Great food & knowledgable, friendly staff. High recommend and will certainly return next time I’m in oxford.
great stuff, keep up the good work!
One of the best steaks I’ve had, the service was excellent, these guys really care about food, not cheap but you get what you pay for, I would highly recommended this place!!
The chateaubriand had a braised texture and taste, was dry around the edges, wasn't as juicy and as tasty as others I've had, and the peppercorn sauce was runny. Paid over £100 for 2 drinks each and 500g to share, disappointed. Great staff.
We were a party of six out for a good evening. The staff recognised that and their good humoured service ensured that we had a great time. Talked us through the complexities of the steak options on offer and made sure we all got cuts and finishes that suited us. We liked the gastropub (rather than pure restaurant) atmosphere, and the beer was well kept. Compared to its sister-establishment, The Punter, it seemed a bit pricey, even for the different kind of menu, our only (slight) reservation.
Splendid lunch. Walter was great. But we were the only ones in your 'Smoke Room' on a Weds lunchtime. Good job my wife and I get on. You also better monitoring of your Twitter feed. Best Andrew
Really great evening - food fabulous - can't believe we haven't heard of you before. Will definitely be back and highly recommended for any steak lovers!
The quality of the steak and the way it was cooked made the bill perfectly "do-able" We paid £40 pp for a delicious chateaubriand steak, great chips, green salad, coffee and tip the bill was fully was justified. I have paid less (and more) for poorer meals, I will be back, I can't stop telling my husband about the find, down an inconspicuous residential street in east Oxford!
This was the first time we had been at The Porterhouse and we were blown away. The service was spot on, cocktails extremely tasty and the fillet steak was beautiful! You definitely pay for what you get and I would have no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone looking for the perfect steakhouse.
Best steak ever!
Nice friendly pub restaurant with a great selection of high quality steaks. Only thing was they had sold out of key cuts before we ordered, and we had an 8pm table, so could maybe get a better supply for a Saturday night’s service. Well informed friendly staff.
Encouraged by Giles Coren’s review and liking steaks, four of us tried for the first time. Two of us had the Bone Marrow stater which were good. I had the potted Shrimp which was okay but disappointing. Three had Sirloin and one fillet. All were cooked as requested and were fine. I felt the Sirloins could have thicker rather than long and thin. The Tomatoes we’re very small cut in half. No complaints about the frites. A Portabello mushroom would have been nice. None of us were tempted by the puds. So all in all not a bad meal but given the reviews and the price, a little disappointing. At all times the service was excellent and worth the service charge.
Had an amazing steak here on Monday. I know its only steak but this was good, really good. Not the cheapest but cost-quality is correct. So if you fancy a treat or someone else is paying you should try it. p.s. Sauce Bernaise every time!
Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable - you can tell they love what they do and are passionate about it. They've clearly eaten what they serve and know their menu. Staff are attentive without being unnecessarily intrusive. Food is excellent and great quality. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, clean and fresh. A very enjoyable meal experience!
Table booked for 7.15pm, no 500g sharing steaks left this early in evening. Had 2 fillet steaks instead, cooked to perfection and delicious, but at £32 each they should be.
A quiet Wednesday lunchtime...I had to imagine that there would be a decent atmosphere in the evening, but thank you for a marvelous meal
Fabulous meal, helpful and friendly service. Best steak ever!
Great atmosphere even though a little cosy with thy neighbour! Situated in what feels like someone’s very sophisticated living room, the food was wonderful. However the steak is measured in g’s to ££’s and had my husband not been a chef and know who to work out the price until after we had ordered, £110, the bill would have f been a huge shock!!! Clearer pricing would be great but only thing I can fault. Would go back and would recommend!
We had a great meal on Friday night for my husbands 50th birthday, food was very tasty and the service from our waiter Kyle was great, he was knowledgeable about the different cuts of meat, treated my husband to a complimentary drink for his birthday and also gave us some great ideas for things to visit whilst visiting Oxford. Thank you for a great night, we would certainly recommend. Thanks Mel
A really good meal with a wide variety of steaks to choose from - probably one of the best steaks we've had - but its not a cheap night out.
One of the nicest steaks ive eating. A very chilled out vibe which could maybe do with just a little background music to add to the ambiance!
Awesome food and great service. Would come again!
Excellent brunch and good, friendly service. Good value. Great location (easy walk to station) for our purposes.
