest room! The food was fantastic and very reasonable and the staff treated us like royalty throughout the evening.
My Wife and I were given a voucher to stay here as a wedding present. We used it on our first anniversary and it was simply wonderful. From the moment we arrived, the service we received was fantastic. Every member of staff was extremely helpful and pleasant. The hotel itself was beautiful, inside and out. We stayed in a large room, which was stunning and had everything we could possibly need. The bathroom was lovely too. We ate in the hotel restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Both meals were exquisite, the food was beautifully cooked, and looked great, and was extremely tasty. Being our anniversary, the team looked after us with some complimentary drinks and desert, was a very sweet touch! Will 100% be coming back!!!!
Fantastic food and faultless service - thank you for looking after our large party so well, what a memorable evening.
We had an amazing time and really enjoyed how dog friendly the pub was. The staff were superb and made us feel very welcome. Room was cosy but could do with a few cosmetic fixes. Also suggest including a bathrobe for that extra special touch. All in all a fantastic pub with staff who gave us some great personal touches that made our weekend.
Atmosphere in main room better than conservatory, service a little slow at times but not remiss. Could do with focusing on some little touches to align service with the aura and offering - strange no one took our coats in such a luxurious setting - had to bung it behind my chair!
We thought the hotel was beautiful and a wonderful atmosphere. Reservations were fantastic and very helpful. We were celebrating my husbands 40th with friends. The staff were very slow to take initial drinks. Our meal was poor. The scallop starter had tiny scallops and no flavour, the steaks were mainly rubbery fat which we complained about at the time and the chicken dish something I would expect at a scampi and chips pub. Tough and tasteless. No staff seemed to acknowledge our complaint about the steaks and a weak offering of would you like a different dish after the steaks had been eaten?! I would at least expected a dessert or the steaks deducted from our bill. Overall, we enjoyed the ambience but felt the food was very overpriced and average. Though the desserts were delicious!!
All over service was really lovely, however felt a little rushed between drink and dinner. My wife and I were enjoying a very nice G&T in the very comfortable bar. Our food order was taken, five minutes later we were asked would we like to go to the table. I asked for a little more time and asked for the wine list. I was given the wine list and we were asked to go to our table again before a wine order was taken. Everything else was very good.
The first visit to your venue was very impressive. I made a reservation. The waiter told us about the specials for the day. 1 guest ordered the John Dory fish special - the fish had no flavor, Guest 2 and 3 had the lamb, not impressed with the presentation or the taste. When you charge the $ amounts for meals, they need to reflect that in the taste. I live in southern Ontario, Canada and there are many wineries, restaurants who compete with each other. Please be aware of what you serve and the prices you charge because they do not reflect each other.
lovely conservatory dining room. Took about 20 minutes to get a drink. Soup was cold. octopus starter tiny with no dressing. My husband said he was disappointed with his starter and the waiter just laughed. Lobster not cooked! Waitress said no charge for the lobster. When the bill arrived the lobster was still on it! This was then removed but service charge added! Terrible. Not a good experience - pity as lovely surroundings
Joe the waiter was extremely attentive and made me feel like I was a highly valued customer. Even the chef ( Jordan ) came from behind the scenes to ask how I enjoyed the Monk fish special. I love spending time at the Rectory, it's a real home from home experience !
Great, really friendly staff, good price and very nice
Maybe a little background music just to take the edge of silence away.
Food great as always and service good but hard wood floors, background music, seat next to the waiters workstation and noisy team not great for Sunday lunch with parents, one of whom wears a hearing aid. Note to self, remember to ask for a quieter position if feasible next time.
A fabulous stay at The Rectory - delightful staff, superb food, excellent value. Highly recommended.
Food was delicious but little atmosphere at Sunday lunch. That is understandable as you had a large private party at the same time in the next room/area. Service was a little suspect but it will not deter us returning to enjoy the delicious cuisine
Great selection of gin although our main feedback was great service and friendly staff. We did have a slight wait for side dishes once mains were placed on table which rain to several minutes. Thanks for a wonderful birthday meal
signage outside seemed absent. Welcome a bit sloppy, no one took coats but after that very good
Delicious food and very enjoyable evening meal. We were well looked after by all the staff and would love to come back again. Make sure you try the doughnut pudding... Seriously good!
Fine food and surroundings with friendly attentive staff.
An excellent evening! Amazing food, incredible service. Absolutely 5 star
The great chef helps but the whole team pulled together to make for a special evening.
Since you have asked us to comment, we were extremely disappointed by our experience with you. It was a cold, dark and windy night and we could find no decent signage to guide us to your door. Even the door itself was not clear for first-timers like ourselves. It was like entering Bleak House and the greeting was, "Hiya, you OK?" Not "Good evening" or any other suitable pleasantries. We were taken to the conservatory, where we were seated on either side of a very large table that made conversation difficult without involving the whole room. A very, very young female person brought us the menus and greeted us in much the same way as the person in the bleak entrance hall. The menu is very disappointing, to say the least, but we ordered a chateaubriand, which arrived draped in a blanket of watercress. We also ordered a side of fries and were rewarded with two, not one (we paid for both). The heated plates were placed on the table a good five minutes before the steak arrived and so were just about cold anyway before we even started. As a beverage, we ordered large (not on the menu) glasses of the Quando Sauvignon Blanc, for which we were shocked to be charged the best part of £12 each! We can buy this wine for around £8 a bottle, so the mark-up is ridiculous... All in all, we decided not to order a dessert (we weren't offered coffee) and slunk away to lick our wounds after being charged £91+ for what was basically steak, chips and a glass of wine!! Just as an aside, the table next to us asked for some tomato sauce and your staff plonked a bottle of Heinz ketchup on the table - where are your standards? No one asked about our meal at any stage. There was a man in a check shirt bobbing about the place, but we weren't sure if he was in charge or just assisting. All in all, a not-to-be-repeated experience for us. And with your fresh refurbishment, we had so been looking forward to dining with you as we are locals and were hoping to find a fine-dining venue. Ah well...
The Rectory is most certainly worth visiting, very good menu with excellent food and service all complimented with superb surroundings and decor that made a lovely atmosphere. Ian
1.From the arrival at reception staff were welcoming, friendly and obliging. 2. Given poor mobile network coverage, a landline telephone in the room would be highly reccommended. 3.on chilly evenings dinner in dining room would be preferable to the glasshouse. 4.Room would benefit from more comfortable chair. In summary a most enjoyable visit in delightful surroundings.
Loved the newly refurbished Rectory!! Only marked down 1 point on atmosphere as was quiet but it was a Sunday night and everywhere is quiet then. Everything else was excellent. Will definitely come back on a Friday or Saturday.
